As the picture of the 1:1 Ford shows the chrome on these cars was wider than you might think. In the past I have owned a '46 two door sedan and a '48 three window. I think that some may find the three windows rear side windows looks odd but remember that that window pivots out at the rear and does not roll down. The chrome moldings that mount the window can give it an odd look because of there not being any chrome on the front edge of the glass. I have already gotten my 40% of coupon for Hobby Lobby and I'm going to town in the morning.

Well built, the color combo looks great. The Rally wheels without the hub caps give it a very aggressive look.

For myself I really like the Maroon/Champagne two-tone. You are going to want a white back ground for your decals so the side window area would be best left white or even a clear window. I think it might be easier to make your two-tone if you leave the Bel Air side trim. You mentioned removing the tail gate trim. I did this last year on a custom Nomad build. You will want to get a cold beverage and several sanding sticks, it will take a while. That would make the Nomad a little more commercial looking with the trim gone. If you're going with a more custom look you might want to remove the V-8 emblems below the tail lights also.

Now if it will just play Low Rider by War or is it Warr, I can't remember. -
What is the best way to cut out a grill?
espo replied to Deckerz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have done only a few grills and find that most are cast in such a way that when I got the grill thin enough to make the opening the grill was almost to fragile to work with. The last one I did, and it came out very good, was on the '37 Ford pick up. I used a "pick" much like a dentist would use. The tool is about 6" long with a curved sharp point on each end. You use the tool to scribe the opening ever deeper from the front. In my case I scribed all the way thru, but on a later model grill I think if you scribed from the front as deep as you can without losing any of the grill detail you could then sand from behind. That my leave the grill with enough strength that it can be handled without damaging the grill. -

Looks just like it came from the pages of Low Life magazine. All of the right accessories. You mentioned that you have a speaker system, why not have a siren sound track that so many Low Riders have. I'm not a Low Rider builder, but I appreciate and respect the effort that is put into these machines. -
I have been enjoying your build. You mentioned that you were unsure about a rear bumper. Would the stock bumper work with little or no modification since you want to go shiny ? You may have to remove or modify the bumper guards as they would interfere with the tailgate. Or some type of diamond plate bumper, but that may clash with the look you are going for.

Great looking color combo. What are you planning for the inset on the body side moldings ? Interior might look good using the same colors of the exterior.

If you want to go with something like an OEM Lemonwood Yellow that was real popular on these you might check out Model Master # 28102 Phoenician Yellow. This is a Ford color but it looks just right for the Chevrolet Yellow for that year.

It may be hard to find but Jo Hann made a '60 Plymouth wagon. -
I would look forward to seeing it in person. I may not be there this year for the first time in over ten years. I always have a couple of models on display and have had a table in the swap meet for the last three years. As luck would have it this is the first time ever that we have had a conflict with another interest that my wife and I enjoy. We will be at the Jeep Jamboree at SMOOR in southern Missouri.

Maybe do the opposite of lowering. Where you would change the front spindles only raising the front instead of lowering it. In the rear mount the rear axle under the leaf springs instead of mounting them on top. Just undo what was done to lower the model.

Outstanding build. The paint is amazing. The side pipes, are they from the kit or something you made ?
-
Beautiful build, hard to believe it only took 5 days. I picked up one of these kits last week, you and everyone else seem to be really enjoying the kit so I want in on the fun also.

I mentioned my disappointment with Testors products in general, but in relooking at your picture, it looks as if the paint your about to use on the body is their One Coat #1839M Inca Gold. This color label is I think their latest issue. I have used this particular paint and have been very happy with the results. The cans I have where all purchased over six months ago or more. At that time they used a black colored label and that may be why I was suggesting another product to use. The Inca Gold is a very bright and almost Metal Flack looking. The Tamiya paint that I used would have given you a more high metallic look. Are going for the tutone or vinyl top look or staying with the single color ?

My father struggled to open the door on our family car and thought automobiles in general were appliances for getting from point A to point B. He never did come to understand my fascination with the automobile let alone building plastic models of them. At least here you will meet people of a like mind and interest. Welcome and enjoy.

Bare Metal Foil Problems
espo replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try a small piece of tape, press on the foil you're trying to remove. This may get it to lift enough that you can grab it with your tweezers. -
Interesting paint effect, I'll have to try that . If old cars could just tell stories, it makes you wonder what this old Olds would have to say.

Great build. I like the Full Fender look.

Very impressive. The settings for the pictures really make the model look real.
-
Beautiful build, the attention to all the details are amazing.

Outstanding build. I think the dust problem is a combination of low humidity and sometimes wind create static electricity and anything plastic becomes a magnetic to dust. I'm surprised that Porsche didn't provide fillers for the front license mounting holes. I was also in the car business for many years and here in Kansas we also are not required to have a front plate. Most models might have an almost invisible indentation in the front bumper to show where it would be drilled. If you are still in contact with the owner of the 1:1 you might offer them a couple of pictures of your model, I'm sure they would enjoy seeing them.
-
Very well put together and great black paint job. Black is one of the hardest colors to get right. You might see if there are any decals for the engine call outs on the front fenders, and the tail lights might be upside down. Great build.

This is a great kit, I've built two of them so far. On the paint issues you might check some of the past paint questions on the Q & A section for some input. Unless you are 100% on the Testors paint I would like to offer an alternative. I just finished an El Camino that I used Tamiya TS-21 Gold on. I personally prefer Tamiya products, but many here have great success with Testors also. Do the old plastic spoon thing and try different primer colors under which ever body paint you use, Some times a white primer will make the color brighter than a gray or a black primer. It looks like you have enough different small bottle paint color to cover the spectrum.

Very elaborate paint schemes on both bodies.
