Bullet Bird Mild Custom ('62 Thunderbird)
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've made a bit more progress! We had very nice weather today, so I was able to get this thing in the brown paint. I sprayed one coat of gold, three coats of brown, and two coats of clear, all today. These two pics are outside....... I've also got the fiddly suspension done, it's up on it's wheels now...... I've got to wait a few days before I can polish it........ In that time I can decide if I really want to attempt a panel paint job. I had such a good day as far as painting goes, and I don't want to tempt fate and screw something up..... That's what I have for now! Please comment freely....... -
That really did come together, didn't it! The foil especially pops against that blue nicely.......

My continually updated thread with fresh HOT ROD mock ups.
JollySipper replied to chris chabre's topic in WIP: Model Cars
These all look really good, Chris man..... It's very important to write down what all your visions for each kit are. If you're like me, you forget what all you wanted to accomplish! -
Today marks 10 years that I've been on the forum...... What pleases me is that not only has my building improved, but I've made some cool friends here...... Thanks for letting me be here, it's the best forum anywhere!

Bullet Bird Mild Custom ('62 Thunderbird)
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You've heard of Larry Watson, I'm sure.... He pretty much started the "panel" paint job trend..... Here's the engine for this. Also, I've fitted the built interior into the body...... Now I can move on to the suspension, and start painting this thing! Thanks for looking in, guys....... comment freely. -

I'm using the gold as a base coat..... I'm gonna try to mask what I want to stay gold on the body, then spray the brown. I'll be going for a Watson style paint job....... -

So, I finally got the gold paint that's been such a struggle to find... To see how it's gonna look, I painted the chassis.... With the gold as a highlight on the body, I think it's gonna turn out okay... -

Bill, I like how this one looks........ It even looks good in blue. -
Favorite Obscure or Discovered Music Album
JollySipper replied to afx's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Obscure one for you, Gabby LaLa..... Les Claypool produced this album for her, and even plays percussion and bass on it. She was a member of his 'Fancy Band"..... -

Seeing how much material you had to remove, I should go ahead and test fit mine before I get too much further along..... -

JollySipper replied to rightrudder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have a plan as to how I'll fit the interior/chassis into the body....... I want to build up the interior onto the chassis without the engine or suspension, then test fit that. I haven't painted the body, yet, so I can remove any material that needs it from the body. Then I'll finish assembling the guts and paint the body..... Hopefully it will work out without much drama.... -

Bullet Bird Mild Custom ('62 Thunderbird)
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I did finally find some underside pics of an over restored one online, the front subframe was body color. There's an engine cradle that's black along with the suspension....... I just ordered some gold paint for this! Should be here by week's end. Finally found some on Amazon..... -
That's a striking model! It has a very nice presence about it.....

JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, guys.... I can't seem to find any gold paint anywhere! If I'm still gonna do a panel paint job on this, it will have to be with these two colors. The bronze is what I used on the 5 window I recently finished, the brown is the Cordova brown I showed earlier. I put down the bronze first....... What do you guys think? I'm on the fence now about even doing the panel job, I may just paint it solid brown. -

Thanks, Bill man! The 'spinners' are from the Monogram '53 Chevy lowrider...... As far as the kit, it's right up there with the '60 Starliner as far as details go. My example has/had a lot of flash, tho...... -

THAT is a nice car...... I'm guessing it has the 390 engine? Most likely I'll be using the custom tail lights for this build...... If I was to use the factory ones, I would get some silver acrylic craft paint. They rinse cleanly until dry, so any mistakes could be cleaned with water.... -
Dreaded Orange Peel
JollySipper replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mike, man, I like DupliColor perfect match clear. I make close, fast passes with the spray can and hardly ever get any peel in it.... As long as your primer works with the clear, you shouldn't have much issue. The craft paints don't make a very good barrier coat...
