Lens. Before pixel resolution was even a blip on the radar, photo hardware was all about the lens quality. That's what you spent the money on and you put a cap on it to protect it. Lenses the size of a piece of confetti pulled out of a grubby pocket or purse to grab a snap to me doesn't represent a concerted effort to take good pictures. Nothing personal Rob, it's just the bain of my existence as a graphic artist being handed cell phone snaps from clients who then expect to see glossy, rich, studio quality images on their ads because it looked okay on their 2x3 phone screen. I think lens consideration is still valid in a digital world, even if it's nothing fancy.

Well done Matti.

Getting rid of tv programming tired of reality tv
Lunajammer replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
"...When television is bad, nothing is worse...what you will observe is a vast wasteland." - Former FCC Chairman Newton Minnow. Seinfeld: NBC Chief of Programming: "(If it's a show about nothing) then why would I watch it?" George: "Because it's on TV." -
I like it too.

A real beauty. Lovely color, great work.

What type of "Box Art" do you prefer?
Lunajammer replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely artwork on the cover. That said, I won't buy it if I can't see somewhere on the box what the model looks like. -
Sentimental favorite. F1 in my mind is always this car.

Thanks for the 'go juice' John. I hope I get another couple hours this week to move forward and put this to bed. I'm anxious to start the next one.

Amazing how well those wheels set it off. Very astute choice.

Scale model inaccuracies
Lunajammer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Reminds me of the old business axiom: "Fast • Good • Cheap, you can pick two." My guess they picked fast & cheap. -
I got the airbrush fired up and had a few evenings this week to eke out some production so my first effort went to the engine. I've been dying to see how this shapes up. Still have to determine if I want to embellish it more. The interior worked out okay but I'm pretty rusty on my detailing. Will need to touch it up a tad. I tested an oil based wash on the foot pad which turned out miserably. It won't be seen but now I know to abandon that technique. Some color on the body, letting it sit before buffing. Roof still needs paint and the dash to be detailed. Here's the drive arm with mesh added and painted. There'll be a little more detailing but not much.

Achieving Stardom so to speak.
Lunajammer replied to Mercman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Opened up the paper at lunch and saw your sparkling mug, luckily it wasn't a heavy lunch . I don't know how they latched onto you, but it couldn't have been a nicer article about one of areas best hobby representatives. Congrats, Junior. -
I've enjoyed success with detail cutting using the scissor from a Swiss Army Knife.

For as many people who condemn this kit, a lot of them seem to own it. This may be the reason why. It's just good enough for modelers to know it can be built up nicely with a little effort. This is the second one I've seen built well and is the best one I've seen. Love the engine detail. I know you applied yourself there too. Lovely work.

Any auctioneer will tell you that bidding generates interest. I'm one of the guys who sits quiet till the end, then throws in my max bid. If I didn't get it, then it was more than i would have been willing to pay. Other times I get it cheap. But true or not, I feel like I'm keeping my own price down by not generating attention getting action.

Gutsy! A bold project but you pulled it off. How can ya not love a concept custom?

Reminds me of the famous "buried Belvedere." Other than rusting it a lot more discriminately, as you've already noted, I'd say your technique is fabulous.

Who watched the TV special on the Beatles...?
Lunajammer replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Skip, Rain, Go. I saw them several years ago and I can be a tad critical as are other Beatles fans who consider their music a bit sacred, but I was not disappointed. I see there's more than one touring cast now but the original was clearly deeply concerned with authenticity. -
Don't change it Eric, I love it! Put Halibrands on it and run with it. Make it an awesome, diesel punk, Cannonball retro-future racer.

Can anybody explain Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hanks sitting elbow to elbow with the honorees and getting his face on lots of cutaways? I assumed, maybe he was producing the gala but his name was not on the credits. -
I hear ya. Sorry for your loss Nick. My mom's passing last October pretty much put an end to my 2013 entry. No biggie, it'll just get finished up another day. As far as this year's Torino, body work is done and everything's been primed. Some touch up body work needed but nothing worth posting pictures of at this time.
