Who are you going to call when this happens to you? better to pay a little more upfront for a known quality product than save a dime.

Reproduction floors and the trunk floor are available in the aftermarket. We used to call this color combination a "Hony Bee Car". I knew a guy that had one with the same colors but with the 3-speed and overdrive. As I recall it didn't look a whole lot better than this one and it was about a 10-year-old car at the time.

The classic with the two-tone option would have had another chrome strip along the upper body line from the door and wrapping around the tail gate and acted as a defining line between the two colors. You might look and see if there is any sign of body work in that area. That mangled trim part, if you can't find it locally there are a couple of suppliers that offer real good reproductions for all of the trim. I like the Rally wheels with the small '67 only hub caps, it makes the wheels look even deeper.

Having lived off and on for years in the "Rust Belt" let me just say this is a disturbingly accurate looking poor old, tired Nova. The basic body color sort of reminds me of the Beverly Hills Cop movie car that the Axel character that was the cop from Detroit drove. Great accuracy in the finishes throughout including the interior.

Great find and you have some work ahead of you. Seems to have some of the hard-to-find trim parts. The hood does look like it is from a '56 model but not to hard correct if that is important.

Great looking El Camino. I notice the side trim, could this have been, in the past, a Conquista model or one with the wood grain siding? You're already doing something about the headlight setup and the nice thing about these cars is that the way they are put together there are many changes you can make that are basic bolt one alterations. As your finding out the head lights can easily be changed, but the trim and even grills and bumpers can interchange with other year models as well as some of the same era GM products. I have had the good fortune to have owned two different, '66 & '67, El Caminos and enjoyed them both.

I had a somewhat similar experience, but a different threat to the show cars, years ago. Years ago, I lived in Sacramento Ca., and they were having a large car show at the County Fair Grounds. There were more than a hundred cars and trucks along with concession stands and a manufacturers area. This was covering one of the large parking lots and some of the permeant structures behind a fenced area were being painted with a large spray gun. There was a breeze that day and as bad luck would have it the over spray, barely a mist, was drifting down onto several rows of cars on display. To my amazement no one seemed to notice as the tiny dots of paint was settling on the cars. I went to the security area and informed them of the problem, and it was as if this was the first they had heard of it. The paint mist was clearly visible, and the source of the problem was someone on the second story of the building on the fairgrounds. We left shortly afterwards, and the guy was still painting away as if nothing was happening.

Beautiful looking vehicles and a few interesting ones as well. As for rain, I can understand wanting to roll up the windows or raise a convertible top in a down pour, but don't they use water to clean the vehicle in the first place?

On your exhaust tips. At one time the GTO's had an option of what was often called a splitter exhaust tip. You may have seen them in pictures; they would exit just behind the rear tires and the exhaust pipe would split into two exhaust tips in a row just below the bottom edge of the rear quarter panel. Don't know if that look would even appeal to you but it was a popular option and would often be seen on other mid-sized GM cars at the time.

Never bothered with the hose for a drink, the water inside was usually hot anyway. Just put your lips to the faucet and turn it on, and I'm still alive and well.

My condolences on the passing of your father. In addition to the beautiful paint work and finish, the engine and chassis detailing is all very realistically done. These cars defiantly represented a factory hot rod of the day.

Have used light dustings of Tamiya Smoke straight from the spray can and got a better finish than you would expect.

For the engine you could check Google Images of the Nash from that era. They will often give you an option of looking at engines as well as interiors and factory colors that were available. I think one of the biggest appearance details was the shape of the Valve Covers on the engine. Looking at any pictures may give you a good idea of what they looked like and maybe you can find an engine from another kit of a different subject where you could alter the Valve Covers to appear as a Nash engine of that era.
