St John Jeep
Tom Geiger replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have paint that may be close, I need to spray some to see. Im sticking with the details from the first photo.. I like it better without the doors. I may make some cushions but not permanently fix them so I can display either way. Yea that seat looks like torture on the bumpy roads of St Thomas. I have an idea to build the roof, which will be removable. The build won’t be an exact replica, I already see some differences I won’t change. But it will be recognizable. -

St John Jeep

It’s been a few days since I last posted progress. I did take a breather from the bench for a day or two, and have been playing with other projects as well. Still, I’d get a little done here every day. Above is the roll bar. The one on the Jeep is wider than any I found in kits, about 60” wide. I did find one bar that wasn’t wide enough but was too tall. It worked out that I could use the removed height to add to the width. I still may rethink the roll bar as the actual one appears to be much thicker. And here we are with most of the body work done. I just have the bed rail to add, note the top side panels are drilled for it. I also have to fashion a thin set of front wheel flares. Then it’s off to primer.. -

Many of us buy our blades in larger packs, I get the 100 pack. I dispose of used blades by simply wrapping them in blue tape. i have two 50 drawer sorting units on the shelf over my bench for small parts. I pull from that all the time. I have drawers marked for everything from valve covers, wheel backs and even small round shapes.

Dave- A thought.. When one hits the little newspaper icon at top of page for: Unread Content Showing all content I have not read and posted in for the last 365 days This is the slowest activity on both my iPhone and Windows 10 laptop. I can imagine it is indexing tens of thousands of posts! When I do my own search and limit timeframe to 90 days or even 6 months, it is much quicker. Would your setting the default search to 6 months be possible? I think that could solve a lot of the slowness issues! -

Ive gotten a bit of work done on the Jeep.. I have the rest of the bed panels made and modified a roll bar to fit. I couldn’t find one wide enough, but this one was too tall. I shortened it and used the piece to widen it. Using the squirrel ? defense... While waiting for things to dry on Jeep A, I cobbled together another chassis for a 2WD Jeep from parts. Jeep B up on wheels. Yea, I’m hopeless..

Ive been doing the 24 Hour Build since 2013. I will be building the Red Chariot to add to my line of Monogram Model As. I don’t have the classic box, I have later issues of the Phaeton and the unique old parts that make this famous old kit. Join in folks, it’s a lot of fun. This year we will have a Zoom meeting up the entire 24 Hours.

I believe they were from Malvern, PA, which is a town or two over from me. Last I knew Pam was still out there at car events signing pix of the ta-ta’s. ?

Nice looking car! It doesn’t need to be a rumbling menace, just something nice to cruise around town is just wonderful! -
