68-72 Suburban scratch build
64SS350 replied to 64SS350's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I start with a solid glue joint, then use the super thin CA to reinforce after glue sets. Fill with body glazing and sand, seal with the CA again...sand and primer until flush, more CA if necessary. Thicker CA can be used if larger gaps or holes need filled. -
I believe the Revell kit to be more detailed, better chassis, opening trunk, etc.

68-72 Suburban scratch build
64SS350 replied to 64SS350's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
At the time I started, there weren't many options, now several people are 3D printing the bodies. I ordered tubing for the axels today, and I need to get busy on casting the engine bay. -
This may have been asked already, already searched for an answer, nut no luck. Is there a way to get ahold of him? Thanks

Gotcha... thanks!

Did you get to the centerline wheels, or am I missing them on your site?
-
Update... Chassis, interior, engine bay done( minus two decals). I wanted to trim the seats in red somehow, but what I tried didn't work out, so all gunmetal it is. If I do the custom version in my head on the next one, the interior will be more detailed.(This was after all a go between build..lol). Stole the wheels from the Zl1 kit, look way better for a stock look. Also made aluminum exhaust tips,. didn't care for the chrome ones, or refinishing them.

I have two of those, but chose the 2016 version, no optional grill...darn. I'll figure out something!
-
Really?! Lol....I thought about opening the grill holes, now I may have to , that looks awesome! I just opened the mounting area. Nice work!
-
I get the....test fit everything. Lots of little stuff as you said, though I don't think I've checked the engine bay for fit yet. Not sure what you did, but in the last pic, you can see I removed the solid area behind the grills, made fitting those much easier and now they set in where they belong. Nice job on your paint

Painted the chassis and interior tub. This is my first flocking/embossing attempt. Decided to finish off the trunk area.

Like in BDSchindler's post, I too started this project around February/March, as a second project. I hesitated starting a post, so as not to jump on his bandwagon. But, they are two builds that won't be the same! Interesting to have the same issues or challenges with the same kit as someone else at the same time! Anyway, here's my progress... started with resin body, using a 2016 kit as a donor. I haven't decided yet to build it plain or customize the body.

Thanks for the confirmation, I have the Tamiya issue, just like the styling of this one also. -
Revell Sauber Mercedes C9 vs Hasagawa
64SS350 posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can anyone shed some light on the quality difference of these two kits? Can I assume Revell used the same mold since it was released after the Hasagawa? Thanks -
MCW paints are very nice to use. It is actual automotive paint reduced to scale. So other lacquers should be fine, but always do a test shot if unsure or want to see end results before hand.

Paint booth/exhaust air pressure question
64SS350 replied to 64SS350's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry, let me clarify. I will be exhausting into the closed room. I would cut a 4" hole in the door -
This is for those well versed in negative and positive air pressure. I have an old fruit cellar that I boarded and sealed off years ago. It has a metal foundation vent for outside air, is approximately 6'x8'. If I vent through the door from a paint booth, would the fan be able to exhaust properly. I believe at this point, I may go with a marine engine bay exhaust fan, as suggested from another paint booth build thread. Thanks

Being prompted here last week, I went to HL Saturday(at opening) and also found..one..new Charger kit...now they have one less! Also picked up a spray can of Mr Surfacer primer to try, it lays down very nice!

Rattle can "glop" leakage
64SS350 replied to plasticprime's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My first experience with this is when I came home to find a can of caboose red leaked heavily ( maybe entirely) and ran down the wall from a high shelf . Yes, decant them or pitch them! -
