What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
High octane replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I believe that my tinnitus came from listening to LOUD engines at both the drag strips and at drag boat races as well. Then throw in 35+ years of working construction, and of course music loud enough to "feel." Other than the construction work, it was fun, but now I'm paying for it. -
Lookin' good Joel, real good.

Enjoy as I already have tinnitus and sorry I didn't wear ear protection when I was younger. And yes the music I enjoyed was loud enough to "feel it" also. -
I usually shoot two mist coats of clear and then a "wet" coat with 20 minute intervals between coats. I once tried to get away with just painting one "wet" coat of clear and was I sorry. I don't remember which car it was or how I fixed it as I'm not a big fan of the purple pond. If I can fix a paint job rather than soaking it and starting over, I will.

"Not another General Lee?! **11/24/15 ENOS STRATE AUTOGRAPH**
High octane replied to Rdkingjay's topic in Model Cars
Real nice build on that General Jay, and I know that a lot of people are happy to have their models, 1/18th models, and 1:1 cars autographed by celebrities, I'm just not one of them. I spend hours building a model and rather not have anyone scribble their name all over my work, but that's just me. To each their own. -
Well I'm gonna hafta buy a set of tires for my daughter's car either next month or early next year, groan. What do I look like, "Daddy Warbucks?"

Two Tone Paint /Masking
High octane replied to Olderisbetter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Steven, I use the old tan colored masking tape from 3-M like we had back-in-the- day and it works just fine. -
Nice Lincoln Ron, I have one of those kits in mint condition, and hopefully I'll get around to building it some day.

I bought new tires today for my daily driver, otherwise I wouldn't have made it through the winter with the old ones. I'm hoping to sell the vehicle in the spring, but I needed tires before that.

When you're older your blood gets thinner and you'll be needin' a heavier jacket my friend. -
Darn, I had that kit and sold it a long time ago as I'm continually trying to "thin out the herd."

Mock up the engine, chassis & body together, then measure from the rear of the hood opening to the back of the carbs. Mark this measurement on the hood on which you already have a centerline drawn on. Then measure how long a space you'll need for the two carbs and mark it on the hood from your first measurement (from the back of the hood forward). Now measure the width of the carbs and mark this on the hood in the space between your two previous marks and outward equally from your centerline that runs the length of your hood. Remember that you would divide the width of the carbs in half, and mark that distance on each side of the center line. You now should have a rectangle marked on your hood. Now add a 1/16th or 3/32nds of an inch all around for clearance and mark it on the outside of your rectangle. Now you should have two rectangles marked on your hood. You will cut your hood opening along the OUTER rectangle and you should be good, I hope! This method has worked for me several times.

What a great show this was with over 500 cars. I walked my butt off taking in all these cars in one place. I'm already looking forward to next years show as I attend this event every year. Here are a few photos.

Painting and building in an apartment?
High octane replied to shucky's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mike, I live in a small house and do most of my painting outside weather permitting. Yesterday I "cleared" my '57 Ford in one of the bathrooms. I drape and old flat sheet around two walls held by clothes pins, put some newspaper over the sheet which also lays over the vanity. I use the bath exhaust fan and do my painting, as I paint with "rattle cans." It works for me. -
Very nice build Tom, as the '66 is my "favorite" year Chevelle. Who knows when I'll get around to building my Lindberg kit?

Awhile back (Aug.?), Ace-Garageguy posted some posting hints using Photobucket and I let them sit for a few months. I later tried his method and it seems to work for me.
