Constant & Annoying Emails From Finescale Magazine
Tom Geiger replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I did get a Fine Scale renewal notice by mail prior to getting my first issue! And a few since. I do get at least a daily email from Kalmbach for books, etc. Right now I’m not signing up for FSM. I do understand it will take time today weave in some auto content, so I’ll see how that goes. -
Looks good to me! ?

Very interesting! When I saw your thread I thought you’d be using the custom parts from this kit, but you certainly went your own way! That piece you used on the rear may be the custom nose piece from the 70s Barracuda turned upside down.

Very nice! Everyone from our era has a Duster story. I graduated high school in 1976 and worked delivering pizza that summer. The girl my age who took the phone orders had a sister a few years older than us who worked full time. Terri showed up at the restaurant to visit her sister in a 73 Duster. It was a 318 V8 car with auto, air conditioning, bucket seats and a console. It had low miles and was silver with a red half vinyl roof and interior. I thought this car was perfect! And she was selling it for $1500! I wanted it! Only at 18 I didn’t have enough cash. So I went to the bank where I had my account since I was 14, sure that they would be impressed with my part time job, $500 down payment and my sincere promise to pay them back. That was not so, they didn’t loan me the $1000. A pity for all parties concerned, Terri because her car was not sold, me because I didn’t get the car and the bank because I have never ever not paid a debt!

Yes, my father always said that you don’t have car payments, so if you need to pay for a repair it’s like making a one time payment!

My own peeve is when people use doll house accessories.. 1/12 scale things on a 1/24 or 1/25 scale diorama. I remember one where a man was as reading a HUGE newspaper!

The Official EBay Discussion Thread

The problem is that eBay lost their roots as they continue to chase Amazon’s tail. They forget that they began as a collector to collector trading medium. Pierre invented it so his girlfriend could trade her Pez dispensers! Back in the day, your email addy was visible, and you saw the sellers as hobbyists just like you. You’d engage in email conversations and people would send you photos of their cars. I never experienced any fraud. Pre PayPal I’d send merchandise out before checks cleared. No worries. I always said things would go sideways once computers got too cheap and easy to use! When eBay opened up to selling consumer goods, the buyer was different. They saw sellers as companies and themselves as consumers. Thus they started treating sellers like the Walmart return counter. The entire market has changed and eBay has encouraged this division by masking everyone under screen names and discouraging any interaction. They have dehumanized their marketplace. eBay has taken the stand that the customer is always right, even when the buyer is very wrong. Ever notice when you look in your purchases, the first choice is “Return This Item”? In my first move to selling outside of collectibles, a relative gave me a big box of new computer parts and accessories. I put some up for sale, and upon selling a computer battery, I got the check and sent it out the next morning. I got my first bad feedback “Slow Shipping”! I asked the buyer and he said he expected sellers to ship hourly 24/7 because that’s what some major retailers did. I tossed the rest of that inventory and never went to that market again! -

eBay has grown by leaps and bounds. When I first got involved there was ONE model category that included everything. And you could browse it completely in a short time! -
Nice! The hardest part in these is to restore areas where accessories were heavily glued on.. especially skirts!

Did you talk with your bank? If you present them with evidence of the fraud, they should remove those fees. Otherwise it's time for a new bank! -
The owner is one post above you. He was having Paypal issues about 2 weeks ago. PM him with your question.

Been there, done that! Which is why my waste basket (it's actually an old beer case) sits behind my chair next to the spray booth. I did the dance with Verizon a few years ago. Finally got to English speaking person who gave me the third degree.... Did I reboot the computer? Can I unplug and plug in the router? And of course told me the problem was no doubt mine, and when they sent a tech to my house there would be a big house call fee unless it was their issue. Well, one guy shows up and he sees the problem but can't figure out why. Second van pulls up, now I have two guys in my den. They did like my model display case though! They replace the router (which is theirs) and they get tech number three on a phone call. They couldn't understand what was up since there were no other complaints from where I was wired into. Then tech on the phone discovers I'm the only connection on the blade back at headquarters... and the blade went bad! He switches me to another one and everything works once again.... no service fee and they let me keep the new router.
