What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
PatW replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very little. As we don't have any LHS type shops here much anymore in the UK, if you want to buy a paint spray can for example they cost around £5.95 - £6.25 the shipping cost is about the same! So as a pensioner I can't afford that so I'm looking at chucking it in or building what models I have left without any painting. Talking about painting it's something I enjoyed very much as a youngest, one of the subjects I 'majored in' at school. I've bought some kit, brushes/paper/watercolour pack etc so will start that up soon. I may just get a market stall and sell off what models I have left! Drastic after 60+ years of kit making but prices to buy paint are too high. -
I think I'm done now with model building after 60+ years. The main reason is that as we have very few LHS type shops here in the UK that a spray can is around £6 and the postage/shipping is a few pence cheaper and as a pensioner I can't afford that. Oh I've just had a thought! I can build the models I have left in bare plastic and no paint at all, now that's an idea! I've bought some watercolours in trays/brushes/acrylics/paper and a canvas pad so will start painting soon and see if I'm any good. I did it before, some years ago, but it's so much cheaper! UPDATE, 08.01.22- two new watercolour packs with brushes are on their way so I should be producing paintings soon!

Yesterday driving past our local BP station and shop a 1950's Buick, low, a lot of chrome, a rusty looking roof and a low rumble! Very, very rare here in the UK! -
Drive By Wire In 1958
PatW replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Our government here in the UK are about to completely ban mobile phones in all vehicles, because so many people have been badly injured or killed by drivers using them and causing accidents. What they should have in vehicles are the electronics to stop all phone use once the ignition is switched on. We see so many near misses by ignorant drivers each day. We have a first school not far from us, and so many parents are seen either when they have the children in the car or after they have dropped them off not only reading they're phones or texting as they drive away from the school each day. We are looking at placing camera's to stop speeding and photograph each car to catch them and hopefully cancel their driving licences. -

Drive By Wire In 1958
PatW replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If self-drive cars come in, I stop driving, but walking is going to be dangerous as well, because if any of them go haywire you could get run over as well! I see lots of accidents here in the UK is caused by people with automatic cars putting them into the wrong gear, reverse when they want to go forwards and forwards when they should be going back! Very dangerous if your in a tall multi-story car park. -
Thanks peteski. steveracer, the wheels are the kit ones stripped of chrome laid on a sheet of thin plasticard drawn round and cut out plus some 1930's de-chromed hub caps.
-
Yes, you are so right! I wasn't quite sure how it would look until I put it all together.
-
As it came in drab black I needed to brighten it up! But I not sure if I have done. There is a unit over the back wheels which I presume is the electric motor, but everything else covers it up

A bit more on the BMW I-8.. Yes quite a bit more. I'm not posing the doors open as I haven't enough room in my display cabinet. Slide the wheels out pop the tyres off clean up the wheels and add a bit more paint. Glass to go in, then doors etc. -

While we were taking a few days off at the coast, a brand new Ford Mustang. Good that they now supply them with right-hand drive. -
I like the resin wheels & tyres, I've looked on the web but can't find their site.

A Revell BMW I-8 Electric, on my shelf for about 12 or more months. Realised that I hadn't started because to was moulded in dreadful black like a funeral car, so had to paint it. It must be some sort of camo! -
Thanks again David for setting me on the right track of actually doing something about it.

Right.. Ah Ah! Well said afx thank you so much!

I notice that when I transfer my photo's from Fotki they are far smaller than others that are posted on here although on my pictures folder they fit the screen of my PC. Some I notice fill the space when answering a post. Mine seem to be about 1/12" to 2" square and others comment that mine are so small, so how can I enlarge them to fit the space available please?

Hi Scott, We are about 160miles south of Manchester. IN Buckinghamshire. So about 20 miles east of Oxford and near the new town of Milton Keynes, renowned for a grid road system and the largest number road roundabouts in any town/city.
