Safety in the 50's
Brudda replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Safety has changed for the better. I was watching a car factory video in the 60’s and no one was wearing spray masks. Just shooting paint with no protection. Lung cancer? What’s that? But on the flip side I think we have too much safety information on cars that it can be distracting. Like big screens for information in cars. My friend bought a new Volvo and just to get the heater to work you have all of these apps to get thru. Keeps your eyes on the screen , not the road. He already had several close calls because of technology. And all of the sensors on cars? I’m in the body shop industry and how come with all of the sensors and safety, I have more work than I can handle. Lack of common sense? I don’t know. Mike Rowe says safety 3rd. I believe him. We need people that take chances, fighterjocks , race car drivers , etc , I’ll stop here as i can keep this up forever. Just my humble opinion. -

Thank you Ace Garageguy. On my second try on the main wings. Takes a little to get used to. -

Comparing the f-16 to the p51. The modern technology is amazing. The size of the p51 is small to the f 16, and the f16 is a small fighter in today’s world. -

Anyway you guys were right about him… here is the foiled experiment. I tried it several times to learn how to apply it. You have to stretch the foil . Without ripping it. I’m going to try to heat the foil a little. To repair aluminum on autos you need to preheat the panel. So I’ll try this. -

Good morning Snake, I really do not know much about aircraft. I just research and have many aircraft friends. I have helped a friend build a 1:1 Pitts biplane. Fantastic experience. That’s why I built a 1/32 Pitts . With a real build, the model was a little easier. 12 years ago I was going for my pilot’s license but a stroke got in the way of that. If there was a good thing it was a doctor that told me if I modeled, that would take care of my fine motor skills. I had to show him the finished model. And that was the start of my modeling hobby. Cannot fly but modeling is pretty fun. And you meet the coolest people. My wife was relieved, when my pilot interest was put on hold. I wanted to start up my license again, the wife said do anything else and I will not complain. So if I spend a little for kits, I do not have to worry about the wife. I guess the stroke was a blessing in disguise. The p51c has to be an incredible aircraft. I live in Reno nv. And we do not have the air races anymore . You are blessed to see that p51. -

Ok here are my references and the props. Airfix has come along way. I collect pretty much all the p51s I can get. I have all of the 1/32 zoukei Muira, tamiya. Revell p51’s. Most of the 1/48 p51’s and some 1/72. This is my second aircraft build. The first is a Pitts biplane. I entered that plane in the Vegas IPMS nationals and it took a third. I give the aircraft guys at our club a bad time. I tell them “what’s so hard about aircraft modeling?” I’m pretty sure that’s going to bite me in the you know where. But it’s great giving those guys a hard time. -

Thank you snake. I do have the d prop. I’m building it like I restored it. Not anything to copy. I have a friend who his dad bought one for $800 . Restored it his way and then sold it to be an air racer. Here is my progress so far. Going to try to foil the plane. A foil challenge.
