Help identifying these
Fabrux replied to IceMan Collections's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
5 - Looks an awful lot like a 66-67 Charger roof. 10 - Studebaker roof, maybe? 12 - Silhouette trailer? 14 - AMT '65 Chevelle wagon/El Camino -
Nothing quite like driving in the passing lane and seeing your wheel go by!

From what I've been told, a good thinner for Vallejo paints is glass cleaner (Windex etc).

1980 Dodge W200
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It will be getting a big block, not sure where from yet. Don't really like the kit's engine as it is a bit of a mish-mash. I'm hoping the 440 from a Revell 69 Charger will fit the bill with some updating. -
Progress! I've gotten the rear bumper and lower rear quarter panels in place, as well as the driver's side lower body. Apologies for the pictures; it's dark out. I've gone back and filled in the holes for the rearview mirrors as well as levelled out the trunk lid. The donor body had the luggage rack glued on; it will not be going back on. I've also applied my goo on the inside of the body along all the seams, hopefully to fill in the little hairline cracks and add strength. The body is warped a bit; I'm hoping I can work it out.

Okay, wow....I last did anything with this over three years ago! I had the idea to build an SVO convertible but wasn't happy with the convertible body I started using as it had failed paint job on it that just wouldn't come off. I stashed the project away in a box, waiting to get another convertible body. Fast forward three years and two moves and I finally managed to grab a built-up convertible kit for $2. My body work skills have advanced some since then so I'm hopeful I can pull this conversion off this time. I started with the easiest part: the nose. I got the wheel wells lined up this time, something I couldn't quite get last time. As you can tell from these pictures, the windshield frame from the built-up broke during disassembly, so I had to graft on the frame from the other body. Hopefully my next update will be before 2018...!

After moving and finally getting my new model room all set up, I figured I'd get back to work on a project that I've been noodling on since March. Last fall I picked up a few of the MPC Dodge fourth generation D/W-series pickups and have been figuring out what to build with them, as I tend to gravitate towards options that were not kitted and/or oddball factory options. So, the first build of many will be this 1980 Dodge W200. I am using the cab from the Firefighter issue along with the kit bed and another Lil' Red Express bed to make my favourite bed option, the long bed Utiline. I added 18 scale inches to the front of the bed and six scale inches to the back. The chassis, interior, suspension, and wheels are from a 1975 issue of the tooling. I don't have much so far, but I do have the bed spliced together. I plan on narrowing the axles sufficiently to tuck the wheels in under the fenders where they should be. Engine will be an RB V8, probably sourced from an AMT 71 Charger as the kit's engine is quite the hodge-podge of parts.

Interesting LS6 El Camino...

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that finds the 1970 model year the ugliest of Chevelles/El Caminos... -
This is the one you're looking for:

AMT Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 conversion?
Fabrux replied to Atmobil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You are much better off adapting the MPC Bronco suspension. It is quite detailed and has a high parts count. The Monogram front suspension is all one piece and has the typical open top differential. -

Yikes! I never realized the difference in attachment points between North American and European trailers! That's a huge gap ahead of the lead trailer. -
1980 Datsun 720 Take Two

The tires were done using a new trick I learned. I have a little piece of stamping rubber glued to a piece of styrene rod. I apply Vallejo white paint to the rubber and stamp the raised letters on the tires. This gets the paint on the letters and nothing else if you're careful with it. -

Hey Ken, I'd love to make it to the show but unfortunately it looks like I'm going to be moving that weekend. Plus, its my daughter's birthday! -

Actually I dare say they start at Halifax. Get them shipped over to the port there, drive through NS and NB and head through Maine to the US. I see all sorts of European campers on the roads here. -

Yeah, I'm not super happy with how the license plate turned out. I had wanted to recess it farther toward the frame but the step bumper interferes. Also, the kit's plat mount is super thick. I think I will end up re-doing it with some thinner styrene and a different plate. -
Another 1980 Datsun 720

I finally finished this one up. I started a new job right after the last update and haven't had much spare time as a result. Plus, I was starting to get bogged down with trying to replicate the added detail I put on the Desert Rat so I took a step back and finished it up as is. I may go back and fiddle with it later on, but it is done for now. Under Glass thread here. Tanks for looking. -

That particular setup hauls wood chips for the pulp and paper mill here in Saint John. But, the company is also a general dry goods hauler so they have lots of reefer trailers as well. -

I have no idea how common these rigs are elsewhere, but I see these all the time: The most common setup around here, however, is a B-train tanker. There is a potash mine about 45 minutes from here that has a major water infiltration problem and they are trucking brine out of there to the bay here. One comes up the off-ramp behind my neighbourhood about every 20 minutes or so. In fact, one of them took a turn too fast yesterday and flipped. I can't find any good pictures right now of the setup, but if you do an image search for Seaboard/Harmac you'll get an idea of their rigs. -
The new Freightliner?

That's cool, I like it. Lots of really good ideas that could make it to production.
