Due to the tornado which hit the Ottawa area on Friday, September 21st, we have postponed the contest until Saturday, September 29. The location and times will remain the same. We were hoping that the power would be restored before the start of the show, but the venue would not allow us to have the show without electricity (completely understandable). Apologies to all who came to attend, and we hope to see you in seven days' time.

While you are massaging the fit of the hood, you may want to scrounge for some headlight bezels from an AMT '49 or '50 Ford. The headlight assemblies in the Chevy kit leave much to be desired, IMO.

Vintage Racing Miniatures has a white/blue stripe set for the GT350R. The car they are replicating ran in the 24 Hours of LeMans. I have the decals in my collection, so I can confirm they exist. Hope this helps in your search.

Getting really glued in windows out
64Comet404 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have used CA de-bonder to break stubborn glue bonds, but it will affect clear plastic if it is left on too long. If you can get a fresh set of windows, it may be the best way to go. -
Born and raised in Nepean, Ontario, then moved to Kanata, Mississauga, North York, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Perth (twice) and Ottawa. Apart from a year spent at grad school in New York, I'm a one province man.

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
64Comet404 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Went in with a small list, and didn't get any of it. I would put an item in my cart, go for the next item, and my previous item would be listed as Out of Stock. I'm used to being sniped on eBay bids, but not on a website! -
The first issue of the Thunderbolt was molded in maroon (Tasca Ford) or orange (Gas Ronda). BTW, really nice job on the Thunderbolt. Are you planning to use the kit decals, or do you have an aftermarket source?

It's a nice kit, with a beautifully moulded chassis and running gear but I can't see picking one up until Round 2 fixes the sweep of the rear side windows. It's a small point in the grand scheme of things, but that little issue throws off the looks of the car, IMHO.

Only a few days to go until the show. The show is held on Sunday, August 19th, 2018, from 9:00-4:00 Location: Pere Arthur Guertin Community Centre, 16 Rue Beriault, Gatineau (Hull), Quebec (located right across the river from Ottawa, Ontario). I found one other b/w picture of the car, in the Super Stock book by Larry Davis. It's a front 3/4 shot of the car at the '65 NHRA Spring nationals. No additional info on the markings, but it does show the car ran a single windshield wiper, and doesn't seem to have a dash mounted tach.

The Pro Stock kits went through some chassis an engine changes over the years, so older issues can be more expensive to find. The best deals I have found for the earlier issues are the "Pro Street" reissues from the 1980's. You have to put up with the gold plating, but at least you get the Lenco transmissions and BBC heads with Moroso valve covers for the GM cars, and the original '83-'86 T-Bird body for the Fords.

AMT '65 Buick Riviera George Barris News
64Comet404 replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Shatner's Vette was a '64, if I recall the information from Shatner's book on Star Trek correctly. The pic in the book shows the car running steelies with dog dishes. -
Porsche Outlaws & Hot Rods

Amen to that. I loved the ride and handling of my 944, but head gasket and water pump replacement on a semi-regular basis gets old rather fast. Mind you, I drove a late-model C6 Corvette recently, and the handling, though heavier, reminded me of the feel of my old 944. -
I have started to work on the Moebius California Flash Belvedere, and I have been looking for information on how to make it more accurate. I know the dashboard needs to be modified, and the battery tray and washer bottle location need to be filled, but are there other mods which should be done? I also plan to build it as a Sox and Martin car, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of pics of the S/S version. Does anybody have any info they could share? Thanks!

black under chrome?
64Comet404 replied to Lizard Racing's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find that many Tamiya kits have black plastic underneath their plating, and I have also found it on older AMT and Monogram kits.. Revell, back in their California days, used to use a lot of clear plastic for the chrome. JoHan used reground plastic for some of their chrome, and I have bumpers which have several different colours present. -
Need help ID'ing Fred Cady decal

That's the one! I didn't have the reference sheet with it, so I didn't know if it was a stripe set or for a complete car. Thank you for getting back to me! -
I'm currently going through my decals, and have come across a sheet I can't identify, but it looks vaguely familiar. The sheet number is #510, and it has a number of stripes, plus a couple of older California plates (yellow/black ALU 023 and black/yellow PIY699). Any help in identifying it is appreciated. TIA.

The only stock 351 Cleveland I know about is in the R/M '70 Mustang Mach 1 kit. Otherwise, the NASCAR kits are a good choice.

I recently picked up a Revell Fel-Pro ASA Thunderbird, and I would like to see if there are any aftermarket decals available for these cars. I haven't owned one of these kits in 20 years, and had forgotten how much detail these kits had for the era. The original decals look like they will work, but I like to be prepared. TIA

Found this kit at my LHS last night. I have been looking for one (either metal bodied or plastic) for a long time, but could never find one.

This model kit was acquired from an estate sale held at our local IPMS chapter. I rarely build aircraft smaller than 1/72, but I figured it would make a nice change of pace. Everything fit together nicely, but the size of the kit meant that many of the parts were fragile. I have tidied up some of the flaws since I photographed the model, but I am calling it finished...my first (and last) 1/144 scale WW II fighter aircraft!

I had a problem earlier with access, received the error message while browsing the site. Glad to see that it has gone away. -
Story of Jo Han models.

Interesting read. There was one of those Dynaflow models still on the shelves in Auto Shop when I was in high school. -
I had to think about it, because I have a number of desirable older kits in the collection. For the sheer "Holy @#*& !!!" factor, the unbuilt Monogram Futurista and the restorable UncertainT are definitely at the head of the class. All of my kits were bought with the intention of building, so it's a matter of living until the age of 150 in order to complete the builds.
