Adventures in soldering:The GT40 project New pics 2/13/17
Randy D replied to Randy D's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I went with the 3d carbs because they are hollow and I thought it would be cool to have working linkage that opened the butterflies. These carbs look okay in these pics but in person they do not. I have cleaned them up as best I can but they have too many delicate details that are rife with ridges. Going to order some carbs from HRM after seeing them in one of JC's Cobra builds. Will see where I stand when those come in. Thanks for looking in! Randy -

Hi Folks, Thanks J.C.! Hi Tim, Glad you liked it! Bruce, Thanks buddy! Gary, I'm humbled sir. Dale, I don't think it helped, just managed some different things Ed, Thank you Hi Tony, Thanks for the comment! Austin, thanks for following along. Thanks Dave! Richard, thank you my friend! Lets call this carburetor day... Some reference pics... This Gulf car ran with four 48id Webers on a tray. Cable operated linkage. Ordered a set of TDR 3D printed carbs from the Shapeways site. The following pic shows a carb with trumpets from MFH. Making up some brackets from a piece of white metal. I made one fat one then cut it in half.... more on the following post..... -
Hi Tim, Beautiful machine work as always from you!!!!!!! I really enjoy watching your solutions to build and assembly issues. Randy

Hi Folks, Jonathan, Thank you and with your skills you will enjoy these kits! Thanks Chris! Ben, I'm having to fight the CF set more than I expected. Most of my issues have been self inflicted For instance the air intake piece requires 12 pieces of CF and then the red stripe. At first I thought to have a slight overlap on adjoining pieces so I would not have any gaps. This turned out to be a mistake as I wound up with an obvious seam. Had to scrape off the first attempts and make replacements out of the extra material thoughtfully provided. Had better luck trimming the decal right to the shape then butting pieces together. My biggest problem is my own lack of experience with decals on cars as I rarely get this far Hey Chris, Thanks for checking in my buddy! Tony, Appreciate your kind words my friend. The update tonite has pics taken at the bench but hopefully they are not too dark. Hi Anthony, Thank you and feel free ! James, You sir, are a bit twisted(in a good way) Go for it Seth, Thank you the comment! Did not get much bench time this past week but made a little progress on detailing the engine compartment.... Made up the electric connection box thingy and added more wiring.... Thanks for looking in! Randy

Hi Folks, Thanks Cameron, did you ever start the GT40 engine? I got one but have not done too much with it. Have to figure out a car to build around it! Not doing another gt40 Hi Chris, Thanks buddy! the decals are made by Tamiya for this kit. They also produced a pe fret for this kit. Both sets are sold as add ons. I suppose their way of keeping the kit price down Not you too Tim So far this kit is excellent, crisply molded parts and perfect fit. The only con so far is a slight mold line to cleanup on most parts. Tony, Thank you sir and I hear you on the pics! see below... Hi Jim, Thank you and I'm in Ft. Collins, where are you? Thanks Lloyd! David, glad you are checking in. I think you will have a great time building it Thanks Doc ! Hi Jonathan, Thank you and I enjoy your supercar builds! Tony, It is tough with all the black. Below are a couple shots on lighter backdrops taken outside in the shade on a sunny day. I will keep trying different things.... Thanks for looking in. Randy

Hi Folks, Hey Scott, Lets try to keep up Buddy I Know what you mean, on the GT 40 build I know what everything was and did in 1969. These modern race cars are a mystery! Thank you Kerry! Thanks Dale! thanks for following Shaun ! Hi Elyashiv, Thank you for the comment! Hey Tim, Thank you my friend, trying to get something done an posted in the 'Under Glass' section. 6 years I've been here and no finishes that is just scary Bruce Thanks Fabrizio !!! Hi Ben, That wire looks fine, good find, bummer about your paint. Your car looks great, like the dark wheels. small update.... Working on the air intake system, Tamiya provides beautiful parts along with the 'Ferrari' scripts in metal transfers. I added some hose clamps from 'Detail Master' and I made the little fasteners from a piece of nickel silver tube with a RBmotion socket head cap screw. Also used the carbon fiber decals for the first time. That is all for tonite, Thanks for looking in! Randy

Hi Folks, Thank you Scott!! Hey Chris, thanks for the kind words buddy. This one has me building like crazy I'm really enjoying it. Thanks Ben !!! Hi Jesse, Thank you ! Thanks Tony !! Hi Kerry, Glad you like it so far! Thanks Mark, having fun building this one. Thanks Tim !! think you will enjoy it. Hi Paul, Thank you! Hi Art, Appreciate it my friend! BVG500, The orange wires came from a bunch of miniature lights for my train stuff. Don't have the package but here is a pic of the light. Of course I can't find my calipers but it is a bit smaller than some 24 gauge hook up wire from Radio Shack. So maybe 28 gauge??? Painted the wires with Tamiya orange ( rattle can). The oil & water tank kit piece... is just mocked up in the previous posts, you do not want to glue it in until the top chassis piece is mounted over the engine the upper chassis piece... suspension parts going together.. more plumbing..... Assembling the two chassis halves then gluing in the tank piece.. Thanks for looking in! Randy
