Herbie the Love Bug?
Tom Geiger replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just a few comments.. The original Revell kit is incorrect. It had the 1967 plus front fenders. I noticed that when I was 11! The Polar Lights kits go together wonderfully. Back then they were working on a kit strategy of snap plus.. a kit that a novice could assemble quickly and get nice results, and a good model builder could detail up and get a fully detailed model. The Polar Lights Herbie does not have VW emblems on it because the movie car did not. In the movie they called it “the little car”, never using the trade name! I believe the later releases had the emblems. The Herbie was the first kit that ever had the full soft top in our scale! One tip- the top snaps in place. The snap prongs are too far towards the edge and are visible on the finished model! Sand them off and glue the top in place. And does anyone have the later releases.. Spider man, Harley Quinn and Coke? Do any or all of them come with the soft top? -

Mark.. I never heard of specific glass coverage. This car has State Farm collision and comprehensive. I will call my agent tomorrow to see if anything is covered.

Yea, I had a sucky day! I haven't left the house for a week. I go to an appointment and got my windshield smashed. I was on the PA Turnpike and a huge chunk of ice came flying over the median.. a truck going the opposite direction! I will have to check and see if my insurance covers anything in the morning. Did I say it sucks?

Jimmie Johnson's first Cup start
Tom Geiger replied to Bmargo11's topic in Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Very nice build! I have a soft spot for Jimmie Johnson... and the story: Back when I was facility manager for Bristol-Myers Squibb New Brunswick NJ site, the company was very proud of their foray into Busch League racing with the Excedrin car.. We'd get regular emails about the racing stats and encouraged everyone to have company spirit and follow the races! One of the emails said that the car would be doing an appearance at a local car dealer on a Saturday. I got a bright idea and called up the promotions manager and asked if the car could appear on a company property... he was very excited! The car was already in the area with the promotions company just sitting in a motel... so they'd be more than happy to come to our site on Thursday. Like clockwork the hired team showed up at 8am. We rolled the car (it wasn't set up to run) onto the lawn outside the site cafeteria. They had 8x10s of the car and driver, and 1/64 cars to hand out. The promotions guy asked me to get site clearance for one more person... he had the rookie driver... one unknown Jimmie Johnson who would attend a bit later. Cool! This was done on short notice, like the afternoon before! I quickly made a color flyer to advertise the event. I met with someone in the printing department and arranged for it to be printed and posted on every building door and bulletin board on site by 7am. I got in that morning and... nothing! I stormed off to the printing office and one know it all manager said he stopped my order... and started lambasting me that the photo I used was copyrighted by Excedrin... I responded, "And who owns Excedrin?? WE FRIGGIN DO! It's OUR copyright!" He quickly scrambled! I was worried the word wasn't out, but spread quickly! We got bombarded! From the time we set up, there was a line of people to see the car and driver, and get the freebies. We had a raffle for shirts too. As things winded down after everyone went back to work after lunch the promotions guy told me Jimmie was hungry and could we feed him? Absolutely! I took him into the company cafeteria and we had lunch! He was the nicest most respectful young guy! I will always remember that day! -

Alumilite is a poor name for resin since it makes you think “aluminum”. Makes sense to change it

Round 2 purchased by an investment firm
Tom Geiger replied to charger74's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Revell is owned by (drumroll please!) a private equity firm! One that like Praesidian Capital that has a record of growing businesses! I see that Chicken Little has reared his ugly head once again... And why does Round 2 need money? For growth! All I've ever heard from Round 2 employees and in everything I read is that they don't have the band width (read that money and people) to do everything they would like to do! They do business with the likes of Walmart, who pays vendors net 120. Their whole business is based on store sell through in 30-60 days, and paying vendors in 90-120 days. Basically, everything you see in Walmart is still owned by the vendor who sold it to them! They have 11,500 stores. Figure you have $10,000 in inventory in all of them, that means you need a bankroll of $115 million for just that one activity... So you have an opportunity to do more business with Walmart.. which is money in the bank... 3 to 4 months in the future! That takes money to bankroll. And that's probably the situation! -

The robo calls I get don’t include a live human. I wind up answering much of the time because I get a lot of business calls I’m not expecting. The minute the speel starts playing I hang up. I hate calls I get from Indian job recruiters. They are in India, most of them cannot be understood and they have no concept of American geography. I’m in Philadelphia area and they’re calling with a golden opportunity in California.. I had one call last summer. Hard to understand and I was barely civil... I quoted a large number and absurd terms.. wound up doing a four month consult off that one!
