Revell Charger Daytona - what happened?
niteowl7710 replied to Kmb0319's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
From talking to a couple of local hobby shop guys, Hobbico told them to resubmit their orders for the November kits (Honcho & Cutlass), and for some unspecified reasons they hadn't shipped from China yet. -
AMT Future Releases Interesting

"New tool" Catalina. Albeit that was new some 20 years ago at this point, but it's just another decal variation on that kit. -
My New Years Modeling Resolution
niteowl7710 replied to Renegade's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Plus Godwin's Law of Modeling states that regardless of the size of the work surface, you will actually work in a cluttered 1sq foot area directly in front of your chair. -
They'e been hauling those DS21s around since the Toy Fair back in February. The question is when are they actually going to release it. They've been pretty quiet on the plastic kit front this year other than the updated McLaren-Honda F1 car and the Citroën HY kits.

Kenworth Aerodyne has been spotted on shelves
niteowl7710 replied to DrKerry's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I don't specifically remember that, but if so they cancelled it, because the only 4 KWs currently in distribution are the K123 COE - which did just get reissued on a limited run, the Papa Drag Truck, the Papa Hauler, and the recent reissue of the W-925. -
Currently on deck for January.

My New Years Modeling Resolution
niteowl7710 replied to Renegade's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine is to get two done for the year. Couple of years back (well I think we do this thread every year) the resolution was to just get ONE built finally, and I've managed to somehow squeeze one out a year since then. Time to increase productivity by 100%. Also the easiest way to get that moving is to get some of these started projects (some of which are 75% or so completed), and bulldoze them across the finish line already. -
The differences between Tamiya and Fujimi(Subaru Impreza)
niteowl7710 replied to Kemszi's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A bit of an apples and oranges comparison. The Tamiya kit is a WRC race car so it has massively exaggrated fender flares, and a non stock rear bumper amongst other changes. As for the Fujimi side profile, for some reason they decided to mold those smoked plastic rain gutter guards onto the body. -
It's tnthobbies.com for anyone who's actually looking for the website, and most of what he does now as far as keeping things up to date is on FB. I'd personally rather not deal with Tom, as I e-mailed him an order when he did one of his sales in the past and he never responded and when I checked back the items were sold out and he was kinda snotty about it. MFH's direct price is actually $9 cheaper, but doesn't include shipping. If I get one, I'm probably going to go hunt down one of the CGM conversion limited edition kits that makes it into a Super GT car, as I really don't have any particular love for Le Mans. Neat race, but I don't build out those liveries.

The '94 Impala SS was (more or less) the leather wrapped civilian version of the 9C1 Caprice police car. Which back then was one of the fastest American vehicles on the road in terms of acceleration and top speed shy of the Corvette, Camaro & Firebird. Arguably the speed range the 9C1 had - and made Ford have to scramble and make the Crown Vic actually perform something resembling decent since the old square body Vics were bricks and would barely creep to 115MPH - was the beginning of the end of pursuit package pony cars like the SSP Mustang and BC4 Camaro. I believe the Impala had a lower speed limiter on it, but the 9C1 was good for 161 MPH allegedly. I had one up just shy of 150 (closed course conditions) and I still had plenty of pedal left, but the front end was so light it felt like it was gonna flip over backwards.

Belkits Opel Manta 400. Test Shots
niteowl7710 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Could be, but it's my understanding that Aoshima gets their supply from Belgium from Belkits after the entire boat makes it's journey from China. I tracked the boat when they shipped the Escorts and it didn't have any stops in Japan. Maybe there's some sort of offsetting trade deal with Domino distributing Aoshima in Europe. -
FWIW it's the same as any other Hasegawa 2000 GT, it just has a resin figure of a Japanese lady in 1960s style dress.

Belkits Opel Manta 400. Test Shots
niteowl7710 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
When pushed back to next year isn't a bad thing - since it's 3 weeks away. Japan just finally got distribution of the '15 & '16 Polo WRC kits via Aoshima on December 1st. I was in no rush to get them, so I went that route, especially since it was cheaper than importing them from Europe by nearly $10@ (BEFORE shipping) -
Yeah but their cheapest from MFH directly, and they're still in Pre-order phase.

I'm definitely considering it's little brother once the 1/24 version is available this month.

Round 2's Datsun 620 Pickup - Out of Box review

At least they aren't two part rubber (vinyl) tires. Those things can not be glued together by any known adhesive currently available on Earth. -
Cap's Hobby Hints
niteowl7710 replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ya know I was just wondering that too...what's gonna keep the glue from melting the straw and making an even bigger mess than whatever bulky glue applicator is being referenced. -
The pricing for them in Japan is 160Y per bottle, which works out to be $1.42. They're the the 10mL bottles, which is the same size as the X/XF mini acrylic bottles. Price in the U.S. is probably going to be around $3.49 a bottle. So if you buy them here, then yeah decanting would be cheaper in terms of volume of paint per container - taking aside the task of actually doing the decanting. Ordering 5 bottles of paint (for the same volume) and shipping them over puts the price right around what a single can of spray paint would cost at full MSRP.

Round 2's Datsun 620 Pickup - Out of Box review

Ahh geez an Entex...those molds MIGHT be over at Minicraft, as they have stuff like the 1/5 Mazda Rotary. I'd expect the second coming of Elvis first... -

You mean the Lindberg Nissan Hardbody P/U ? That was just reissued in an AMT box like two months ago... -
Round 2's Datsun 620 Pickup - Out of Box review
niteowl7710 replied to Faust's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
As was pointed out when Round2 announced this kit was coming back, the idea that it was forever wrecked was a badly informed rumor that a lot of us (myself included) were guilty of passing around. When the flip-nose body with blown engine was in fact a separate tool from the original annual kit. Proof of that is how little work was needed to "resurrect" this kit. Other than the tires - and addition of rubber stock tires - and retooling the Lil' Hustler's custom wheels, everything else is original to the 3 years this kit was released as an annual ('75-'77). I'd like to think the popularity of Hasegawa's Nissan Sunny (and corresponding C1 Models Hakosuka Transkit), as well as Revell reissuing their Datsun 4x4 made reissuing this kit a fairly easy decision. -
Round 2 December 2017 Product Spotlight
niteowl7710 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't believe the first gen S-10/Sonoma were ever reissued, even in an alternative version (eg the CHP Explorer Sport, TXDPS Camaro, and MISP Grand Cherokee). -
About time, in 26 days they have to tell me what they're making for 2018.
-
Never heard of them before, but the are clearly designed for slot car bodies - which makes the fit dubious at best - and there's a lot wrong with fonts and shapes and sizes of various objects on several of the sheets. They look like cheap ALPS decals being sold at a borderline rip off price. Studio27 released the Bilstein Nurburgring decals earlier this month. They also released the SAP Nurburgring livery (which is the winning car from 2016) yesterday.
