  1. This is really cool. Way to show off your skills. My little guy love heavy equipment - he would loose his mind over this.
  2. Same here. I've even gone as far as to use it directly on bare plastic with little to no issues. Don't think that the DupilColor paint available in Canada is much different formula than what is sold in the USA, but I could be wrong. I know that water based paint is now industry standard in body shops, as imposed by government regulations. Sure, its a little more expensive per can, but some of the best rattle can paint jobs I've done have been using the Duplicolor line. This one was done with DupliColor Honda Nighthawk black over DupliColor dark grey etching primer: Lastly, I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the issues happening with Duplicolor were on newer Revell/Monogram kits. Somethign to do with the styrene chemical composition. Maybe that is the key factor, or I'm just making this up. I had an issue on a few kits last year, but I wrote it off as using cheap, discount, no-name primer in lieu of Duplicolor to save a few bucks. Don't recall having an issue after switching back to DupliColor etching primer. Needless to say - TEST FIRST!
  3. I believe that the lights pictured are the ones sold by The Parts Box in Australia. I’ve ordered from them many times. Understand your conundrum completely – don’t care for the minimum order value or the S&H charges myself, but they offer decent quality parts. Would not have any concerns with ordering from them again. My experience is an average 2-3 weeks from order. I would say that is average (or better) than most domestic resin parts suppliers I’ve dealt. You could buy the same part from eBay seller “a-modeler”. Their listing is a little higher (eBay fees?) than The Parts Box, but at least there is no minimum order value/quantity. Never tried the Bic/Sharpie cap conversion, but I will give it a try one day when I feel more ambitious. Wort case, I do have an extra set of these headlights in my parts stash. Could be convinced to part with them for the right trade lol.
  4. Not sure what it is, but looks like potential. Are those white metal parts, or chrome plated?
  5. Very nice – your nephew must have been ecstatic! I know my little ones get excited whenever I incorporate one of their suggestions into my builds
  6. VERY cool project. There is an out of commission wrecker around the corner from me that matches this kit perfectly - right down to the boom. Been wanting to do something similar to the 1:1 version for a while. The owner is a bit of a hoarder and won't sell it, even though the property is for sale and he has nowhere else to store it. I'll wear him down one of these days... Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through your build!
  7. Awesome! can't tell you how many C3 Corvettes I've seen in this state. Definitely nailed the look.
  8. Love it!
  9. Glad to see you stick with the resin body-the results were worth it
  10. Nice work so far. Like it a lot. Looks like you lucked out on your body. the front clip on the one I received looked like it was mismatched to the body. Had to fabricate my own. Not my typical experience from Jimmy. Certainly helps the build when everything works together. Keep up the good work ??
  11. guess it depends on your skill level/situation. Perhaps you are a more skilled builder than I am, but there are some kits that require the body to be glued to the chassis. Why not use that to your advantage? Anyways, there have been several solutions offered. It's nearly impossible for one to solve all problems. Poor Brian will have to try the solution that he's most comfortable with.
  12. Good choice ??
  13. Hey Dennis - how's the progress on the truck?
  14. IF you knew the people I had to deal with in a day, you wouldn't be so hard on yourself!
  15. For the most part, I've been lucky on warped bodies. Never tired the hot water bath, but I have a few candidates in my collection that weill need it. For minor adjustments, I've been able to get by with using CA glue to secure the underside of the body to the attachment points on teh chassis. Assuming the chassis is rigid enough to pull the body straight, of course. On occasion, I've even modified the suspension and/or the wheel attachments points to compensate. Again - all depends on where and how bad the issue is. Good luck - we feel your pain!
  16. I remember watching this car race back in the day on the TNN network as a kid. Very nice execution on the build!
  17. Very nice - kinda inspires me to get mine off the shelf and build it! He colors look bang on - any more pics under the hood or of the chassis?
  18. I really like the "reverse creamsicle" paint scheme you have going on
  19. I like it. love the sharp but simple contrast of the silver and black
  20. Looks perfect! Got any close up pics of the engine?
  21. Very nice! A friend of mine back in the day inherited a "survivor" nearly identical to the reference pic posted. Had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't the same car!
