  1. Hobby Lobby and Walmart chased most of the LHS's out of business long ago. When I traveled a lot, I used to stop at the local shops and see what different things they stocked. One by one, they went out and they all said that when one of those guys came in, they couldn't compete. We have one left here in Austin and I try to go by there and buy something whenever I can.
  2. I'm glad I found this post. Your MB looks great! I just bought one of these kits tonight on eBay and found this article while looking for ideas. Again, I love it!
  3. Has anyone heard if new stuff might be coming? Any rumors? I got sent to Hobby Lobby last night to get some poster board. While there, I passed by the model section and noticed they were pulling some kits off the shelf. The lady said they were getting ready for some new stuff, but she didn't know what it would be. That 40% coupon helps when I need more than one kit. I just buy it and then go out and come in and buy another.
  4. I remember years ago reading that the Rat Rod movement was a reaction against the slick and glossy, overdone Boyd style hot rods that was the only thing that Hot Rod magazine seemed to be pushing at the time. It also was a slap at the checkbook hotrodders who paid hundreds of thousands for a custom built car that was trailered everywhere.
  5. I'm actually a Ford fan in a family of Chevy freaks, but I've always associated Tony Stewart with Chevy. The only thing more weird would be if Dale Jr. decided to move over.
  6. I read today that Tony Stewart's Nascar team is switching to Fords for next season. They apparently plan to cut ties with Hendrick completely. Interesting. The Chey guys are having a cow on other forums...
  7. Looking good! I've been buying up the Tom Daniels kits I had as a child when I can find them. One of these days I'll recreate my youth! LOL
  8. Are you looking for an engine for a hot rod or for a factory stock? It could make a difference..
  9. After re-reading my initial post, I can now also add, "No matter how carefully you do your post, once you hit send, you'll find a misspelled word or a really weird formatting error that I didn't see before!"
  10. It would be nice to see a new tool developed with fastback and coupe bodies. But this is what we have. It's a 50 year old tool. It is what it is and that's all that it is. If you want better detail, I understand the later AMT 67 Mustang chassis will work under this body, though I've never tried it. If nothing else, it still builds up as a good looking shelf model!
  11. I have checked the forum before and just now found your project. Nice job! I can attest to the Fujimi kit being challenging. I'm working on a couple of outlaw Porsches since seeing Magnus Walker's cars. Currently have the Fujimi 911 in paint and a Revell snap kit Boxter, just for something different.
  12. There are some Murphy's Laws when it comes to model building. The most obvious involves the mutual attraction between carpeting and tiny parts. A corollary to that is that the more important the part is, the more likely you are to drop it. My personal ones ? 1. No matter how good the body looks in primer, once I spray the color coat, I will find a mold line that I missed. 2. If the final color coat turns out, the clear coat will cause any speck of dust or loose hair in a 10 mile radius to materialize and stick. 3. If the paint and the clear coat turn out well, I will decide I don't like the color after all. 4. The model that was available a month ago I didn't know wanted. Now that I want it, it is out of production and only available on eBay for a whole lot. Any others?
  13. I probably can, but they are pitted and all the stuff that comes with 50 years. I was going to order the replacement pieces and keep the originals. Plus those little fender ornaments were broken too now that I think of it.
  14. Maybe it's time to do a Cuban build. I've got a '51 Chevy that I stole the motor out of. I have a couple of generic 1/35 Army truck diesel engines that are close to a 1/25 diesel. Maybe some mix and match trim and ready to go.
  15. That is funny! I have a '65 Fairlane that I am restoring. All the chrome is worn off of the parts. I needed to order those and I've waited too long. I'll have to be quick and order when they catch up.
  16. First of all, thanks must go to Greg Wann. I came across a thread that said he was still making this kit and contacted him. He got back to me quickly and gave me the order info and a very reasonable $35 price. I mailed off my MO and it was in the mail a day later. He was very patient, even though he had to mail it twice because I forgot to give him the Apt. #! My pictures aren't great, but should give you an idea. These pictures are taken right out of the box. You get a well-cast body, hood and wheels and clear resin lenses. Looks like clean up will be minimal. Due to work, it will be a while before I can start on it, but I'm really glad to get it. Maybe it will even inspire me to work on my EllieMae F150 conversion, yet another project that I set aside. I also just found out that my local Pep Boys sell Pepper Gray in Dupli Color cans. Thanks again, Greg!
  17. Does Bob Zetterman have a contact here on the site? Does he do mail orders? I would love to see what he has.
  18. Okay, here's the plan! We all buy Lottery tickets tonight. Whoever wins will buy the business from them and keep it going. Are we all together? Good!
  19. If it is the small diameter axle and you can't find one in another kit, you can buy brass rod at any hobby store. Just take one of the wheels with you and try different sizes. Worked for me!
  20. This is great! I love the history behind old cars.
  21. I always use a coat of primer on every model. No matter how well I think I've done my bodywork I always seem to find a mold line or something that I just didn't see. I would rather catch it when it is in fast drying primer and easy to fix than when I put a color coat down.
  22. I wonder what happened to his build?
  23. I used to, until I realized I no longer was enjoying it. It was becoming more of a task than enjoyment. Now I build simple models.
  24. We are at Disneyworld. I found a couple build ideas even here. This one is a model in the Disney museum of the Dipmobile from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It is actually in 1/24th scale. I'm wondering what base kit might work. I'll have look into it when we get home
