  1. Best as in loved it the most, my Factory Five Cobra replica, best as in best all around, our 2007 Honda CR-V. Bought it new, just turned past 125K and runs like a top. My sunny day ride 2000 Mazda Miata Special Edition is the most fun street car I ever had. Finally, the Austin Healey Sprite in my avatar is my favorite race car. I doubt I'll ever buy another gasoline engine vehicle at my age. Maybe a good electric car if they'd develop and then be able to price it so more people can afford one. Things change.
  2. I totally agree with the Rally drivers. Just wish someone would provide good TV coverage. Don't agree with you on Indy. At least there's some passing with them. Don't care that there are so few engine providers. F1 isn't exciting any more. There's NO passing. I wish all the different sanctioning groups would take the wings and aero BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH off the cars and just race. Wing belong on airplanes. Again, I totally agree!
  3. That was the start of it for me too. I still hate it that Harvick edged him out of a 500 win. Plus Nastycar management docked him 25 points back in the early 90s, just enough to give the cup to ironhead. Didn't want to see Gordon quit but I'm glad he's healthy and happy. Saw him put a midget racer on 2 wheels on the dirt back in the 80s. He won the race. I knew he'd be historic. I sure miss Thursday Night Thunder. Nastycar = too many gimmicks
  4. I gave up on Nastycar a couple of years ago. They continually mess with the rules to "create drama". Daytona and Taladega are too big. Cut the stupid banking down to about 20 degrees, get rid of about half the ground effects stuff and take the restricter plates off. Then you'll see racing. The only reason they're on the cars is insurance. Racing is where you prove you are a better driver when you brake later for a turn and make a clean pass and not knock them out of the way. Yes, brake for the turn. I've heard drivers say that their grandmother could drive one of those cars around Daytpna and Dega flat out because it's stuck to the track with so much downforce. Everybody has about the same HP so it's not racing, it's physics. Give me Indycar anytime, especially now that Tony George can't ruin it again.
  5. I'vve got the Historic Sports Car series Gunze Sangyo Mk I kit. Here are the instructions. AH Sprite Mk I Historic Sports Car.tiff
  6. Bill is right, Quentin. The more layers of paint (primer, color, clear) that you put on the model, the more you lose detail. My method of preparing a body is to wash it in Dawn dishwashing soap and then scrub it with comet and a brush until the plastic doesn't shine. Clean up all the pin marks, mold lines and then make sure those places are smoothly sanded with at least 1000 grit sand paper. Then, you're ready to apply paint. Personally, I'm trying to eliminate the need for primers altogether. The paint I'm experimenting with is Createx Wicked colors. Works good so far.
  7. Yeah, I've decided that the mechanical route is the only thing that will work so I'm off to the hardware for some small screws.
  8. Point of sale will get you every time! Right there next to the register. The equivalent of putting candy down low at the grocery store.
  9. Got a Mk I Austin Healey Sprite to build a replica of my race car.
  10. I'm making a paint shaker using clamps and a jig saw. I want to glue pieces of PVC plastic caps onto the grey plastic tips (pictured) on the clamp but nothing works. I've used the Harbor Freight 2 part epoxy but that didn't work. Neither did super glue. Help!
  11. Great job on an obscure Gurney race car. I'm working on his Belgian GP winner now. After his passing, I had to get on it.
  12. Mine was a 1960. It was built by Bill and Will Perry of Rivergate Restorations. It's a replica of the car Bill raced back in the 60s. They won 12 of 13 vintage races back in the mid 90s with it. I wasn't nearly that fast in sprint races when I drove it, but did manage a couple of class wins in endurance races with VDCA. Tons of fun. Yes, it's right hand drive. Miss it a lot.
  13. Where do you get the hardware?
  14. I've got a 1/43 Hot Wheels cast that I'm going to try to create a replica of my old race car. But I'd really love to build one in a larger scale. Is there anything available?
  15. Pretty cool. Thanks for the tip on the seat. I'd thought about doing one from scratch.
  16. Gotta admit that's a fast lap. He's running the whole course plus the infield section too. My times, minus the infield around there were like 3:40. Only a minute off but then, I only had one liter pulling me. VIR is where my avatar was taken. My favorite course. That being said, how many of those laps could a vette make before it had to be towed?
  17. Createx crimson, deep blue and platinum paints.
  18. I'd build it if it were mine. Investing in model cars? Kinda like what Penske said, "want to know how to make a million in racing, start with two million". Same with model cars, just on a smaller scale.
  19. How'd you build the seat? I need to make a 1/43 one for a replica of my racing Bugeye.
  20. I used to autocross a Datsun 510 and was in a 510 forum. May 10th was their big day, of course.
  21. Two 16 0z. bottles of Createx 4030 Balancing Clear.
