What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I live in Chester County Pennsylvania right on the Delaware border. PA has 6% sales tax and DE has none, so the local sport is going shopping to Delaware. As you hit the state border on Route 202, instantly there are huge shopping centers! I bought my snow blower at Lowe’s there and my big screen TV at their Walmart. Savings on the $500 TV was $30 and $1000 snow blower was $60! At least enough that we’d stop and have dinner! -
Resin Mustang II coupe?
Tom Geiger replied to Railroad's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I’m surprised Chris is no longer offering his. It’s very nice and I thought it would be a decent seller. Your best bet is to set up a search agent on eBay to find someone reselling one. Note that the 74 Mustang II has a different nose than the later years, as the first year only offered a 4 or V6, and the nose had to be modified to make room for the V8 in 75 and later. Chris’s is a later car. Anyway, if you search resin, Mustang (1974,1975,1976,1977,1978) that would find any resin Mustang for any of these years. eBay will send you an email whenever one gets listed. -

When MPC updated the van they changed the shape of the body around the grille to accommodate it, so the older grille / bumper assembly doesn’t fit.. I tried! MPC was actually quite earnest in the annual changes so the current body has the larger tail lights and even the indents on the roof are different.. a bunch of work on the body shell to properly backdate. When Round Two restored the last factory grille prior to that awful ambulance grille that never existed in 1:1, that version is actually the high end grille with stacked rectangular headlights. It would’ve been cool if they did the base model grille with single round headlight.

Very nice! I have noticed a lot of interest in the big Chevys of this era, saw several kits on eBay in the $2-300 range.

Absolutely! A while back my wife asked if I could help her sell some things on Craigs List. She brings out a bunch of expensive designer purses I had no idea she had. My first thought was, “You spent how much of our money on this?” Then in view of how much I spend on my hobbies I knew I couldn’t say a darn thing! ?

Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....
Tom Geiger replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Good points Scott! They could issue that box art with a sealed box of random sprues inside and we’d buy it! And there is a good chance they do have the Monogram 1/24 kit instead. Does anyone have the latest releases of either kit to see where it was molded? -
"correct" scale for new releases
Tom Geiger replied to Motor City's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And don’t forget that when Lindberg came back on the scene they started out tooling new releases in 1/20 scale. They thought they’d pioneer this as the new scale and sent cases of kits to shows to use as door prizes. We had a tough time even giving these away at NNL East! Eventually they gave up and gave us some very nice kits in 1/25. -

Isn’t this one on the list? It’s a kit that brings strong comments about its build ability, but also strong feelings about the nostalgia of the box art. With the clone of the real car around, newer modelers would be familiar with the subject. It just has to be done with the original box art! And note that the decals for the Hollingsworth car have never been in the kit, so that would be a big thing if they could pull it off. And the real car has wire wheels, no doubt I’d be asking too much for them to include those in the box! Sharp eyes may notice Bob Paeth’s autograph on my box. He was pleased to sign it for me and we had some great conversations about his involvement with the original kit! -
Probably both! Everything is slow now, mails are taking a long time due to Covid labor shortages and increased volumes with online sales doubling. And I’ve seen people posting to double your holiday decorations to cheer people up! My wife put everything up in our house.

I enjoyed the comments about this series and Tim’s assessment that if these tools weren’t given this last ride, they would’ve ridden the scrap truck along with the pickup tooling! I do own at least one copy of each that has been reissued, but my experience has been mainly with the Falcon. It’s crude, pretty much an old annual with one piece chassis. The kit interior is omitted and what there is of the interior builds directly onto the chassis. The tires are poor, like four huge treadless slicks, but I do like the kit wheels. And I started an idea for a simple build.. I’d take a sad old 63 Valiant body I owned and simply transplant the Falcon’s innards under it. Yea, that’s the plan! HA! As usual we went down the road to overcomplicated! In the end the Valiant indeed got built but it’s more inspired by the Falcon than of the Falcon. I couldn’t bring myself to use much of it. I cut down the roll cage quite a bit to fit and used the wheels, but most of what I used came from AMT’s later 71 Duster. Later, I thought I’d build the Falcon out of the box for the 24 Hour Build since I had several of them. Again, mid build I couldn’t commit to that hokey one piece chassis and swapped in the detailed Revell 66 Mustang Shelby chassis and suspension. Again I used the kit wheels, but found better tires in my squirrel stock. In the end I will do another Modified Stocker or two to add to this line up. And no doubt I’ll mix and match parts to my liking to achieve results that will make me happy. I’m glad to see the series appearing again, which insures the tooling is earning its keep, as they are an interesting part of modeling history.

Here’s two trucks I pass every day on my way to work. I was a bit early this morning so I stopped to take pix -
Interesting! A thread from 12 years ago only now gets its first replies. And Luke passed away some time ago EDIT- just looked at his profile and he last accessed the board in 2010, so this is indeed the Luke I mentioned. He was a regular poster on several boards and a big fan of early NASCAR.

was at michaels store today
Tom Geiger replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I checked my local Michael’s last week... models are in the “Children’s Crafts” section and it’s shrunk down to nothing. Their Testors paint rack is half empty, and for some odd reason is a locked case. I remember spending a half hour trying to get someone to open the case. Finally an employee showed up, obviously annoyed to have to help me. I picked out two cans of paint and she wouldn’t let me touch them! She brought to front of store and handed off to cashier like I was going to steal them! I wrote off the store at that point! -

I just read this thread for the first time. I built this Datsun pickup for a Datsun theme. You would never know it had the entire Foose F100 pickup chassis under it. For this event I would’ve kept the hood flat and put on less conspicuous wheels
