1940 Mercury coupe
Nitro Neil replied to blazefox's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jimmy Flintstone makes the body for the Matranga 1940 Merc custom, but no one makes a stock body and no one ever made one as a kit. There was an old 1940 Merc plastic toy, but they are impossible to find. There are some of the Jimmy Flintstone bodies on eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-25-1940-Matranga-Mercury-coupe-resin-cast-body-only-MINT-NEW-with-grille-/290684073276?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43ae1ef53c -

No problem, back then I was one of those all day long, even when I was sleeping.

Cool. Just checking - being a model car geek isn't a crime, right? Don't want to get into any trouble while I'm there. And I remember that color scheme on those Braintree cruisers. I wasn't such a fan. They gave me heart palpitations every time I saw them. One more question - I once had a Mass. State Trooper tell me once that he "didn't have anything on you, other than you are a f-ing ding-dong". Tell me, the statute of limitations for being a "f-ing ding-dong" should be over, right?

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
Nitro Neil replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My user name comes from the fact that I used to be the track photographer at both New England Dragway and Lebanon Valley Dragway back in the 1990's. I used to like to stand in the starters box and shoot when the nitro cars ran (I have a funny story about the time I did that when the jet cars were running one night too. I lost my ponytail on that deal), so the racers started calling me Nitro Neil. There is also a real racer named Nitro Neil - I ain't him. My avatar is a model of a AA/Fuel Altered I built a long time ago that I still think is the best thing I have ever built. -
I ordered four sheets on 2/2, got them on Thursday 2/16 - two weeks. Still not bad for a small business that is closing shop.

Dave, That's the way plane modelers have to build ALL of their models. If you know any plane builders in your area, hit them up for some tips. They have a whole set of tools and masking materials that they use. I have built some racing plane models and the skills I learned in painting those gave me a whole new level of confidence when it comes to masking and painting.

Manuel, this is one of the best FE dragsters I have ever seen. Perfect details for that low-buck feel that you were going for. I spent nearly a decade as the track photographer at two different drag strips and this reminds my very much of more than one of those low budget racers that run at tracks every week. No dzus fasteners, no billet parts, no braided hoses, built from whatever parts they have lying around, and with more than a little duct tape thrown in for good measure. Simply beautiful. And I love your screen name too. That one of my favorite songs of all time.

Rick, No one else mentioned it so I will - a theft like that is also something you can claim as a loss on your taxes for the year in which the theft occurred. 150 kits, even at the low end of $10 per kit is $1500 you can claim, and double that is probably more like it. You may also have a valid insurance claim if you have renters insurance. Both of these things will require a police report.

What is truly monstrous is that AMT ruined a great kit to make this abortion. I refuse to buy this kit. I think that Round2 could have spent their money better to reissue something else, maybe the 32 Chevy roadster.

Unfortunate translation
Nitro Neil replied to Repstock's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's good news about the new Fujimi kits. I love to have lots of digestive organs in all of my dioramas. And there are times when my digestive organs could use a fire extinguisher.... -

Nice score Tye. I think I saw this one on eBay myself. Even in this shape it was a little too expensive for my current budget. I'll be watching how this turns out.

'68 Camaro Super Gas/Comp Roadster
Nitro Neil replied to Mister Twister's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Don't tell all my vintage drag racing friends, but I like this a lot. I like Super Gas as a class too. Very nice job on this one Darryl. -
Vox had George Barris build that to show off their guitars and amps. It had a working keyboard and amps in the back built into the car. Vintage Guitar did a story on that car a few years ago. I'll bet while Jimmy Bryant was posing for that picture he was thinking, "The junk I have to put up with just to get some free guitars and amps". http://www.thevoxmobile.com/

Ken, I have a question... Where did you get the 1/25th scale hula girl for the dash?

I got a phone number that had belonged to a woman from Poland who had move to New Zealand and conned a hospital into believing that she was a licensed psychiatrist. Then she released a psycho who promptly went home and decapitated his girlfriend. The "doctor" then changed her name and moved to my town here in the US and proceeded to con a local hospital into letting her work there. After about a year she was busted for shoplifting at a local JC Penney and the whole web of lies started to unravel. Of course she owed lots of people money and they all called my number looking for her. It's been ten years and I STILL get calls from her bill collectors. And of course they don't believe me when I tell them that she was deported back to Poland. And oh yeah, did I mention that "she" was actually a "he"? A truly bizarre story - more here http://www.nzherald....objectid=584840

Ken, can you build me one of those? I need to stack my wooden coffee stirrers nice and neat like that. Seriously though, you need professional help. Arcade gonna be done for the NNL?

I want paper magazines. Period. Digital is nice as a back up, but paper is still the only medium that you can take anywhere.
