  1. I can't speak for others but in my case I would say it was less about geographic location and more about the people who influenced me. My dad was an auto-body man by trade and he restored or hot-rodded cars as a hobby in his personal time. He owned old 40s era coupes and trucks, Tri-five chevys, a Firebird, GTO, Chevelle SS, even an old '49 Willys Jeepster. As a kid I also liked hanging out at the body shop with him on eve's and weekends when he and the shop owner would work on custom vettes and assorted hot rods for other customers. When I was old enough to read I stumbled upon my dad's Hot Rod magazine stash and discovered Barris, Watson and Jeffries, among others. All of these people have influenced my choice of subjects and building style. So if by 'geography' you mean to include the people who lived near me, then yes, I suppose there's some connection. I'm just saying that had these people or others with similar characteristics and interests existed in some other part of the world, I suspect my subject choices and building style would be no different today than they are. Interesting question, though.
  2. Love it!!!! Anybody catch the article about the actress who played the 'Little ol' Lady' in the Southern California Dodge ads? Also appeared on the Jan & Dean album cover that featured the song 'Little Old Lady from Pasadena'.
  3. I'd tell you to 'hang in there', but clearly you're a fighter all the way. The Chevy's sweet and the fact that you continue to invest time and money in it is all the convincing I need to know that you're gonna be right back in the mix sooner rather than later. Take care, Man!! :)
  4. Titled as '40 Dodge, but in all honesty the only '40 Dodge components are the cab and box. Hood, front fenders, grille, headlights, are all '39 Plymouth. 350/350 Chev combo, 10-bolt posi, front disc, rear drum power brakes, tilt wheel, power steering, 65 Mustang radiator, Postal Jeep gas tank, Custom steelies with center caps and trim rings, Auto Meter gauges 46 Ford frame with '75 Camaro front clip.

  6. Very cool!!! Blower and all!!
  7. I haven't tried to use them for anything else, but couldn't you just grind off the center ring, thus allowing them to seat properly within any equal inside diameter tire?
  8. One thing they WON'T be able to recreate is the five, (yes 5) hubcaps that fly off the Charger during the original chase scenes.
  9. I concur with all comments above, your paint work on this is first-rate and the color choices could not have been better. Mr. Watson would approve!!
  10. Somewhat unrelated, but I just rented the entire first season of 'Crime Story', starring Dennis Farina. Awesome late-fifties - early sixties cars throughout. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
  11. John, you have to be the most prolific builder I have ever seen. While words fail to adequately express my admiration for your talent, skill and passion, I did want to thank you for unselfishly sharing your secrets with us. I learn something new from every WIP you share on this forum. I'll be following this one as well, but wanted you to know that by sharing these, you're performing a great service to all of us and I for one can't thank you enough.
  12. Nicely done! Now get to bed so you can enjoy the show tomorrow!
  13. "Vrooom" from a grandchild is music to any grandfather's ears! Thanks for the smile!
  14. In my opinion, black or white (cream) provide the best contrast, however, as Harry's link points out, there are a couple other factory options to choose from. Now, if you're able to extricate yourself from having to do 'factory colors only', Well, the palette opens up considerably. You could try all sorts of options, below is a quick illustration of just a couple of ideas using two colors and adding a pattern, (either with decal or masking the area and attempting some freehand patterns using a toothpick, feather, pen & ink, spatter pain with a stiff bristle brush, ....you get the idea. Maybe add some similar color accents to the wheels or exterior. Anyhow, good luck, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
  15. Yes, ordered some, took about 2 weeks for delivery. Good news is that they don't debit your card until they fulfill the order. More companies should be this customer-oriented, I will miss them immensely!
  16. Without benefit if having sampled the above, but having just built the Monogram '67 Stingray Coupe, I can recommend it highly.
  17. Nice job, Danny. Color choice, clean paint and decal work, it all works very well.
  18. Super job on the engine detailing!! Unusual subject done to a high degree, love it!!!
  19. Found this reference shot which indicates it's actually routed to the inside rear of the right cylinder head:
  20. I'm afraid I don't agree with the O.P. on this one. I love seeing new builds for sure, but I also enjoy revisiting many of the older builds as well. There's one builder I know of who's returned year after year for over 10 years with many of the same builds and I 'm glad that he does. His older builds are no less inspiring to me this year than they were the first time I saw them. A good build is a good build. Same is true in the 1:1 world, love the new stuff but have no problem with someone returning with something I may have already seen - sometimes I find details I may have missed the first go-round. I say 'live and let live', at one point or another we all get our moment in the sun, maybe not by winning a contest, but by the kind comment another participant or attendee offers when viewing one of our builds. Seeing a model for the fifth or sixth year in a row doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the 'new' builds you may have brought. Don't let the competition aspect of the hobby take precedence over the sharing of ideas that contests and NNLs provide.
  21. Oh, I thought of one part I do dislike: LOWER RADIATOR HOSES,.....GGGrrrrrrrrr,....frustrating!
  22. I can't say that I dislike any of the building process, but I do find that I debate with myself while detailing the undercarriage as to 'why I spend so much time detailing something that few if any will ever see. The conclusion I always come to is that I'll know it's been done right,... that and my dad's voice in my head, "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right."
  23. This build has inspired me. Cant tell you how many goofy diecasts I've been given over the years. Many I give to kids who come to the house, but I still have a few in a box somewhere, and now I'm thinking, "wait a minute! There just might be some 'gold' in that there box."
