  1. I remember the following "scare" tactics from back in 1987 : 1.) Mustang going to a front wheel drive platform 2.) Front-wheel-drive F-Series Well , the proposed wrong-wheel-drive "Mustang" became the Probe , a Mazda venture yawn fest . The alleged wrong-wheel-drive F-Series ? Never materialised . The V8 survived the Automotive Dark Ages Part 1 ( 1974 - 1979 model years ) , and it will continue to thrive ! As far as the (colloquial) term "Muscle Car" : a term-of-endearment that was bourne-out of the "Supercar" nomenclature (e.g. , mid-sized sedan / coupe / hardtop with a big V8) . The Mustang is a "Pony Car" ( same goes for Camaro , Cougar , Challenger , Barracuda , Firebird ) ; compact cars with fierce V8's were / are "Junior Supercars" ( Nova , Dart , '64-'69 Barracuda , Demon , Duster , etc. , etc. ). You can have your EcoBoost tomfoolery and other stringent C.A.F.E. standards excrement ...
  2. Very nice '5 ! Is that an odd-fire 225 Dauntless V6 under the bonnet ?
  3. In No Order of favour : 1.) 1971 Charger Super Bee ( 440 Six Pack ; column-mounted Torqueflite ; Super Performance Axle Package [4.10 Dana , power disc brakes , H.D. cooling] ; W11 Deluxe Wheel Covers ; backlite defogger ; power windows ; AM/FM stereo w/ cassette / recorder / microphone ; stripe-delete ; Ramcharger hood ; hood pins ; Stratovent; Houndstooth upholstery ; GY3 Citron Yella ) 2,) 1971 Swinger Special 340 (Canadian-only model ; "LL23H" v.i.n ; column-mount Torqueflite ; 3.55 gear ; disc brakes ; W11 wheel covers ; backlite defogger ; AM radio ; GB5 blue with base black interior ) 3.) 1972 Baldwin-Motion Chevelle Phase III 4.) 1969 Boss 429 5.) 1973 Super Duty Formula Firebird 6.) 1971 Motion 454 Vega 7.) 1973 Duster 340 ( base interior ; column-shift Torqueflite ; 3.55 gear ; AM/FM radio ; backlite defogger ; sunroof ; stripe-delete ; medium gold metallic with white vinyl top ) 8.) 1971 GMC Sprint SP-1 9.) 1974 Dodge Monaco "A38" ( 440 Magnum ; backlite defogger ; A/C ; right and left Unity spotlights ; medium green metallic ) 10.) 1976 Duster ( 360 ; 3.21 gear ; "Silver Duster" package ; AM/FM radio ; deluxe wheel covers )
  4. Definitely 8 3/4 ; the Dana 60 didn't appear in factory-built cars until the 1966 model year ( Hemi with 4 speed ; optional with Torqueflite Super Performance Axle Package ) , then in 1967 models (440 Magnum / Super Commando with 4 speed ; again optional with Torqueflite ). The only car to come with the Dana 60 as standard equipment was the 1969 1/2 440 Six Pack / 6 Bbl , Super Bee / Road Runner ; it had 4.10 gear ; Sure Grip (colloq. , "Posi-Traction" , which is a G.M. name ) was standard with the Dana 60 (3.54 gear [ 4-speed standard diff only] , 4.10 optional [Torqueflite or 4-speed] ). Many racers swapped-out the 8 3/4 for the Dana 60 ; not sure if this was acceptable in Stock classes for vehicles built prior to 1966...
  5. Every time I hear Neil Diamond's "Love on the Rocks " ( Jazz Singer soundtrack ) , I still "hear" the track-change !
  6. I'm sure that the following isn't a new idea ; how about offering two levels of detail for the same kit ? To wit ; a "regular" 1967 Camaro SS (e.g. , the one that's currently available) , and a "premium" version (i.e. , adhesive transfers -or- photoetch , and perhaps more / exclusive options) .
  7. When I was around 3 or 4 years old (1974) , I remember seeing what appeared to be a life-sized car ---in kit-form--- on the top shelf at the local department store . I was mesmerised ! I thought , I can build that and drive it around afterward ?!? My rationale was , If those are adults next to the car [ on the box art ] , then I can fit inside and drive it [because I'm smaller than they are] ! Revell's 1970's offerings were a trap ! I knew that the kit was impossible to build , but I'd hoped with each successive attempt ... !
  8. The Golden Wheels programme ran through '85 or '86 . When AMT / Ertl purchased MPC , two things happened : - Golden Wheels programme cancelled . The allocated space on the box top's side was repurposed with some Ertl-specific "letterbox" - The MPC nomenclature had an "ERTL" added to its banner I got a number of kit through the Golden Wheels programme ; to name a couple : - 1983 Toyota Supra - 1984 Corvette - Fall Guy GMC pickup - 1985 Camaro annual Thanks for the trip down memory lane (or , in my case , "Midlife Crisis Lane" )
  9. That's exactly what I do . For open sores : Neosporin [sp?] or Vaseline . Dry , itchy skin : Gold Bond Foot Cream . Why specifically "foot" cream ? It absorbs quicker , and there's no greasy coating left behind .
  10. Regarding the 1969 ZL1 Camaro : From what little I know about them , Fred Gibb couldn't sell them at the ridiculous price (as previously stated twice what a nicely-optioned SS would set you back !) , so he made a deal where GM in es "bought" them back , and shuffled them to other dealers ( I'm guessing that Nickey , Yenko , and perhaps , Dana , and Baldwin ) . These dealers added RS equipment and other embellishments to gussie 'em up . Money was lost on every one of them . Please correct my info . Maybe I'm confusing the ZL1 with the COPO L-72 427 Fred Gibb cars ? FWIW , I'm in the planning stages of building the Revell 1969 COPO Camaro to represent one of the few column-shift TH-400 models.
  11. Okay , then I wasn't seeing things then ! I appreciate their effort in moulding a backlite trim moulding ; those Flying Buttress C-pillars make 'foiling the backlite trim an exercise in frustration . I wonder how it looks en vivo ?
  12. I agree . The only time that clear red (or chromed , but to a lesser degree) is frustrating to me is when back-up lights are moulded as part of the lens ! Pearl White paint is fine , but there's no dimension to it !
  13. I've heard that song , and have watched the video . I used to have "Ball" on vinyl back in the 90's ; great album !
  14. That's the one . I feel that the musicianship is better on side 1 (though the percussion on the title track is tough to beat !). Early Heavy Metal is so interesting ; it's a great combo of psychedellic and macabre .
  15. I agree ; "Faux-Tro" box art would be excellent !
  16. Am I one of the handful of folks who actually enjoys ( make that prefers ) side 1 of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida ? To wit :
  17. The dreaded AMT "Snow Tyres" ... at least that's what I refer to them as .
  18. New / Recent Reissues : Moebius: - 1965 Satellite - 1969 F-100 - 1971 F-100 - 1960 Pontiac (both versions) Round2 : - 1970 "Heavy Chevy" Impala - 1953 F-100 (another one or two in addition to the one I already have) Old / O.O.P. : - MPC 1973 Duster Annual (unbuilt !) - MPC 1974 Duster Annual (unbuilt !)
  19. Either Tamiya or Gunze ... perhaps even Testors (at least in name ; a relabelled kit) . Circa 1986-1987 .
  20. Cool ! The 1968-only 4-speed-specific cam was a novel idea , no ?
  21. Richard Hell & The Voidoids' 1977 take on the Creedence Clearwater Revival original from 1967 ,"Walking on Water"
  22. 1968-1970 340 were all forged crank and high compression (10.5:1) ; 1971 was still forged crank ; heads were redesigned (emissions concession) and were shared with the then-new 360** (which itself was a 2 Bbl , C-Body-only engine until 1974) . Compression ratio dropped a marginal amount ( one-quarter point ) to 10.25:1 . 1972 340 had its compression dropped to 8.5:1 ; forged crank lasted until mid-late calendar year . Intake valve sized was pared back to 1.88" (from 2.02" , 1968-1971) . 1973 340 were all cast crank (booooo !!) and small valve . ** = some very early 360's were equipped with 2.02" intake valve heads .
  23. An arial photo of Temecula (I-15 / CA 71 , looking northwest) from 31-12-2014 : Temps have been in the mid-20's at daybreak ; high temps around 45-50 degrees at around 1550 HRS . There is still snow lingering on rooftops , in fields / yards , and vehicles ; typically on the north and east sides .
  24. Very nice touch ! Great job , guys !
