History of MPC's Fifth Generation El Camino Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have one of the 98 issue SS conversion kits. The tooling was Highly Polished leaving the kit body parts with a very High Gloss shine. I remember that it was sold as Not needing paint. I built the El Diablo issue too Replaced the molded coil springs with actual coils. Yes, it would deflect! I sold/traded that one a LONG time ago. -

Nice, But the STOP sign on the hood is Backwards. STOP should be readable from the right side not left. I will have to look for some large clear blocks to do that with too I would start with Clear not clear red so I could have the 2 Clear bands in the cap Like Michigan State Police do/did!! (I can't say MSP As I too have them here, But MARYLAND State Police!) Also as to my question about these being 2 of 4 beam, The one in the photo at the beginning of this topic has 2 beams in it not 4 I saved a copy of the pic, and just did a close up look. -

Mack DM600 yard goat
Edsel-Dan replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I like this too And a DD in a Mack is Not unheard of. They Sold a truck the way the buyer wanted it, If it was ordered new. And an engine can always be a replacement!! Being a yard Mule, it very well Could have had a replaced engine! If sold New with a different brand Engine Mack painted the hood mounted Bulldog Gold, If it had a Mack Engine, it was Chrome (I think that is correct. Or is it backwards?? and the Cold was for a MACK engine, and Chrome other supplier??) -
Some parts are no longer in the AMT kit, like the Styline custom front & rear, Globe Spotlights, Trophy With Miniature 57 Fairlane 500, easel for display. Also, in latter issued some of the Suspension parts have been moved off the chrome trees. Mostly though, the MT kit is the same one we have always gotten.

Edsel-Dan replied to Randytheroadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You Could start with an Old AMT tooled Bel air That one used a decal for the Bel Air insert!! But, You will have to alter the roof, or graft a sedan roof on and modify the belt line at the windows. The dip is further back past the door line -
70's re issue of old revell 59' starliner!
Edsel-Dan replied to MsDano85gt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have Several of this kit From Originals to the RoG 50th Anniversary issue. I built this 74 issue back then I had very little trouble with it then!! I was only 13 too!! She is in the process of a full resto, but stalled; I got this one built. All I did was match tires, and repaint the white; And this is Build 3 As a Skyliner! Started with a Skips issue (First Skips!!) Yes I opened the doors!! I have a Large Strip Styrene "T" glued into the body to keep from breaking the Rockers until I permanently glue the chassis into the body. And here is the Fourth I am building. Notice it will be a Custom Sedan!!! YES that IS a Police car in the Making!! Baltimore City! Rims are from AMT 57 fairlane 500, Tires are AMT Skinny Firestones. NOT Supremes!! They are Not as hard as many will lead you to believe! I simply assembled the body arround the chassis to assure a straight body!!!! -
Models in the movies

Criminal Minds. The Freeway Killer episode The killer has diecast on a shelf in the kitchen/dining room. He had 3 daughters, Youngest hit by a car and killed. Wife was higher up in company than he. It was found that all scenes with with and other 2 daughters were halucinations, as he had already kiiled them before FBI was called in. -
Original Chassis Does NOT show gas tank. Look at my 2: And YES that is the box of one! "El Ranchero Grande" First one I got. I also have a "Styline" box!!!

Cop Car guys... Unity Spitfire "gumball"?
Edsel-Dan replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe the Lights in the 70 Ford Police Interceptor, are closer to First Gen Strobe's than any type rotator. I remember that Original issues of this, the 70 Impala SS Fire Chief, Chevy Van Police & Rescue had Blue lenses with vertical 'fins' for want of a better word, on the outer surface. There were also grooves/flutes/fins on the top! They were also Less translucent than the reds which were Almost transparent They were closer in effect to the Ambers of the time The Van kits had Ambers in the same shape, & size. Another reason I believe them to be Strobes vs Rotators is th e design of the base. I guess they Could be a Single Reflector rotator, but that dome effect core looks more like a Strobe element Best option outside of scratch-building, is check Policecarmodels.com to see what sizes they have. Or try to copy th e Lindber piece. But, the core is only a 2 beam rotator. Though that can be modified. I too would love a few of this beacon in scale!! -

Ghostbusters. The Original film When the Large Staypuft Marshmallow Man (person in costume) is starting to climb the side of the building. The Police cruisers, Fire trucks, Ecto-1 are all Models You can tell by the different Flashing of the Model lights versus the actual vehicles. Starlog mag did an article about that too. I think I still have that issue, but not sure where -
http://s82.photobucket.com/user/harrypri/media/1911%20Christie/christie5_zps5d8f3cc4.jpg.html I think this was a "Knox-Martin" I have one of the Reader's Digest Miniatures that looks like this and that is the Name on it. "1914 Knox-Martin" 1999 Reader's Digest Association Inc. Here: I love this. I had one of the MPC kits years ago. Almost lost it to a Fire! Traded it off a few years later.

History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
For the most part, They engine is the same in all issues. But, The MPC kit had One air cleaner design, and AMT had a different one Also take into account, the AMT GMC versions. AND the Blazer/Jimmy kits as well!! MPC's kits had Single Exhaust with Cross-over mainfolds while AMT kits had twin exhaust. The recent issues of the 72 are based on th e Original MPC Fleetside box, And AMT GMC Stepside kit cab/chassis. The grill & front bumper are one piece and Not as acurate as one from a Cooter's Tow Truck issue!! That one had separate grill & bumper Like the 71 & 72 Annuals or the 74 issue Longbox stepside and 2 modified versions. Heavy Pedal & Rolling Thunder. These 2 had a Heavy duty type bumper not the stock one, while Heavy Pedal actually shows a Stock one in the box art. Heavy pedal had a Deep set stock grill, but likely was a re-tool/modification of the Tube type in the Rolling Thunder as I have read that Rolling Thunder came second in this series with Heavy Pedal being the third and Final. I like those decals, but for clearer printing, the larger file might work better. I am not surprised that the Pickup & Blazer gills don't swap between kits. The pickups have ALWAYS had the headlights cast in place, while the Blazers/Jimmy's have Separate lenses. Look at the M-K re-issue too. Not only do you still get the GMC Jimmy headlight lenses (all 4) you also get the Chrome Jimmy Badges. All that kit needs is the GMC grill/bumper and we have a 2n1 kit!!! MAYBE we can talk round2 into offering it that way soon!! I do not have pictures of the engine parts, built engines or instructions at hand. Give me a day or 2 and good Sunny weather with No wind, and I can take a few pic's and if I remember, can look for instructions on the DPMCC fotki site, or in my files. Sorry about this part, but, the camera I am using is an OLD 1.3 MP Sony, and Does NOT like to take INDOOR Pic's At All!! No matter how many and how BRIGHT the lights I add. if anyone Has good pic's post them. -
