Interesting, maybe Tim will stop in and provide us with some insight... If not maybe I will reach out to him and see what exactly it entails. -
1/16th TDR Camaro Pro Mod and Dirt Modeler mock up

What? So they can scan in a body? Say the Corvette body I am working on, they could reproduce that as well for the masses? -

Dave I haven't posted any pictures but I have to say it is definitely worth every penny. As ROM stated, you will have some shell out the money and some will complain about the price being to expensive. Knowing the amount of time it would take to build one from scratch, I have to say the price is very reasonable. Now not sure if it is my body or the reduction in size that caused it. But the front clip seems to be out of alignment. Not sure if it is the bracing pushing up on the a pillars... But other that that and the discussion of the bit of body work is very minor. All in all, I appreciate the work put into this body to get it into production. -

Thanks ROM that helps me understand how your scale system works based on what you posted. Very interesting, so then going to Cali they charge you tax! Note to self don't move there.... Because I was only charged the $170 plus the shipping. I guess you are right, everyone has different price points they are willing to pay. Would I classify this body as caviar? I don't think so. I guess it really comes down to knowing how much time and money one would put into buying two models just to build a pro mod the appropriate way in this scale. -

Ok Rom... I gotta know what are your plans for Shoes for this puppy???? Very curious to see what you have in mind, as I have already been running through my options for something different than what has already been done. As for your scale, help me understand what constitutes your ratings for "In Scale, Price and Buildabiltiy"? Myself, if I was building a body out of styrene with minimal use of Bondo I wouldn't charge any less than the price from TDR. I find that this is a very respectable price knowing it takes 2 cars to build one if you could come up with a 69 camaro in 1/16th scale. And where did you have our car shipped to "Kingdom Kum"? That is roughly $15.00 more than I paid. -

Now this is definitely a wild paint job.... I like bright and all... but this is a bit much even for me. The poor body lines seem to get lost in all those different paint lines within that layout. -

Congrats Romell, I got mine today as well! I have to say it looks great, one thing I did notice is the thickness of the door and the flush mounting lips around the door and windows is almost completely invisible in some area's. This is going to take some very delicate and time consuming time to file down and get the lip the same in all area's. In 1/16" the doors protrude out just a bit due to the lip not coming out quite right from the printer, but an easy fix with a square block and some patience. I have to say though this is probably one of the best bodies to date, and the only one that is accurate for door/front clip lines the way they all meet up! This one will set to the side and collect dust on the box top while I purchase the parts I want to complete it! -
Pictures look pretty darn good considering... nothing to be ashamed about what you posted! I have the same problem, just adjust your white balance and add more indirect lighting and that will help some. It may help if you reduce your background and put something behind your car so it doesn't eat up what lighting you have as well. But your car looks awesome, I think this is the second one I have seen completed! At least you have one that is complete, that Tyrone didn't purchase and used up for just the Wheels! LOL

I can see why you haven't made it to the bowls yet, look at that amazing detail in just the main body... I can only imagine what the rest of carburetor will look like when it is finished!

Ok, I will play... here is a pic of me with one of my favorite Hot Rod builders! Sorry for the fuzzy picture

This Pic right here is just out right killer! Great job on getting her to this point, I am sure you were very satisfied when you got to this point in the build. Hey Rom.... so looking at this picture again after you moved your master cylinder, you have it running the right direction now (perpendicular to the pedal mount), but it looks like you have it mounted backwards. Where your reservoirs are they should be facing the other direction, so your Slave Cylinder can come out of the back side of the master cylinder and connect to your brake pedal. I know you have gone to a lot of work getting it mounted, so not sure if this is something you are even wanting to worry about at this point in your build. I can't tell from the pic, are you good with the two lining up to connect the two once fixed? The other thing, I really like these wheels that you and Joe are using very unique.... One thing that I noticed and even on my front tires is that darn chunk that Flashpoint took out. I wish he wouldn't have done that, the tires is pretty much not repairable with just sanding. Thinking of getting that RC black CA glue that is rubberized and seeing if I can fill in that missing chunk of the tire and round it out some.. may give that a try as well and see if that works for you. I think it is called CA 1000 or 2000 something like that. It looks like a thick black rubber goo...

[quote name='jmpsebring' timestamp='133 0891660' post='643914'] Joe, did you ever resolve the turbo size issue? Shapeways website shows all the choices, but I'm at a lost if they have made changes or just sent you the wrong scale. Their blower and Lenco is quite amazing. I also bought a 1/1800 warship... .

Now that is what I am talking about! I would take that willys in the background. Gotta love the modern days with updated technology. -
I see right now, that if I break down and purchase a mill.... the first piece I have to get is a Rotary Table!
-
Just incredible Dave, I am continually amazed how you can do all this free hand without a cnc machine.
-
Joe has a lot of great tips and to top it off, this is his first full blown chassis build. Looking at this thread you would never have know, because he executes exceptionally well! I am honored you would want to use my post as a reference for anyone. Thanks Joe, glad I could help and that goes for anyone else looking for assistance. This hobby is all about tapping into those who are willing to lend a hand.

69 Nova outlaw prostreet Finished (09/02/12)
eviltwincustoms replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Ummmm Tyrone, you are frustrated with this build and want to stop and give the project away.. Because you want to build a 1/16th car.... Hopefully my JEDI mind trick is working.. Man you realize the thing keeping me from building up something like this is because I am in the Philippines. This has to be my favorite so far. I have to ask, because I don't know this body style that well. The back trunk section, on the real car do they really have no section. Between the back window and the trunk lid? -
Great ingenuity on the battery post clamps, I would have never thought to do that. ROM, you realize you need to slow down on this build, Right?.... Take time and smell the roses. I can't have you starting on that Camaro just yet... LoL... I can't afford more parts just yet! j/k... In all honesty you are doing a fantastic job. Oh I do have one question, and I think this has come up before in other threads. Do Pro Mods run one or two batteries? Since they don't have starters or I should say are not required to self start, I think Dave said something about most run a smaller second battery for the electronics or something?
-
Man I can imagine your heart sank when it happened. As you said it happened for the best because you have a great start on something no one has done! This time make sure it doesn't take a nose dive.

A bit darker than I would have liked, but it looks awesome! It makes it look like the car is a work horse and that engine and exhaust headers works for it money to get from point A to point B in 4 seconds or less. -
Man Bill this is just amazing work. If the car wasn't on a white background I would have sworn it was a pic of a 1:1. I have.to ask just because you have so much detail in this build,. Did you the separate the inner fender from the rest and make it so they bolt up like a real one as well? I have already said it but WOW THIS IS AMAZING!
-
Wow I think your calipers and ruler get the most work out on your bench. I know for myself the calipers are the #1 tool I probably use the most. Love the one pic with all the straight lines to get symmetry and alignment of the main layout of the part. I will say you have one luxury probably most don't and that is direct access to the performance parts you are scaling out.

This is just an amazing piece of ROLLING Artwork! Like the others said, it is huge man I hope he has a place to put it possibly in that long glass display case. Now let's get to work on that Pro Mod.
