Chevy Vegas were shipped vertically
Zarana-X replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It seems like the expense of purpose built boxcars, and the extra hassle & time of loading and unloading would outweight the "savings". Also seems like a high risk for catastrophy. -
Fantastic work on both of them. The paint is excellent.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Zarana-X replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
That Merc is really cool. The plow looks brutal. Your painting seems to be improving with each build. -
This whole scene is incredibly life-like. From the build pictures, I wasn't sure if the street was wet from you working on it, or that was the water effect you were going for.
-
Nice job! I'm in the middle of that same kit. I'm kinda worried about the taillights. Yours look great.
-
It would look great in any of those colours. The Mini lends itself to green very well, though. The wheels are kinda oversized, but at least they're not 24" dubs... The wire spoked wheel looks great on classic British cars.

1978 Macho Trans Am
Zarana-X replied to LoudFordPypes's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know a guy in Oklahoma who makes reproduction and custom graphics. Specializing in Trans Ams & Camaros. http://fourthcircledesigns.com/ That's a fairly obscure TA, so they might be able to make the graphics. You can contact them directly: http://fourthcircledesigns.com/contact_us.php Also on Facetube: https://www.facebook.com/fourthcircledesignsllc D'oh! I just saw that this was a moved topic. I found it in General, so thought you might be working on a real automobile..... -
You guys are jsut showing off, now. I got the Datsun repainted two toen blue and white. Buying some Tamiya masking tape was a good move. It's not perfect, mostly due to my fault, but I can work with it.

Beautiful work! love these cars.

I'm gusssing he's not done with it yet, cause his work so far has been spot on, but yeah. The tins between the engine and heat exchangers should be a semi gloss black. Along with the valve covers, and the oil drain plate. The heat exchangers should be semi gloss/flat grey, probably between light and dark ghost grey. The engine block is magnesium, while the transmission is aluminum. Magnesium is this weird silver-grey with a yellowish tinge.

Aoishima kits are super! Imai is a mixed bag. When Imai went out of business, other companies bought up their molds. That body is kinda wonky. The windshield looks like a Super, but the front end does not have the telltale curvature at the bottom of the fenders and hood. 71 & 72 Superbeetles (1302) had a flat windshield, just like a standard Beetle. 73-79 Superbeetles (1303) had the curved windshield, which caused the fresh air vents to be moved from the hood, to the front of the windshield. All Superbeetles have an elongated hood and front fenders that curve under the body. The front valence is rounded and most have vents to accommodate an AC cooler. The boxy bumpers are shared by all Beetles, regardless. 68-73 had larger bumpers that replaced the old style. 74 and up have even larger bumpers with an impact absorbtion system. The taillights are also shared by both Beetles. 68-70 had small tombstone shaped taillights, then larger ones for 71-72. 1973 introduced the huge round taillights nicknamed elephant's foot. The rear fenders were also changed to accommodate the big round lights.

The wheels were his choice, I preferred the wire spoked wheels. I'm thinking the excessive orange peel (clearcoat) may be from improperly washing the body after the blue basecoat was polished.

Yeah, that's an old Imai motorized kit. The old Revell kit's are a nightmare of heavy mold lines, seams and flash. the New Revell kits are good, and they have a Cabriolet. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76805

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Zarana-X replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Finished the .30 machine gun, and thought better of the red wheels. Gonna fab a push bar and some weathering and it'll be done. Oh, and I lost the side marker lights, but it looks good without them... -
This is the current Monogram Shelby Cobra road car. I built this for my son. He got it for Christmas, and he's never even touched a kit before. This is a fine enough kit, but it's not something you throw at a first timer to make them cry in frustration (tiny parts, windows & stripes, *cough*). I showed him how to read the instructions, test fit and remove parts from the sprue without ruining them. He also got some military armor kits, he's gonna work on those, as it would be easier to fix mistakes without making them look like a horrible mess. Its not perfect, more orange peel than I would've liked, but its good.

Edited for clarification. Good job on the car!

Got some Easy-Off and finally got the paint stripped. Repainted the white base coat. I built the grille, and while thinking about how Revell's old clear, no detail headlight lenses suck, I dropped one. Looked for it for about 20 minutes, then remembered a set from a Monogram Roadrunner I had and used thsoe instead. Looks great. Found the missing lens this morning.

This is Awesome! Love it. Your paint and photography are fantastic. Parents had a '72 growing up, love these cars! I have the gran prix Hasegawa kit, haven't started it, yet.

Fujimi Mad Police model kits. Post Apocalyptic Police!
Zarana-X replied to Zarana-X's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here are some of the only pics I've been able to find of the actual Farcon kit, asembled. You can get a good look at the 1/4 windows and the rear of the car. The gun used looks nothing like what is pictured with the kit. Looks like they used a recoiless rifle from an Army jeep or something. My Z10- 38 replies

Classic Japanese sports GT duo, Hasegawa 1/24
Zarana-X replied to Matt Bacon's topic in WIP: Model Cars
According to Wikipedia: Fairlady ZG The Japan-only HS30-H Nissan Fairlady ZG was released in Japan in October 1971 to homologate the 240Z for Group 4 racing. Differences between the Fairlady ZG and an export market Datsun 240Z include an extended fiberglass ‘aero-dyna’ nose, wider over-fenders riveted to the body, a rear spoiler, acrylic glass headlight covers and fender-mounted rear-view mirrors. The Fairlady ZG was available in three colours: Grande Prix Red, Grande Prix White and Grande Prix Maroon. The "G" in Fairlady ZG stands for "Grande." Although the ZG was not sold in the USA and was never sold outside Japan, in order for it to be eligible for competition in the U.S., Nissan sold the nose kit as a dealer's option which is known as the "G-nose". With the nose added, these 240Zs are often referred to as 240ZGs, outside of Japan. I don't care for that color, but it is beautifully done, and looks just like the one used in Gran Tourismo.- 31 replies
