  1. And in a stunning bit of historical trivia about cars and car models, one of Ira Wilson's sons was Asa 'Ace' Wilson, who was the owner of Royal Pontiac! According to some stories, when Ace died, Ira refused to sell the dealership to Jim Wangers because Wangers was Jewish.
  2. I think the only time the stock-height top was included was the original issue. After that, the mods were made to bring out the Milner Deuce.
  3. The 1979 Mustang still had the 5 Litre (302 c.i.) engine, while the 255 (4.2 L) was introduced for the 1980 model year. Luckily for modellers, the 221/255/260/289/302 Windsor engines all have the same external dimensions. Agree with you on the revisions needed for the 87-88 Mustang kits.
  4. The slots in the '57 Thunderbird aren't bad, but if you have the chance check out the wire wheels in the '55 T-Bird! That's a tooling insert Round2 should dig out of storage.
  5. Really nice, always wanted the issue of this kit with the Kenny Roberts figure!
  6. I have had a couple of them over the years. The MPC 'Vettes have decent detail (much more refined than the 1:16 AMT kits). The only drawback I recall was the dated rolling stock for the custom versions, but plenty of parts to rectify that issue.
  7. I received my overseas order for aftermarket R8 Gordini parts today. It's nice to have extra detail, but I had forgotten how pungent the odour of European casting resins can be. If I went by smell, I would swear the resin was made from mothballs! ?
  8. Great job on the Fiero! I almost bought one similar to the model (6 cyl/5 speed, but a SE), but the clutch was an ON/OFF switch! Surprised the Tamiya Clear reactivated the paint. I've heard so many positive reviews about Hycote and Halfords sprays over the years that I thought they were formulated with plastic models in mind! Vauxhalls? We have wiped those from our collective minds over here. The word "Firenza" (Viva HC) has been known to cause strokes and seizures when mentioned to elderly Canadians...
  9. The original kit never had the side exhaust; that was a detail the builder had to add. I haven't bought the second version of the kit (still have a few of the originals), but sounds like there are no major changes.
  10. X2. Definitely a case where the reissue is better than the original.
  11. I picked up the '71 Mustang kit yesterday, and it looks fantastic! Now all I need to do is wait for the other versions to arrive, so I can build a close replica of my HS ride. Any idea when the next versions will be arriving?
  12. The return of AMRO's (Association de Modeles Reduits de l'Outauais) Annual Model Car Contest! This will be the first AMRO contest since 2019. Date: August 20, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM Location: Centre communautaire Pere Arthur Guertin (Pere Arthur Guertin Community Centre), 16 Rue Beriault, Gatineau (Hull), Quebec (across the river from Ottawa, Ontario) Theme category: The Seventies Vendor spaces available. For further details, contact Nicholas Cheslock at (819)598-2408 or Cheslock55@gmail.com Further information available on Facebook: search "AMROmodelclub"
  13. What are the differences between the 2015 (NuNu) and the 2019 cars? Bodywork? I have one of the NuNu kits already, but if the Meng kit is different enough in appearance, I could be persuaded...
  14. Remove the hood decal and add a hardtop and a set of dog dishes with beauty rings, and that would be my High School ride!
  15. I will probably get the Kia Brisa when it becomes available here. I wouldn't mind having a model of the Kia I drive every day, but the market for that kit is probably...me!
  16. Those Classic Airframes 1:48 kits were a revelation back when they first came out, but all that resin combined with few locating pins made me happy I disposed of them when I did. I wouldn't mind seeing a new tool of a Fairey Battle, though. The JoHan Gold Cup classic series kits are some of the easier JoHan kits to find in the used market. The designers did a great job on the Mercedes and Cadillac kits, but wish they would have continued the series beyond the Chrysler Turbine.
  17. What be this "look at the instructions a second time" of which you speak? ?
  18. There are some good aftermarket detailing pieces for this kit, including resin and decals, on some European sites. I have one in the stash waiting to be built as a street version.
  19. They were imported by Craft-Master, which also distributed MPC kits back in the 1960s. MPC also had a few Airfix kits in their boxes, but I don't know if the MGB was one of those kits.
  20. You, Sir, are a glutton for punishment! Vacforms are miserable critters to build, but you have done this one justice.
  21. Jim Rogers already has a conversion set available for the Garage 56 car. Includes the winglets, mirrors, quarter windows, and other bits. He can be contacted at jim@salvino.us. No decals yet, but one of the companies is bound to make them soon.
  22. The best thing to do is to read this section, and ask questions if you are unsure about the provenance of a particular model. Scalemates is also a good source of info, but the information is user-inputted so it can be "apocryphal, or wildly inaccurate" (to borrow a phrase...)
  23. I'm pretty sure the '32 Coupe was reissued in the Custom Rides series, with the big tires and rims.
  24. I checked my original 1964 Mercury annual kit, and guess what? There is a sink mark in the passenger side fender! You can't win for trying...
