The LIARS Club model show that was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 in Freeport, NY (on Long Island) has been cancelled due to damage to the hall from Hurricane Sandy. The club members are OK, but the hall sustained more damage than can be repaired in a week.

What Do You Think was the Worst Car Made?
Nitro Neil replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Fiat Uno. As an auto mechanic I saw many poorly made and badly designed cars, but this piece of junk stole the show. -
Ron, Nice collection. I built the '49 Plymouth from a diecast. Took a lot of work.

RockAuto is great. I buy most of my parts for all of my cars through them. And we own four cars, everything from a 2007 Mazda to a 1968 Impala. Shipping is incredibly fast, sometimes the parts arrive next day, and it's never more than 3 days. The selection is almost too good. The prices are better than anywhere else, bar none. The only thing to watch out for is the multiple shipping locations. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a slightly higher priced item from them just so you can get everything shipped from one place.

Here are some of my drag build from over the years.

I think this kit was (and still is) best aimed at younger modelers, and it's a great kit to give to a kid that has shown some interest in building models. And yes, I have an unbuilt earlier reissue on my shelf. It sits right next to a reissue of the "S'cool Bus".

Even though it's totally wrong as an "accurate" gasser (and what is class is D/MS anyway?), it's a still a fun kit to build and it looks cool when completed. Still one of my faves from my early days of model building. And the box art is killer.

How long should I wait
Nitro Neil replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Make a claim and you will get all your money back, shipping too. That's why I never buy from anyone with less that 99 percent positive feedback or better. -
how often do you pay full price for kits?
Nitro Neil replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never. I only buy kits at shows from discounting vendors. -
Your opinion wanted!
Nitro Neil replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I just hit the "View New Content" and I get to see all the new content. I don't even use the categories. -
Sorry Harry, you would never get me into a car in which the seats aren't bolted to the floor.

Crazed over feedback
Nitro Neil replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly my point Mike. The buyer is not done as soon as they pay the money. There are still plenty of things that the buyer can do to mess with the seller. If you aren't a regular seller, you can't understand how frustrating it is to do the best you possibly can and still have a buyer jerk you around, or how easy it is for one buyer to ruin a perfectly good seller's business. -
Airbrushing Nail Polish - buildup problem
Nitro Neil replied to rhs856's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, turn the gun down. I spray at 15 psi, but there are some variables to consider. Thicker paint needs more air pressure Siphon feed needs more air pressure that gravity feed. You may also have the wrong size needle/orifice for the paint you are using. With a 1:1 mix of paint like that I would turn the gun down to 15-20 psi with the gun halfway open. Try spraying from different distances to the piece too. You have be too close or too far away. And also remember, with an airbrush lots of light coats works better than fewer thick coats. It took me a while get comfortable with my airbrush, but now that I am, I wouldn't think of going back to rattle cans. -
Crazed over feedback
Nitro Neil replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As both a buyer and a seller I can see it from both sides. eBays new feedback policy leaves sellers without any way to give negative feedback, all sellers can do is give no feedback. Paying for an item is only the first part of the transaction for the buyer. The buyer can cause a lot of problems after the sale by claiming damage and wanting a refund, claiming non-receipt, and giving negative feedback. A lot of sellers, me included, often wait until the seller has given their feedback. Also with the new feedback policies, even a small amount of negative or less than 100% positive feedback in any area can cause eBay and Paypal to make live difficult for a seller. It's not bad when you are like me and you only sell stuff once in a while, but if you are selling hundreds of items monthly, it's easy to get one seller who leaves less than glowing feedback and screws up your whole business. The new feedback is simply not fair to sellers and is very skewed in favor of the buyers. I know in the past, some sellers used the feedback system as retaliation against buyers who weren't happy, but eBay went way to far the other way in an effort to protect buyers. Sellers need some protection against unscrupulous buyers too. Not giving feedback to a buyer until they have giving feedback may not be a great system, but it is all that sellers have. -
Cuz this is America, and I can build whatever I want. I have never understood the phrase "serious modeler". It's a hobby, it's not supposed to be serious. Let's face it, we are all grown men playing with plastic toys. How can I take that seriously? I for one can't stand building factory stock models. They bore the hell out of me.

choosing a sand-able putty?
Nitro Neil replied to Rusty Sierra's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The best putty I have found is the PROFESSIONAL Glazing and Spot Putty made by Bondo, part number 801. It is a two part putty and it comes in a tube. This is not the same as their Glazing and Spot Putty that doesn't say Professional. It is also much better than just plain old Bondo that comes in the can. It is lighter and sands easier than plain Bondo, and the edges feather very well for a nice smooth transition. It's the only stuff I use now. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Marine/Home/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LECIE20S4K7000000_nid=VKFD18548CgsS38K155C5RglRGQ6J96C9Sbl -
Nice job on this one Curt.

1/25 to 1:1 conversion question
Nitro Neil replied to noname's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And having a large Woodie is a problem why? -
Rick, The IPMS is not intentionally geared towards military modelers on purpose, but the reality is the most of it's membership is military modelers, and most of it's chapter clubs tend to be more focused on military modeling. It really has to do with the fact that the IPMS came into existence before more model car builders were old enough to join club (in the early 1960's), and the adult modelers at that time were mostly interested in military subjects. The IPMS as an orginization doesn't have anything against car modelers per se, but many of us have found that our experiences with IPMS clubs and shows is spotty at best. Yes there are clubs that welcome car modelers - and there are some that don't. As for joining an newly forming IMPS chapter, I say go for it. You may find that most of the other new members are into cars too. At the very least, as a founding member, you will have a big say in the direction that the club takes. And I promise you will learn a lot of new modeling skills for military modelers. By the way, the club I founded, MassCar Model Club, is an IMPS chapter, mostly because the IPMS has a nice insurance policy that covers their chapter clubs when they host a show. And as the name implies, MassCar is a model car club. We even won the National IPMS Chapter of the Year award back in 1993.

Engine compartment decals/labels?
Nitro Neil replied to shucky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree, there is a definite need for someone to make a sheet of stuff to go on stock vehicles - oil filter labels, numbers for fan belts, fan shroud stuff, battery labels, oil change stickers, inspection stickers, firewall tags, etc. -
Got my attention with this one Curt, should be very cool.
