Well it’s finally announced.?
Repstock replied to NYLIBUD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's always the hydrogen option...No pollutants, hydrogen can be gathered on site, a fill up takes only slightly longer than with gas. Granted, the tech isn't mature, but it could be. I hope to be gone by the time gas engines are gone...it's all I've ever known. -

Trailways bus
Repstock replied to yellowsportwagon's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Now you need to get one of these to go with it. Just about the same size as your Trailways bus. It was made by Bell products. -
If you check out the dimensions of a '71 Camaro, you'll see there's not much difference in size. i wonder why the Camaro never got labeled "huge". Now I'll be the first to admit the Mustang had grown from the originals, but in '71 it was about the size of the competition.

If applicable, I could never get past that 3rd rail.

So far it looks really, really good. From what I can tell, looks very accurate. Looks like they nailed the front end.
-
Just wanted to show slow progress, but progress! Oldmopars printed the grille, and Yellowsportwagon has been helping with photos of his car. The front end is starting to come together. I'll keep plodding along and updating when there's something to show. After looking at the pictures, the 3D parts look great, what you see is dust, and the front end doesn't appear to have enough relief. It's properly pointy in person.

Trailways bus

I want to thank yellowsportwagon for two reasons: What you've got there is very, very cool. I'm enjoying watching the progress. It has inspired me to get back to work on the GMC Fishbowl master. -

You can make all the sub-classes you want, but a box-stock model will never be Best of Show*. In my experience (such as is is) larger ultra detailed models usually win. You can't completely level the field. Let's face it, these larger detailed models are very impressive, and have the "wow" factor. The assumption here is the box stock and the large scale were expertly executed. *unless it's a small or very local show perhaps.

I've gotten to the point that I don't enter models in contests anymore. I just look at the models, check out the vendors, hang with friends, and go home. I could say more, but the topis is large detailed models in contests, not the integrity of the contest itself. I suppose the day will come when you can't compete without a 3D printer, and a small machine shop. File and sandpaper guys like me are on the way out. My opinion, anyway.

Here goes: On most oil filters, the threaded side is "down", which would make your oil filter decal upside-down. I told you it was trivial. I still say nice model, though.

Had a nit, but changed my mind about posting it. Nice model!

Half one style of grille, half another...interesting. -
Oldmopars is working off my 2D cad drawing to make a 3D file for 3D printing the front grille and headlight areas. Once these parts are printed, I'll build the front end around them. Work is in progress.

One of the problems I've seen with 3D printed hubcaps/wheelcovers is that they tend to be TOO accurate. If there is an area that needs to be painted black, for instance, the depth should be exaggerated to make it paintable. On this hubcap, if one had to paint around the bowtie or the radial depressions, it would be difficult to do with everything in scale. If you plated this and THEN had to paint those areas, it might be impossible. The rendering sure looks good, though. I HAVE to learn this skill...

Three references for you...lots of pictures. Good luck on this, very cool. Video is a 4 door, but you get the idea... https://www.classicautomall.com/vehicles/1385/1966-cadillac-coupe-deville https://www.savannahclassiccars.com/vehicles/196/1966-cadillac-coupe-deville

After running into roadblocks on my other projects, I circled back to this. I've made the inner wall panels out of .015 sheet. This will allow me to detail the panels off the model, and help hold the "glass" in. Not much, but something. -
Problem is, there's no scale. Is the "doorway" 1 inch high? 50 feet high?

I'm having a real bad time trying to get the printing texture out of my bumpers and trim pieces of 3D printed bodies. The texture is so aggressive ( and I use the highest quality bodies that are offered), that I'm softening or destroying the detail and contours. Anybody have a technique for doing this successfully?
