To be honest, I kind of doubt Johan was tooling up for a stock 71 Cuda. MPC had the rights for both dealer promos and mass produced kits. Not saying its impossible just very unlikely
-
Thats not going to be easy ,,,,,About the only way I can think of is cut them out of another body. They are not only indented into the body, there is a very thin ridge around them that gets chrome,,,and its REALLLLLY thin . But like I said , finding an original MPC is not that difficult. you just have to be patient . The billboards were an option and its theory that most 71 Cudas didn't get them from the factory installed ,,,at least not near as many cars that have them today

This is only going to depress me , but here goes 1970 Superbird , FY1 yellow with black int, 440 six barrel auto 1969 Daytona 440 auto, R4 red , white interior ( bought and sold it as a project I decided I didnt want to get into at the time) 1970 Road Runner 426 Hemi 4 spd, dark green with black int, 1969 GTX conv 440 , 4 spd, B7 blue with blue int. ( this one is in Louisville Ky as far as I know ) 1970 Challenger 340 auto, B5 blue, blk int, LOADED with AC, sixway seat, power windows, rear sway bar, pwr dic brake, pwr str , etc etc . This one is in Australia now 1970 Superbee 440 six pack 4 spd , B5 blue with blue int. 1970 Coronet 500 conv , 383 auto, it was a junker, but I loved that car and drove it everywhere 1969 Roadrunner 383 4spd , light green with green int 1969 Roadrunner 383 auto, the very 1st car I bought on my own with my own money . The day it pulled out of my driveway when I sold it I knew I had made a big mistake . I actually called the guy that bought it the next day and offered him $1000 more than what he had just paid me for it if he would sell it back to me ( he wouldnt ) Last I heard this car was in Las Vegas NV area 1968 Chrysler 300 conv , 440 TNT car, factory air and cruise control car, pwr steering and pwr disc brakes , console auto , factory black with white power top and a red interior, ( my absolute dream color combo ) I bought this one as a restoration project,,but sadly lost it in a fire where i had it stored . To fricken cool. I like how the whole theme just works ,,especially all the under chassis details . And the turbine idea works really well with the overall shape of a 58 impala back end Although I have a feeling that rear license plate wouldn't last long on acceleration -
Wasnt a fan of the show per say. But it had some cool cars The 57 Chrysler 300 convertible Dennis Farina drove was NICE

Painting small parts, brush or spray?
gtx6970 replied to Bullitt's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What he said, I always spray the body (90% of the times its rattle cans ) and then the interiors main color is sprayed I'll then pick out any secondary colors and/or details with a fine brush . The chassis and engine get spray painted as an assy . If the trans is molded with the engine I'll brush paint it once the engine is dry . If I can get reasonably close to the color I want, I use rattle cans. I just cringe at the idea of dragging out the air brush to paint a model car and try to avoid it if I can , Thats just me. The past few years Ive gotten away from really detailed builds so most of my stuff the chassis gets assembled and spray bombed semi gloss black . Then and only if it can be easily seen once assembled ,,,,, I 'might' go back and pick out some details in silvers or greys (gas tanks , and exhaust tail pipes as an example ) I'm building a pretty detailed Johan Superbird kit now and all the detail / trivial stuff is trying on my patience to work on it. So it takes all my effort to sit down and mess with it sometimes. To be honest there are days I wish I would have just built it box stock ..it would have been done a LOOOOOONG time ago if I had -
a gran coupe is 'grand' idea, best of all.1971 Gran Coupes didnt have fender gills like a Cuda did .

If they're gonna change it, change it right . And they do this version I think it would sell much better than this version -
I think a Munsters Coach is going to the top of my to do pile here very soon . Then I need to find Grandpas Dragula kit to do shortly after.

I thought about using a Johan 71 body to cut up (ive got several ) , but you would still need the fender gills. I picked up an original MPC Stardust cuda funnycar , and they body on it is so much more accurate than the revell 70 is, I was planning to just use this body with all revell 70 innards . But recently picked up an original MPC 71 Builder. They're not that hard to find. And by the time you figure buying a revell 70 and the pieces of a 71 , it makes the original mpc kits are the more reasonable. I think I'm in my mpc builtup for under $50 . The stardust body came in a parts junkyard I bought several years ago

Good deal fellas. Bought mine at least 20 years ago. And am so glad i finally pulled the trigger to build it. Its in my case next to the Lincoln Futura. Pontiac Club De Mer and the Fireball 500. Along with my daughters Batmobile build . makes for a pretty cool display. Im looking for Dodge Thundercharger to go with them

Is the routing of the oil line correct where it enters the block ,,,,,,is this maybe an aftermarket aluminum Hemi block thing ? On a steel 426 street Hemi ( race hemi as well ) it enters the block on top right behind where the intake seals to the block ( picture in you mind where the dist is on a chevy engine to give you some idea ) There is a gauge screwed into the passage in this pic to give you an idea what Im referring to here -
Thanks Mark, Ive not seen or had any of these other kits . So it had me wondering if this one the only one out there. I have a couple of them and thinking I may try my hand at resin casting this one ( its looks fairly easy to copy for a 1st timer )

One has to consider,,it is best offer. Glad I found the one I have, and I dont have $50 in mine -
While the garage warms up ( 26 degrees here this morning ) I decide to get a little work done on the Superbird build. Added a prewired dist from MAD. routed and wired in the correct firing wiring order btw . Also took a staple and bent and glued in place to replicate one of the spark plug wire routing brackets .,,then touched it with orange paint. Then made and added an engine oil dipstick , the loop only on the handle will be touched up with engine color as the tube stays natural steel . Also added / routed the pcv hose and the hose that will eventually go to the power brake booster once its glued in the chassis . The carbs themselves I'm not real happy with ,,but once the air cleaner is glued on they cant be seen anyway so they'll stay as is . Wheels are painted with Testors silver, then the center caps were painted with flat steel to show some contrast between the 2. Also drilled and added valve stems to the wheels . Tires are the lettered parts pack F60-15 tires and the wheels are from the Revell 1970 Cuda. Also painted and did the flocking on the bottom of the hood to replicate the molded hood pad that was on this car . Its done for the day,,,out to the garage I go Thanks for looking ,,and any comments good,,,, or bad are welcome
