  1. Zymol wax does emit a pleasant odour ! And , it's easy to work with , too . Ethyl Racing Gas definitely has a sweet odour to it . Too bad that the majority of our younger bretheran hasn't been exposed to that sweet smell . Heck , even in its exhaust state ,it's still sweet ! Wood . While I'm not hip to the different kinds of woods (by smell at least ... except the unmistakable odour of Pine , and Eucalyptis [sp] ! ) , I do in general love the smell of old wood . My paternal grandfather's old work shop was full of different types of woods ( in addition to other surplus construction materials ) , which were leftovers from his construction business . He retired in 1958 ; by the time I was perusing his old work areas , that wood had been sitting for 15+ years . Old Chrysler Interiors have an unmistakable scent . That scent brings me back to my childhood ; back to my parents' family car , the 1969 Dart 'Custom' . 2-Cycle Exhaust . I can still see all of those killer , 2-Tone era Vespa scooters at school back in the mid-80's . Pre-2007 Carburetor and Brake Cleaner . The years just before that stupid Final Solutions Act which set unrealistic VOC standards . You folks whom reside outside of California are lucky that you can still purchase carburetor and brake cleaners that actully work ! Old AMT and MPC kits have a comforting odour to them . Organic Brake Pads / Friction Materials have a pleasant scent . I enjoy their smell while I'm working . Tamiya "Orange" and "Green" cements . Their odours take me back to my teens when I discovered them ; a great time in my life . American Spirit "Pow Wow Blend Tabacco . Even non-smokers like the smell of that cut of tabacco ! It has a nice Spearmint smell , even when it's burning .
  2. Here's some tight accoustic guitar work by one Mike Pinder of Moody Blues fame . Footage from the short-lived Colour Me Pop , 1968 :
  3. "Fuzz Duster" , is the name bestowed upon MPC's 1980 Volare annual . Its box art is a *bit* misleading ; it features a customised version , but there's no mention of the stock building option (!) It's moulded in black .
  4. Sounds like the Constant-Loss Lubrication of some Motorcycles ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total-loss_oiling_system It would appear that wikipedia has aligned constant-loss with total-loss . Certain motocycles (think : BSA) had a lubrication system which included a spoon which was used to refill the crankcase with oil , as those engines would leak like a sive . On the other hand , there are the two-stroke Detroit Diesels ; those are 'Total-Loss' by nature .
  5. By all accounts , the AAR and Trans Am (Challenger) hoods would buckle , bend , warp , etc. , due to lack of reinforcement on their perimetre . Similar to the bending of the hoods of the 1973-1979 GM pickups ; no reinforcement .
  6. James Williamson Damian O'Neill
  7. I've avoided building kits for certain subjective reasons : - MPC 1972 Duster annual . Not out of disinterest , but more so because I can't bring my-self to build it box stock ! That stupid under-sized engine (more like 1/26 or 1/27 scale !) really kills it . I'm going to postpone building this kit until I refine my weakened skills . It'll eventually get the AMT 1971 Duster bash ! - MPC 1978 Chevy Pickup annual . I've been dying to get my hands on an unbuilt copy for absolutely decades ! Well , I finally did get one (at a super great price , too !) , but again , I'm fearful of building it . Not because of the same reasons for which I'm avoiding the aforementioned Duster , but because I'm afraid of screwing it up ! The only non-box-stock item that I'm planning to use would be some resin copies of the AMT Chevy Van wheels (steel wheels with hubcaps) .
  8. Y'sure that you don't mean ".030" overbore ? (just ribbing you , Dyno )
  9. Robert Quine Syd Barrett Ron Asheton
  10. Exactly . The pulley and belts (and their routing) is different between engines with A/C and engines without A/C . I've bought a couple of the Street Machine version just for the non-A/C arrangement !
  11. 318-A = 1967 & earlier (also known as the Polysphere) "LA" = 'Lightened (weight) A-engine (distributor in rear) : - 273 (1964-1969) - 318 (1967-1991) - 340 (1968-1973) - 360 (1971-1994-ish) "B" = 1958-1978 Big Block (right-front distributor): - 350 (1958-1959) - 361 (1959-1966) - 383 (1960-1971) - 400 (1972-1978) "RB" = Raised-deck(height) B-engine (right-front distributor) - 413 (1959-ish through 1965) - 426W (1962-ish through 1965) - 440 (1966-1978) - Basis for the 426 Hemi (1964-1971)
  12. KISS stinks on ice !!
  13. I wonder if contemporary Parts Packs would "solve" the variations "issues" ? Let's say that Revell were to instead make available separate engines (340 and a "generic" 383/440) , separate transmissions (727 Torqueflite and 833 four speed) , separate differentials (really , just the 8.75" variant , as the coveted Dana 60 already exists in the present offerings) , manual drum brake master cylinder , etc. etc. Thoughts ?
  14. As a life-long resident of southern California , let me cast my vote for a Dana option ! As many times as I'd passed-by that address and its building , I never knew that it was once host to thee premiere Chevy dealership !
  15. I wonder if the tooling is still around for the Revell Slant Six (1/4 scale ?)
  16. I'd love to see an AAR variation as well , if for nothing else , an 83/4 differential that'll be a direct drop-in !
  17. Awakenings* is my favourite film with him as its main star . *A film from c.1990 whose topic is the L-Dopa experiments .
  18. I grew up in the western section of Whittier (Ca.) , just north of Whittier Bouldvard ; yes , that Whittier Boulevard ! As far back as I can remember , I witnessed many cool cars ; the Lowriders and the Classics , and every-thing in between . By the time I started high school ( 1985 ) , there were only a handful of really neat vehicles around on a daily basis (the Whittier Boulevard cruising scene having died-off by 1982) . The part of town where I lived mostly consisted of lower-middle-class families ; all of the upper-middle and well-heeled folks lived a stone's throw away in the hills , or a few miles to the east in East Whittier . As a result , the cars around the H.S. lot varied greatly ; any-thing from the 1965 Oldmobile F-85 with the base 225 Econ-o-Jet 225 Odd-Fire V6 , to some beat-up 70's VW Bugs , and finally , the super-rare 1986 IROC-Z with the 350 ( at that time , the 305 was the biggest V8 , as the coveted 350 wasn't emissions certified for the F-Body ) . Only around 9,000 were made , all automatics. Its owner was the premiere football player . I was friends with his younger brother . Apparently , my friend and his older brother got a sizeable inheritance ; the older brother was able to cash his in as he was 18 . Nice family , too . Totally deserved a nice ride . The teachers had some cool cars , from a 1969 Dart Western Sport Special ( 225 Slant , column-shift auto , white vinyl top ) to a 1970 Challenger coupe (fixed quarter glass and a plug for the window crank) . It was a 318 , 3-speed floor shift , in B7 blue . The coach and the shop teachers both had 1962 GMC pickups with the "odd" GMC V6 (305 cubes) . In the mid-80's , there were a few Mod kids around . The majority of them rode Vespas and Lambrettas , adorned in Quadraphenia livery ( 20 mirrors , chequered splash guards , RAF decals , etc. , etc.) . Their appearance had a huge influence on me personally ! I especially dug the "Softies" (longer-hair version of the classic Mod) , and was afraid of the "Hard" Mods (Traditional Skinheads ; not the racist skins , but rather "bald Mods"). Believe it or not , there wasn't much in the way of Muscle cars around . Maybe a few small block SS Nova and Buick GS models ; the real Muscle being owned by older guys (late 20's and older) and seldom seen by any-one. As for me ? I didn't get my license until I was 19 !
  19. Old MPC annual , Chuck ? Looks great !
  20. If I remember correctly , Landy's 1965 "WO51-come-A/FX" Coronet was sold off in c.1966 ; its new owner / sponsor was Studio Dodge (North Hollywood , 213-SUnset-80071) . So , those "two" A/FX Coronets didn't "exist" at the same time .
  21. Pink Floyd ( originally , The Pink Floyd Sound ) "stopped" being Pink Floyd as early as 1967 (with its guitarist / songwriter , Syd Barrett , now "relieved of his duties") , but maybe as late as 1979 (Roger Waters' defection) . Pink Floyd , c.1965 (no David Gilmour to be found !) Pink Floyd , c.1967 It's akin to comparing , ahem , Apples and Oranges ...
  22. You'd have to ask Boyd Coddington or George Washington about that one
  23. Wouldn't it be great if Round2 (et al.) were to market their snap kits toward the elementery schools ? Let's call it a "leave-your-electronic-leashes-OFF-for-an-hour-day" or some-thing to that effect . Firstly , if Round2 were to donate the kits to the schools , they'd certainly receive a tax write-off or tax credit , in addition to providing the most inexpensive and fully-effective Public Relations investment conceived ! Any-one else with me on this ?
  24. I would be all over that if the stock / two-wheel-drive parts were available ...
  25. The Sonics !!! An influential , inspirational , supersonic band that's underrated . Huge influence on the Garage bands and the Proto-Punk bands . How'd they sound ?
