  1. Sounds VERY compelling. I think this is what you're talking about. It could be quite a signature piece.
  2. My experiences exactly. I used to be confident I'd place somewhere at each contest but winning builds have advanced to a point that, frankly, I'm not willing to go to so I would not even feel that good about a win if I felt I didn't deserve it. It doesn't change my enjoyment of participating. If it helps Rob, sometimes the most memorable, most talked about, most photographed models at a show don't place. No awards for you, but a half dozen modelers went home thinking about doing something you did. And that goes for the rest o' ya.
  3. Yup, I still have my Apache. As a kid I was completely unaware of salt flat racing so the Apache was the only one (available) that made sense to me.
  4. First of all they look great. Secondly, this is exactly the kind of thing can excite kids (of all ages) in a way that makes them never forget. How many on this forum were inspired by things like this because the whole scope of what you can do with modeling suddenly made sense?
  5. Beautiful work Matti.
  6. Depending on who you ask, some folks think older is always better.
  7. I'd also like to commend Gregg on the quality of his website and forum. I do so because these worthy comments always seem to come on the heals of a reaction to some drama and I think this nod of gratitude should stand on its own. Well done Gregg.
  8. X2. This thread is a great reference and you're doing a bang-up job.
  9. It's the lack of questions that trouble me. My next door neighbor (and great guy) just watched and smoked a cigarette so I felt compelled to explain what I was doing. I got an affirmative nod, but otherwise just watched and smoked.
  10. Yet, there has to be two people bidding it to that high. Harry might be right about the notion of bid rigging, but to the tune of $760...? That's not even reasonable. No, I'll go with a case of a coupla lunk heads who didn't read past (half) the headline.
  11. But hey! It's free shipping. So...............
  12. I recently cracked open the AMT (MPC) 72 GTO and the seats look pretty close. Headrests are separate add ons.
  13. I was hoping the video would be a demonstration rather than a speech, but he's pretty clear. Every example I've seen of hydrographics shows a whole body covered in swirls, which was always lost on me unless you get a really compelling pattern or mix of colors. But while watching, I thought maybe it's best used as an accent. Maybe using it as texture under part of a two tone paint or a pattern coat under tint where the dip is not the end of the process. Handling would be less of an issue too if you're isolating the printed area.
  14. Quite nice. C'est magnifique.
  15. Sadly, those who are not computer literate will be left behind because our society is not considerate or patient of those who are not "connected." Tony, your friend isn't connected because he's intimidated by the technology and doesn't feel he needs it because he's gotten by without it. I've known many like him. But like my acquaintances, he may be a good case for someone to take the time to slowly introduce him to the benefits. Someone who will take the time to show him computers with patience and clarity. Like all of us, once he discovers the new world, his preconceived biases may change and he can discover the benefits on his own. The force feeding of technology is what some older folks resist, and sometimes I don't blame them.
  16. Then would you say... (ahem)... no runs, no drips, no errors?
  17. You've clearly put a lot of thought into the bikes and you seem to know a lot about your interest area. Nice work. If you get good with an airbrush you could really do something with the tribal flame pattern. That would look pretty good on a bike.
  18. I don't like to build original issue kits because I too desire to keep them true to their original design. I'll build the reissues so I don't feel the need to preserve the integrity of an original and sometimes that integrity looks kind of rough. Which is why I respect your model so much... to look so good, yet honor the way it was made. Well done.
  19. I agree with Dave. Clean presentation of the tire is part of what you pay for. Most shops even clean the blue off new white walls.
  20. Wow, every detail looks fantastic. You really thought through every piece. The door hinges look great, very precise. I'm impressed.
  21. Killer stuff Karl. A nice choice for this race, crisp and clean. Glad you pulled it out of the archives.
  22. My childhood dentist was nearing retirement and his practice was from the '40's. He did outstanding work but he was NOT painless. It's SO much different today. It's more nuisance than trauma so getting psyched out is just wasting energy. It'll be fine.
  23. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=74397 Looks like it's a Modelhaus conversion though.
  24. I had marginal success doing this. The fender seems to have been stronger than the horizontal body. Fender didn't widen but body caved. Yet I've seen this done effectively by others. I ended up adding a split to give the fender room to expand out, then fill the horizontal cut and the vertical split.
