Things are finally settling down a bit. Trying to finish this before our sept contest. Might be a tough thing to do as sept is really busy with the 296 Ferrari challenge cars. I’ll be in Monterey for a week . The Ferrari challenge will be at Laguna Seca. But anyways the Pontiac is comming out . Was able to work on the engine. Not a lot of detail, just engine plug wires. So far

Nice job! Cool subject

Mike buddy, if there was an Aston in there I would just give it to you. I have given away so many models. I just gave away a tamiya f1 kit to a friend that completed his 1/20 collection. Carl ( Slusher) I gave him a Jo-Han kit not long ago. I just gave away a few 1/8 very expensive kits to guys who didn’t have much. We have a small group of young modelers at our club and all of us give them models. I just gave away 2 1/32 f-86 jets to a couple of kids in our club. So making a little on kits but giving them away to kids that cannot afford it, it’s rewarding . Another story, the local police and sheriff dept for some reason had a whole wherehouse of plastic model kits . They get toys donated every year at Christmas, but the kids do not want models for some reason. So the kits were getting overwhelming. Like a wherehouse full. Over years. They came to our club and asked us if we wanted them. We took them and put them at everyone s houses. For a few years we had a great raffle drawing. Brought in a lot of money to our club. We had veterans builds for free, Kids free builds. Things like that. Sometimes things come to you in this hobby. Plus you get to meet a bunch of great people.

None of this made any sense to me also. I asked him ( are you absolutely sure you want to do this?) the also terrible part is that he built this really cool 2 story shed ( more like a small house) that had a lot of models in there. And a beautiful bench with all of his tools. I was called last night and he wants me to buy the Fujimi sports car models. Of course I said yes. So I’ll have a small collection of those also. $5 each. The shed will be turned into something else. Poor Phil, it’s not looking good for his modeling .

I love the ( I want it now guys!) I do not wheel and deal much in this hobby but when I see a deal I do go for it. Like yesterday I bought a Jo- Han collection of maybe 150 models. I had a friend pick them up in a truck, The guy had them for years and his new bride said get rid of them or I’ll throw them out. Oh they were $5 each. With just one call I sold them to a guy in the Bay Area. $30 each. Even that’s a deal. But if you play it right, this hobby can be just about free. My wife loves it because I used to vintage race my 66 Shelby and that was $3000 to $5000 a weekend. Now I still have nice cars but they cost. I learned how to be patient and buy right from a fellow modeler. My modeling money (as I call it) is around a $1000 in the black. This is a great hobby.

Yup patience is the answer. Another story, I was at the Fremont IPMS event a few years ago and there was the Buick grand national kit from monogram. It was is a big box with other kits. A big $5 price tag on the Buick. At 10 am. Well my buddy told me to wait until 4. So I did. A chance because it might sell. Well it did not and I walked by at 4:15 and the seller said ,( I need to sell the Buick and I do it want to take this big box of models home) so I said how much? He said ($20 for the whole box of kits), could not pull $20 out fast enough. I had 15 kits plus my grand national Buick. I traded them away for the things I wanted. I traded 6 kits for a 1/32 trumpeter me109 kit. I sold that kit for $60. And the other kits I traded , some on this site. Soooo you can come out ahead. With patience.

I was taught the laws of buying kits from a fellow modeler. Be patient. Go to IPMS and NNL events . There will be a swap meet there. Sometimes you find great deals and sometimes some guys are very proud of their stuff. I only buy the things I like and most of the time I will find it cheap. But it takes patience. I followed a mpc Toyota 2000 GT for about a year and a half. It started out at $120 but a year later I bought it for $40. Same vendor. I just bought some Jo-Han kits for $20 each at the latest swap meet. The guy was not a modeler and just wanted to unload them. So if your patient sometimes you can get that killer deal. My buddy Mark has deep pockets and buys model factory hiro kits new , Like 6 at a time. He waits for a year then unloads them when they are out of production. A $600 kit for example he will sell for $1000 up, depends on the market. Most of the time he makes a lot on three kits and the rest are free. That’s what I like because he will give me a spare kit.( like a 1/12 Daytona coupe I recently received) But as Ace said (because you want it.) Just an example of supply and demand.

Perry I have a historic racing miniatures Ferrari resin trans kit available. Would you like to trade it for the iwatta neo? Let me know if interested
-
This is a little late, but thank you Perry for the trade on the air brush. . I have pretty much every iwatta air brush now thanks to you. All air brushes are not created equal. This fits right in with my other brushes . It works great as I just used it and it painted my GTO engine block . It’s talent that makes a good finish on a model but you still need great equipment to have a great finish, I’m lucky that my trade combines with my hobby. I have automotive spray guns from the early 70’s. Still have them all. My favorite for model car painting is my iwatta lph 400. Fantastic gun for overall clear finish, but a very bad gun for base coat application. It tiger stripes the base coat very badly. So I have Sata spray guns to spray my base coats. Mosty a Sata mini jet for my base coats. On models. Air brushes are the same way. Some are great for overall finishes while others are better for detailed things like ww2 aircraft with fine lines. Anyway thank you for the trade.

Well I see the difference with us all. We’re different but the same in a lot of ways. Ace is right , we all have different opinions on this car. There is a video showing how the car was made and I’m really impressed . The car was a stack of aluminum and the guys turned it into this. Jay Leno said it best, ( would you spend millions on a painting or millions on a car? ) I do not care what you guys think but money does change you. If you have more you will spend more. I have worked all of my life to have things. I have 11 cars, three paid houses , shops and other things ( all paid for) and do not consider myself rich by any means. My income working on Ferraris have raised my income into the middle 6 figures a year. I never thought I would spend $7000 on a dog but I did. I just spent $ 600 on a dinner last night and thought I would never do that ever. I just gave away several 1/8 scale models that cost around $1700 each. So if I had billions I would spend millions on a hand made car of some sort. Because I would own all of the other Ferraris and other exotic cars anyway. It’s in all of what you have and what you want to do. Like my friend said ( you only live once. ) and I think about that a lot now because my brother just passed. And I’m going to spend alot on cars and aircraft ( real) because as Ace said time is running out. -
I agree, but this is the IPMS version of their rules.

I love the styling of an auto. Curbside works for me. I went to a styling school in LA and it was so cool. But I couldn’t afford it so I had to quit. Now don’t get me wrong, I like details just as much as the next guy. But a curbside is a great slump buster. To me , it’s styling . The looks of a car is very important to me. Color, styling. Are the points of interest to me. Curbside? Yes for me. Here is a pic of the mfh rabbithole you can get into. So much detail, people lose interest or patience. It’s a 935/78 engine. I have been off and on this build for years. So a good curbside is always good.

I have to stop this build for a few days. My brother passed yesterday so I’ll be taking care of that for awhile. Thanks for the following guys. I’ll get back to the GTO when I can. Thanks again guys

Some interior shots. Not my best area but it came out ok. Wasn’t going to put seatbelts in her as it’s pre 1968 federal regulations. But if I was to drive her today, she needs belts.
