Bill, you are a bit compulsive about most things needing to be correct. That is why you have your screen ID name. But that is also why I like seeing your WIP pics, both during and completed.

I think the combo kits would be a great idea. They did it with the '69 Torino, '69 Barracuda and a third car I cannot recall right now. Plus they did a 3 vehicle Street Rod set. Now those were all sets before Round2, but the idea could be expanded to AMT's T's and their '32 Fords. While I myself may prefer Revell's '32's, they do not have all the body options AMT does. And I have yet to try some of the AMT bodies on the Revell chassis. Too many other projects going on, like most people! But AMT could use a really good couple of options. The only AMT kits I have bought in the last 5 years are the rebranded Lindberg kits I could not get when they were out. As far as other reissues, no reason to buy them when you already have as many as you will need. Now give me some revised tools, like the '66 Nova to a '67 (Street Machine version so minimal tooling costs) and a '66 Malibu Street Machine (again Street Machine to avoid the costs of a Replica Stock interior tooling). Both of these use existing tooling to avoid totally new tooling. I am sure there are others that could be done the same way, but these two would make me spend my funds. Are you reading this Round2?? Well I have posted my thoughts and ideas. We will have to see if anyone agrees or more importantly if any of the manufacture personnel promote it to their bosses!

Call me confused, but with the subject being the AMT '32 Phaeton and '27 T's, why all of the posts about the Monogram, the Revell and even the Aurora '32's? What did I miss here??

1971-1972 442 ram air hood

I wish I had the funds to buy the Revell kit just for the resin figure and could turn around and sell the rest of the kit. I am getting too many other kits that I need to get busy and build. Now if somebody else is just the opposite, let me know if you want to trade or ?? for the figure alone!! -
The Hobby Lobby near me does scan items at checkout. I have seen only one other store that scans items, so their system is easy to set prices for each store.

Luckily I only paid about half of that at the local dealer. Got a nice 4-wheel utility vehicle too.

For anyone that does want an actual mower, Kubota made a 1/24th scale die-cast rider that was nice for its size. They actually did a few 1/24th scale pieces.

Anyone make a resin 1 ton dump bed

Charles (chariots of fire), I sure wish I lived a whole lot closer to you. I would invite you over for a steak dinner in an exchange for an hour of lessons from you. I would probably advance my skills more in that hour than I have in the rest of my almost sixty years of living! Your ideas make some seemingly complex projects turn into something routine (at least with your skill set). But they do make me try things I might be reluctant to without the instructions you provide in your WIP posts. -
I wish I could remember who did a resin version of the Grand Sport Roadster. I thought I had it bookmarked, but either I didn't have, or accidently deleted it. So if anybody remembers please send me a message reminder. I have some extra kits for the conversion. Now if I could figure out how to get the photo-etch reproduced too! I always seem to lose a piece, usually the last one that there is never anything else close to being able to "cover" the original I lost!

Ben, please don't take this the wrong way, but I will guess that you are old enough to have seen previous issues of this kit. And since there is no mention of any new parts, why would you think there would be new parts tooled up? And go back to the posts regarding AMT's use of 1:1cars for their box art. Did you expect a real car in the box? After all, you did say what is shown on the box is what should be in it! Be that as it may, I do agree with you about the BBS wheels in the two kits you mentioned. I was lucky enough to see both kits open to know the wheels were not in those two. I was more disappointed in one of the Ford pickup kits that had directional wheels all going the same direction. So two wheels were right and two were backwards. Monogram Super Swampers that had directional tread, two right two backwards. Monogram wrinkle wall slicks (and other manufacturers) one the right direction and one the wrong direction. The list could go on. The manufactures may not get everything right, but which would you rather have (especially with today's aftermarket) a kit with what most consider a minor flaw, or no kits at all because they try to fix every flaw and go bankrupt in the process? The molds are made by humans and I have yet to meet a perfect human. I hope you noticed I did say minor flaws. Everyone's definition of minor could be different. Remember the fiasco when Revell/Monogram released their Pro Modeler Charger that looked like it had been chopped several inches? That flaw was obvious to anybody who knew about the car and as such was not minor. But they did correct it. So keep an eye out for major flaws and worry about the minor flaws a bit less. Ben, also keep an eye out for posts by Casey, among others, that post pics of many of the new and reissued kits contents, and Revell's postings of instructions. It can help with what you might purchase. I know of one kit I really was interested in until I saw it was right hand drive only and the dash would take more work than I wanted to do.

Joe Z, you said that Testor's bought IMC, which is true. However the later incarnation of the company that had those same initials had a different corporate name (Illinois Model Company) that everybody just shortened to IMC. Hence the confusion on the names. And with the later IMC announcing plans to reissue two surviving molds from Jo-han (since verified not to be possible) people got even more confused and were reluctant to place orders at the trade show where it was announced. I was there and they did have flyers and built ups at the trade show. They acknowledged that the built ups were original Jo-han kits, but said they had bought the rights for those two kits and were seeing if any other tools could be salvaged. The nearest they came was the '59 Rambler Wagon. And then one of the principles passed away and he was unfortunately also the money man, both real and accounting. I was really hoping they would be able to make a good deal out of their announcement, but alas they never even got started. But to say Testor's owned the IMC name (albeit shortened to its initials) is like saying everybody with the initials J.Z. for example, has the same name as you. Testor's owns the rights to Industry Motive Corporation, but not the rights to Illinois Model Company.

Excited about reissued '84 Pro Stock Camaro !!
socal76 replied to gbdolfans's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I should have sold the four original Camaro's I have that are still sealed (2 of each) so I could have gotten a few other kits I would like to get. I have enough of them to do most of the R&M cars I have decals for, plus a few more for other decal versions. Oh well, that's what you get for waiting until your broken bones heal! LOL If I had been able to dig put the box those kits were stored in I might have been able to do some trading for some of the Moebius kits I need. But since this is the second of the two early Camaros to be reissued, the trade value is now much less than the Moebius kits. Now I guess I am really out of luck! -

keep stopping at the end of my builds
socal76 replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aaron, first of all I did not know you built the case you have. It looks kind of impressive! I would think the lighting would make it even more impressive. Time (and funds) may or may not be an issue, but that lighting would just make me want to get it installed and then start refilling the shelves. And your plans for the new case sound even more impressive. Maybe because I do not possess the cabinetry skills you have and I am envious (or maybe even jealous). You will have to show some pics on the progress for both cases. Good luck and show the WIP pics when you can. -
keep stopping at the end of my builds
socal76 replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ummmm, since you said you really worked at finishing builds for your case, and when it got filled you were not as (for lack of a better term that I just cannot think of right now) productive, I think I would simply get another case! And just remember we are nearly humans and will never be perfect. The main goal is to do the best you can at that time. If something does go wrong, don't throw it away. Either go back to fix it or if you really don't want to try to fix it, put it in your parts box, not the trash. Who knows, it could fit into another project and be just what you need. The trick is build for fun, not for perfection. And I am just as guilty as some have said they are. Painting is my problem, but I have been told to just continue to try to get better with each new project, and sooner than you realize, each paint job will probably be better. Again have fun and a relaxing time and forget about it HAS to be perfect. -
Hard to believe Hobby Design will not provide tires for this. Would make what looks to be a great kit already even better.

Random Things Going On
socal76 replied to Casey429's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Question for all that say the frame in the IH is too long. What does anyone think about using the box off an issue of the Ford LN 8000 that has it? Round2 just did the Pepsi (anybody not using the Pepsi decals contact me) and will soon be releasing the Coca Cola version. Just wondering if the box would be good use of the long frame on the IH? -
Casey, a quick question for you. I was looking at your post on the other forum you mentioned, and since I had never seen that version of the '55, I have to ask. Your pic shows the chrome tree but I only saw three wheel covers and nothing as to show where the fourth one should be. Was it just out of range? Because I sure did not see any cut or breakage lines where it would have been. I sure would have gotten one if I had ever seen that version. Especially if I knew some of the so called " Pro Street" parts were in there. Edit: Just went back to that board and sure enough, I flat out missed it the first time I looked! I will put my glasses back on now. LOL

IF, and I did say if, you might get lucky enough to find one of the Scale Productions resin transkits. It has everything you need for converting one of the Tamiya Porsches. There is (hopefully) a chance he may reproduce a limited run of this kit. Go to the website and check out how complete his transkit is (was?). Worth a few minutes to search his site. Lots of interesting items there.

My ID is socal76 because I used to live there and I had to move back to Missouri to take care of my mom and stepdad. Now I have become disabled and simply cannot afford to move back to CA. I did try to be respectful in my post to you. Now it is your turn to do the same and respect that not everyone wants to have to explain their personal life to you. I have had to explain it to friends who have not seen me in years. That I don't mind because they are friends. There are many days I can not even sit at the workbench due to pain issues. And I know of a friend here on the board who had a stroke a few years ago but he still keeps a civil tone. So now that you have had the disrespect to find out such a trivial aspect of my life as to WHY I use the ID I created is there something else you feel I need to explain to you? Other than what I tried to be respectful of posting to you? Oh I did forget to mention why the 76 was also part of my ID. Graduation or enlisting in the USMC, take your pick.

Everything has probably been delayed since Pegasus bought them out. Mobius original owner was having some health issues and wanted the company to continue to grow, so he looked for, and found, a company that wanted the same. At least that is what I have heard and read.

I decided to read all the posts in this thread and it still amazes me that some people still think the model companies have not devoted hundreds of hours already to the real possibilities as to items that could actually make them a profit. Then you have people like regular guy that think their idea will make the model companies untold profits. Well I am sorry regular guy, but your idea for what you want to see as a parts pack does nothing for me nor the subjects I like to build. Custom seats may be what YOU want, and probably some others, but they are useless for my preferred style of builds. Does that mean I am right? No, I am not saying that at all. You have your own opinion and are entitled to it, just as I have my own opinion as to what I would like to see. There is one big difference though. I have sent my suggestions to the companies that have a portion of the tooling already created. And I have also listened to others that have either been in the hobby longer than I have (50 years) or who have either worked in or been involved with those companies by doing test builds, box art, writing, whatever. But LISTEN when they tell you something. I was in kind of the same mental state when I first got exposed to the Aurora 1/16th scale drag racing items. I could not understand why they never came out with anymore. Then I had a person involved tell me why. Well I listened, and now I would like to do some 3-D modeling on my own to add some pieces to the rest of that collection. As to your ideas, why should I expect the model companies to provide what I can get via the aftermarket? Get flocking or embossing powder and create your own carpets. Go to Hanson, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Jo-Anne's and get material to do your own seat covers. The supplies are out there to be had. Just stop to think of the materials some of the people here use to create items they do. Sheet plastic used to create curves, rods, strips, quarter & half rounds for trim, the list could go on. I still marvel at something I saw a handicapped modeler use 50 some years ago to make working roll-up windows. Dave Shuklis used the tearing metal on a box of aluminum foil! So use the creative skills and build! Don't wait for the model companies to provide everything. Build something, even if just out of the box. You might provide some inspiration to somebody just starting out in this great hobby.

Merc-57, I don't think you will ever see many, if any, kits of the big land barges you would like to have as kits being tooled nowadays. The same as I probably will not ever see the wagons I would like to have done. And many of the wagons could be done as stock eliminator cars running today to make such a kit a real 2 in 1. There is just not enough demand for that type of a kit. Sure, everyone would like to have at least 1 kit on their list, but how many of each kit would they sell? I am fairly sure a 2'n'1 kit of a '63-'68 Mopar wagon would sell quite well, since you could build it stock and add a 2nd engine and maybe a 2nd hood and it would sell to both replica stock and drag racers. But can I guarantee such a kit would cover tooling costs? Nope, not unless Moiebus did it, and because they have much of the tooling already done. And Revell could do the same with their '65 and their '66 Impala's. And yes, there are resin bodies for many of these suggestions, but I know several people that are still very reluctant to buy resin or too afraid to try to work with it. But with the land cruisers you would like to see, IMHO there is no way they could sell enough kits to cover the tooling costs, let alone turn a profit. And I am sure some on your list are also on mine, even though I don't build a lot of replica stock models. So the only way I see anything like what you or I want is if somebody here on the board wins Powerball or Mega-Millions and invests some into paying for such tooling to be done. Those are my thoughts and probably a few others as well. Just as I am sure many will agree with yours.

Gerry, I will help you decide. Just send it to me when you start unpacking after the big move. I will gladly build a Nascar version! I mean we really need to help you out. LOL
