  1. To qualify my answer: the transmission in the 1978 D-100/150 is incorrect anyhow. But for the sake of argument ; all of Chrysler's transmissions were aluminium cast by 1976, whether they were an automatic (904/727 & 998/999 Torqueflite/LoadFlite) or the 4-speed (direct-4th-gear or the 3-speed-with-overdriven-4th). If it's accuracy you seek, grab the 440/Torqueflite from the 1971 Charger R/T. Oil pan's different (truck/van application) as are exhaust manifolds (centre-dump). Or if you're keen on a small block/4-speed, use the 340/4-speed from the 1971 Duster 340. It could easily be "disguised" as a 360. not totally accurate, but definitely leaps & bounds better than the 'generic' Chrysler big block/manual trans in the kit.
  2. "Finish that Finnish thing, ketch ?", said Lenin on the train from Lake Geneva to the Finland Station
  3. The California Air Resources Board (ironic acronym of C.A.R.B.) is full of appointed overlords . Frankly, I'm surprised that this [BiPpiTy-Boop-BoP] state hasn't started testing motorcycles ! I was awestruck when the rolling-exemption deal was passed in 1998. At that time, smog testing was over with for 1973 & earlier vehicles. It was supposed to be a rolling exemption... ...it halted at the 1975 model year. A certain actor-turned-governor "Terminated" the rolling exemption deal, having acquiesced to Mary Nichols et al. at the precious, protected species known as C.A.R.B. All that should matter is tailpipe emissions (and evap emissions -- V.O.C.'s), but good old Cali takes it to the absurd (see my resolution to the invasive testing here, 2nd post). But, yeah, if that bodybuilder wouldn't have caved, 1993 & earlier models would now be exempt.
  4. With the recent reintroduction of good ole Vinyl records, I'm just waiting for the day when turntables are "new" features in cars ! ?
  5. Enquiry regarding the fuel injection setup in the 1963 Nova Wagon : is it based on a 1:1 offering ? Is it 'merely' a custom option ? I seem to recall that the original kit - which the car & trailer release is based upon - exhibited the F.I. option. Yes, I'm aware that F.I. was around in 1963 (with the Bendix Electro-Jector being the first electronic fuel injection unit, however flawed it was). so its presence as an option doesn't surprise me. Really, I'm just curious if the kit's representation was based on either an actual setup, or an experimental-on-paper-with-prototype-created setup. Thanks. * ADDENDUM * : I'm referring to the stock engine for the wagon itself, not the (sweet) Hemi engine.
  6. The precedence of Manufacturing Consent was set long ago, whenst the printed press received "support" from certain, um, "sponsors"
  7. Any chance that Round2 will pitch the 6-lug "custom" rims from the c.1988 iteration, @SteveG? They're nice for an F-Series - a bonus for the pickup fellers - but, yeah... I like the 2016 issue's newly-added custom rims, but it'd be nice to see something like the Cragar GT's from the 1968 Coronet or - my favourite - the Spyder rims from the 1/25 scale MPC Firebird (1979 model ?) and others.
  8. Sweet 'Bird ! Still looks great after 31 years ! Seeing the painted white wall tyres - great job on them - reminds me of how great it is to have pad printed 'walls these days. Keep up the great work !
  9. Super nice rendition of that classic ! Love the paint -- looks perfect ! Such a groundbreaking kit when it was new (35 years ago already !). Appears that it's held up well. Keep up the great work !
  10. Great job on that JS27R0B ! Excellent colour choices ; awesome black paint ! As a side note - irrespective of your outstanding work - I notice the kit's inclusion of the shifter for the 3-speed manual. It's been that way since day one ; not sure if the later issues (the Vanishing Point release) includes the correct Pistol Grip shifter. Keep up the great work !
  11. It's even more gnat's arse than that: - 1996- Present (OBD II The Search For Curley's Gold ) - 1995 & earlier ( OBD I : Revenge of the Jedi ) - 1976-c.1985 One of the biggest concerns in regard to smog testing here is, Are the replacement parts blessed by Mary Nichols & the Air Resources Board (C.A.R.B.). that rubbish is how my 2004 CVPI "failed" : its catalytic converters (there are FOUR due to the factory dual exhaust) had numbers which didn't meet the ("BlAh_bLaH_wokka-wokka-wokka") standards of this state. Mind you, the car passed functionally (which is all that should matter) , but failed visually because some arbitrary numbers didn't jive with their Draconian standards.
  12. I can't attest to the Scout 800; however, the Volare was reissued in its 1980 guise some +/- 10 years ago as the Fuzz Duster (the original 1980 annual kit). I'd imagine that the old AMT Valiant (1965 or 1966 was the last year) is doable, just like the 1968 GTO ( Craftsman Plus ) . At least one of Round2s representatives , @SteveG, posts frequently on this board. Likewise, @tim boyd shares updates (and reviews on his Fotoki [?] page.

  14. Many of the 1968 Hemi A-bodies were modified cosmetically to "update" them to "1969" models (at least one of the Darts was "updated" to a "1970" by Dick Landy, and campaigned in A/MP). Those were campaigned in M/P or other, non-stock classes. In the case of the Landy "1969" Dart, that car was campaigned in S/SE.
  15. I don't believe that I've ever seen a 1969 Barracuda - irrespective of its trim level - with that moulding. That's not to say that it didn't exist ; I've just never seen one so-equipped. Here's a link to Hamtramck Historical regarding changes & cancellations :
  16. That kit -and its stock relative- have the L79 which is the 327; a small block (i.e., could be any 'displacement' one wishes it to be). Insofar as a '427' (Mark IV, et al.), the engine from the 1968 El Camino is a good starting place; the 454 from the 1970 Monte Carlo is another (both big block/TH-400 versions). The Baldwin-Motion '70 Camaro has a really nice 454/4-speed.
  17. At the risk of a "compare & contrast" here; and, not to diminish your experiences, nor to embellish mine : that awful stuff happens too frequently here in California. It just so happens that the weather patterns are changing to El NiƱo , which ostensibly affects the jet stream , and therefore the lower atmosphere winds. Under 'normal' conditions, the smoke from that fire/those fires would travel in a southern direction. Matter of fact, this song by Love was inspired by the smoky skies of the Los Angeles area. Particularly the so-called Inversion Layer.
  18. "Oh, wouldn't it be nice to get on with me neighbours?", sings Steve Marriott in the opening line of Lazy Sunday Afternoon on Ogden's Nut Gone Flake
  19. Talk about nostalgia ! Haha ! I kinda miss the box art; exhibitions of parts and decals which the actual kit doesn't inhabit (RC2-era 1974 GTX, I'm looking at you !). I missed out on the Green Giant issue ; I'll have to pick up this psychedelic baby ! Will it include the 4-Way Windowpane this time ?
  20. I cured the 'your-car-won't-pass-Draco's-white-glove-smog-test' rubbish by registering my car in my friend's name in - ready for it - Arizona. Can't beat $78 for five years and no smog testing. But, yes, these newer cars -- everything ties in to the BCM or ECU or whatever. Including the charging system. The Mr. Wizard components need to "relearn" the system because a component was disrupted (e.g., new alternator). That's not exclusive to this [ "BlAh_bLaH_Yakkity_Sakkity"] state.
  21. Sweet Bippy is , in es., the same kit as the Green Giant from a coupla years ago, neh ? Other 'an decals and box art - and perhaps plastic colour - it's the same kit. IIRC, this kit has separate exhaust (okay, moulded-to the rear axle/springs assembly) vs. other kits of this era mit der moulded-on exhaust. I'm 53, and I watched Laugh-In in syndication in the 70's, then again in the 80's/early 90's. I doubt that the Khmer Youth would get the schtick of the 1967 original.
  22. The original annual kit from 1968 (1969 model year) included a 225 six and a Race Hemi, both back by a Torqueflite. The c.1989 reissue includes a 383 (generic MPC Chrysler B/RB engine) back by a 4-speed. Stock rims were now the (so-called) "Recall" rims (rare in 1:1); tyres were B.F. Goodrich; custom rims are typical 1980's (yuck). The c.2017 reissue (Retro Box Art) includes the crossram intake (originally for the Hemi, I'd imagine it'd fit the 383), Hurst Dual-Gate shifter & consolette, better tyres, reproduction 1969 decals, and 'new' TorqueThrust rims (same are in the '68 El Camino, and other kits. Nice rims.). This is the one to get. I seriously doubt that Round2 will "fix" the shortcomings (which date to its origins), be it this (pending) reissue, or any subsequent reissues. But, then again, nobody - myself included - believed for a New York Minute that the 1968 Coronet would ever see the light of day again...
  23. I was referring to the 1971-1973 style. I know that there were 1971 converts, but I couldn't remember if they made it past 1972 model year.
  24. "It happens each day/ you're away/ from here."
  25. Summed up my analysis of those two distinct styles -- the '71-'73 certainly does lend a better convertible basis. Were there any drop-top Mustangs after '72 ?
