  1. i imagine it beat up the operator pretty good, too
  2. also known as "shipfitter's disease". saturday morning you start off to varnish a rail, and by sunday night you're replacing the garboard plank!
  3. good promises. stick some washers behind the bolts (you asked!)
  4. yeah; yer sposed to sign yo post with a real name to roll here. i hate fake illinois moderators
  5. you could sift through this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=3300410
  6. and for the pro- retro crowd, there's even a publication specializing in Rust. http://www.theweatheringmagazine.com/
  7. "weathering" should not be a cover up for poor workmanship. 1:1 Rat Rods might be looked upon as a gateway vehicle. an outlet in design & execution by inexperience, yet driven by enthusiasm. 5% may go on to refine style & craftsmanship, others drift off into other endeavors. or just a chance to hang with friends, have a beer, and bolt or weld ###### together. we might be guilty of over analysing this!
  8. could i ask your source for this tubing? i assume you can get it in reasonable quantity rather than a googled medical supply 1,000 piece order. thanks
  9. this reminded me of a fantastic afternoon in 1960 when i watched, for what seemed like hours, as a guy one street over brush painted his daily driver. i only remember it was blue. blue oil based house paint (latex wasn't popular then). but it was great fun to be in on this and walk around the car as he went from hood to door to trunk and 'round the other side. it really was a simpler time . . . . s i g h . . . .
  10. anybody ever us something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-V-Products-Lenses-L-408-Headlight-Lens-Set-3-8-Clear-/390444830068?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item5ae8534d74 and is there a tutorial somewhere for building Guide headlights?
  11. how would the box know if the car had a motor or not?
  12. i cannot understand why anyone would like a poodle skirt. or Boydster. or be overweight. or wear sansibelt slacks. as a matter of fact, i cannot understand why anyone would be differnt than me.
  13. too bad they don't put in a horn somebody can hear from more than three feet away
  14. this. anybody go to a movie lately? heaven help you if you dared have soda & popcorn, too! 16 - 22 bucks for two hours of mindless drivell. 88 bucks for a kit, paints, & some etch or resin - 50 hours of fun and something to show for it both educationally ( you did research some part of the build - right?) and a tangible asset to the hobby shelf. it's an easy choice for me.
  15. share how the lawn chairs got built? thanks
  16. glad no one took over this thread
  17. "best" is highly subjective, but i don't think a kit would affordable if it had the 'best' parts. that's where the aftermarket companies come in first. but to build a model from assembled pieces would quadruple its cost. one or two per model still can make it stand out in the line-up.
  18. early years manifold w/ replica's strombergs & air scoops http://earlyyearsresin.webs.com/engineaccessories.htm http://public.fotki.com/crstan/replican-and-miniat/replicas-and-miniat/100-3058-jpg.html
  19. and will a little heat cause it to relax, or does it keep its memory of a cylinder?
  20. i like it and a great alternative to the wire & tube "J" bend hinge. and ideas on pre war cars? the kind with exposed hinges. thanks
  21. love the air dinger!
