Like all of the ground effects and the hood intakes. I kind of agree with the engine cover, I think it hides the detail work on the engine. Very nice paint and the wheels really show off the disc brakes.

Beautiful build, the dark blue really shows the body lines. The Good Year decals, since everyone else has commented. It looks like when Good Year stenciled their name with spray paint on their racing tires. So maybe this car is headed to a SCCA event or something. That would be in character for such a car.

Great looking build. I share your love of these cars. I owned a Hugger Orange '69 Camaro for a total of 18 years. I was the second and forth owner of the car and sold it in '95 to get a new pickup. Now I couldn't afford to buy a Camaro of that quality for less than the cost of a new car. You build looks just the way I remember these cars when they were everywhere.

Beautiful build of an Iconic race car.

Very nice. I like the way you made a Custom look more like a Road Racer. The lace paint treatment is something I have also wanted to try.

Are going with the "Leaning Tower of Power" or something far bigger ? -
A thought on an out building. I used to live in Sacramento and had a large back yard. I used a two car garage kit from Home Depot. It was used for models and work out equipment, but I think if you built a wall with a weather tight seal between the wood shop and the model side that might work. Like your area, Sacramento has some hellish summer temps and can reach freezing temps in the winter. I installed an overhead with lighting and R30 insulation. The walls had R20 and covered with sheet rock. I covered the slab with peal and stick floor covering and replaced the garage door with a double wide door and a couple of windows. In the winter I used a small wood stove for heat, and the summers never seemed to make it to hot inside because of the insulation. Tuff Shed also offers some interesting buildings.

Looks great, like something the factory should or could have done.

Just noticed your build. I also have one of these in my stash from long long ago. Now that you have shown how it can all be corrected I might also try building this rather poorly done kit.

Are you going to make a showroom stock Z-28 or IROC, or something a little more contemporary ?

57 Bel Air street rod (alclad mistake 4/11)

I agree with everyone else on the effect from the Holomatic Chrome. This could be used for an appearance on select parts that you may have never considered before. -

If you are not going to use the kit for parts, then one repair others have used on damaged bodies involves putting the body in a baggie and leaving it in the freezer. This is used to get the glue to release the glued parts. I've never tried it but there are many here who use it with great success. -
Great that your brother saved these models. They look well built for the first time around. Now with a better skill set you get to do them over again. The picture of them in the box made me think you should of taken at least one of them and sprayed it with flat clear so you could display at least one as a barn find.

Great color, sham about the hood. -
You might want to consider a top mounted GMC super charger. This was fairly common with those that could afford it. The Latham super charger is impressive looking and would clear the hood if you stay that way. If you went with the GMC blower you could do away with the hood, or create a hole in the hood. If you went without the hood you could just make radiator supports from the firewall to the radiator shroud. This would help support the radiator and frame the blower.

Had the same problem a few years ago. I found a '61 Valiant that I built back then. Wanted to strip it and redo the paint. The body had the same reaction. This was a regular AMT model. I think any model more than say 20 years old you just have to sand it by hand. I was left with a body that was more like a potato chip than anything else.

scratchbuild rear axles
espo replied to Olderisbetter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can be done rather easily with plastic or aluminum tubing, the center section is the only rear challenge. -

Nice build, I like the Mexican blanket seat cover. -
Thanks for the heads up on the tail lights and the wheels. The part #48 I think are for stock height spindles and the #49 look like a lowered height. I'm using the #49's since I usually lower my builds anyway. As for the air cleaners, I think that there is an overlap between the Ventura and the upcoming Catalina. This may explain the unmentioned part #49 and #93 air cleaners. If Moebius stays true to form we will see a NASCAR edition at some point. I can see where they could get as many or more sales out of this kit and various versions of it than they saw with their Hudsons.
