  1. I was wondering about the wheels on the actual car , brand and such . so I need to ask , What are the wheels from ? . I need to find me a set as well
  2. Ask here http://www.ebay.com/itm/370795386998?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  3. I think it depends on the seller at a show, some are simply extensions of a concrete store ft, some are extensions of an internet only base business, they tend to sell pretty close to retail and less likely to wheel and deal. As opposed to the joe schmoe seller is simply trying to make a few bucks to support his hobby and may be more willing to negotiate price. I have one LHS and his model kit stock is somewhat limited ( mainly R/C stuff ) if he has it I can usually buy it cheaper online and pay shipping versus buying local, pay sales tax and pay fuel prices to go get it . A LHS his competition may be a half hour / several miles away. Plus he has that ' instant gratification ' feeling going for him . Where as an internet business,(ebay as an example ) his competition is just a mouse click away so prices tend to be a bit lower
  4. I totally agree , my point I was trying to convey was not everyone strives to acheive 1000% dead nuts accuracy. ( me included) my point was and I may be way off base here is, but I think most builders start a project with an image in there head. If the finished product reflects that image,,, they are and very much should be ,,,,, happy with it, ( myself included ) even if a judge dis-agrees . If someone looks in my case and THEY see what I had in my minds eye, I acheived my goal and i'm happy with that result. Don't get me wrong I look at some of the builds that are and have been shown here that are off the charts. Especially some of the all scratchbuilts being completed. I simply don't have the time, inclination (aka mostly desire +/or talent) to pull off something similar to them.
  5. Interesting thread, some excellant view points being made and I agree with 99% of it But I think it comes back the old adage - "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" . ( aka the builder ) If said builder IS happy with His ( or hers) finished product,,,. and thats all that matters . If a model show judge thinks it's inaccurate , thats there opinion and they are entitled to it and should add or deduct points based on there knowledge of the subject. . And ONLY if they are knowledgable of said subject. If said judge is guessing then IMO should rely on the one who built said replica that it IS accurate. Either way and in the end it comes to opinions, one person can look at the Mona Lisa and think it's the ugliest thing on the planet, someone else may think it's the gods gift to the world. PS, Love the Alfa btw
  6. Very much so, I'll work for hours to get the stance I am after . especially on vintage funnycar. IMO they just don't look right with the entire tire visible . I try to get the body/ wheel opening down to right at the top edge of rim at least same thing for ealy 60's superstock cars, a lot of them had a nose high look to them sitting still
  7. Agreed, a few years ago a mint unbuilt MPC 1968 Color Me Gone Charger funnycar kit sold for nearly $1000, over the next few weeks several more came out of the woodwork and sold anywhere from $300 to $800 . Prior to that 1st one you rarely ever saw this kit unbuilt The one who determines Ebay sold prices is the 1st looser. I've won seveal kits lately and I would have paid considerably more than my winning bid, thankfully the 2nd highest bidder wasn't.
  8. same here, mine was the SD421 with slixx decals, and i agree 100% the 3 tone interior was " lots of fun " Thankfully my next one is an all red interior Keep it up btw
  9. So far so good. I built this exact kit recently. And I agree 100% it makes for a really nice looking shelf piece
  10. A12 cars were avail with power brakes but it's power drum brakes only. Actually the avail options list was pretty short. All were black steel wheels with G7015 goodyear redlines only. Avail both 2 door hardtop and sedan. All were 4-10 Dana rear axles - regardless is manual or auto I am pretty sure chrome exhaust tips were standard except on California bound cars Wheel lip mouldings were not avail, and I don't think rocker mldgs were avail. Agreed, and it replicates a baseline interior like most of the A12 cars used. You get ft and rear seat and door panels.... .It fits the AMT 68 roadrunner - 69 GTX floorpan perfectly I have one for a future A12 car build myself. and could snap off a detail picture if needed. (actually have 2 A12 car builds planned) But, I'll for warn you. The interior pieces could easily pass for stryene , that are that nice. Hood looks pretty good so far. Is that the Johan hood modified ? , Landy charger scoop modified ? AFX-N-Scale makes the hood and it is really nice
  11. I will not use any pre-wired dists but M.A.D. - excellant quality and service is one of the best. 2 thumbs up
  12. I have a sealed 1st issue with the orange cuda on the lid , but the only other one I have is the molded in purple later issue and it has chrome tail lights . I don't think I've ever had the AAR version in my hands. I used to have ( may still have it somewhere ) the black street machine version with the 2 scoop hood but I don't remember the tail lights it has/had.
  13. I drilled holes on the body and inserted /super glued a small aluminum tube, then once dry fill fill the hole in the tube with paint of your choice to replicate the red and the amber , then polish . Tada , almost instant 1968 side markers
  14. Cool build , great story. I think the oldest I have that I personally built is a Johan 1969 Road Runner done as a Sox and Martin car. Best I can remember that car was built somewhere maybe 25-30 years ago give or take a few years. I've been with my wife for almost 23 years , and I know it was built before then I had got out of the hobby lock stock and barrel back in the later 70's - very early 80's time frame ( chasing girls and chasing real cars took over in a BIG way) . and came back to it real late 80s or so and this one was one of the 1st when I came back to it .
  15. sums it up pretty well for me. I build little toys cars because I like the subject matter that I'm trying to replicate and if someone else looks in the case and sees what I have in my minds eye,,,,then I acheived my goal. Last weekend was the 1st contest I've entered in well over 10 years with ZERO expectations of placing, let alone winning. I was there so my daughter could show off her 1st built model,, . And in hopes she might enjoy it enough to follows in dads footsteps. and see friends I only see once a year at said contests.
  16. Not to mention the actual chrome bezel on a 1/1 is so thin,,,, IMO, I think it would be extremly difficult to replicate in 1/25th scale with anything other than to chrome the entire bezel and paint around it
  17. If it comes out looking EXACTLY like it appears in the pictures so far, it will still sell like hotcakes on sunday I'll take a case of them right NOW
  18. AFX- N-Scale makes one , I just don't remember if it is a 1968 or 1969 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-BARRACUDA-COUPE-WITH-PRO-STREET-INTERIOR-RESIN-CAST-MODEL-1-25TH-SCALE-/390575413511?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item5af01bd907
  19. Harry, Sorry but I respectivle dis-agree. I used to work for a shop that has been invited to ( its the only way your entry is on the show field @ Pebble Beach) and won there respective class at Pebble Beach . He has told me many times it was never a show about absolute correctness at any point he has exibited a car there. ( 3 times I think ) I have been involved with high level Concurs shows, as a judge , and exibiter, and as a patron. Trust me, I woudl venture to say 99% of the cars entered are no where near 'correct'. It is , and so I'm told by exhibiters envolved a lot longer than I have, is ' A beauty contest. ' In my gutt I have serious doubts the craftmanship as displayed today , is anywhere near the level compared to when they were new. Attend a true Concurs level show,,,,, and Really look over the cars that win top honors sometime. Every bolt on the engine has the flats of every hex pointed the same direction. Every bolt / nut with a cotter pin going thru it has said cotter pin pointed in the same direction and cut the same length in addition to every flat headed the same direction. Valve stems are put at the exact same location on every tire. etc etc etc.
  20. Ding ding ding we have a winner, give that man a cigar And thats why I don't care to do contests,. It's not about accuracy, it's a beauty contest just as an FYI The most prestigious show in the world . The Peeble Beach Councors D'Elegance is that same thing
  21. Thanks to all for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I've never heard of , built or even had a Heller kit till recently, now I'l have 2 With the luck I've had on drag car builds lately I may take a break from them ,,,,,,and build the Alfa-Romeo sooner than I had originally planned. Especially while the 1/1 is so close and readily avail to ck details if needed. I'll look into the wheels once the kit arrives then decide how to procede. Thanks again
  22. 1/25th scale almost exclusively, but I do have several prewar era cars to do and they are all 1/24th scale. Never built anything larger than 1/24th scale. I do have maybe 1 or 2 of the 1/32nd scale cars I have several 1/18th scale diecast but I found out real quick they take up way more room than I would like so I stopped collecting them as much as I was
  23. I wish ya the best, Been there and done that and I know exactly how you feel . Material things can be replaced, life can't.
  24. I did assemble the kits shortblock with a set of Johan Hemi cylinder heads and crossram intake . That way I wanted to get it in primer tomorrow maybe then painted later in the week so I can start detailing the underhood stuff this weekend ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And thats when it went downhill. It just wasn't meant for me to finish this car. I was turning around to come out of my work bench area when I smacked the side of the body on the door frame and put an 1/8" chip in the left rear quarter panel. Plus under the right lighting and at the the right angle I can see crazing under / in the paint that didn't show up till I cleared it. At least the 1st time I painted it, the crazing showed up before it was cleared and the decals were on. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to see if it could fly . And at that point, I just closed the doors , turned out the lights and walked away before I did something I would regret tomorrow. Tomorrow I 'm just gonna touch up the knick, dab some clear over it and move on.
