  1. Everything done so well, Clifford! Love the color too!
  2. Beautifully done. The BMF work is great!
  3. Found out my humidity gauge is kaput. 15 sure sounded low.
  4. I'm just north of Chattanooga, TN about 15 miles and we are still in the extreme drought sector on the maps. Rain is expected on Monday through Wednesday and should bring 2-3", finally! We're closing in on 24" of rain deficit for 2016. With that said, my shop is along the back walls of the basement and fully enclosed. It'll leak but it's not like there are large openings. I keep the room heated in the colder months and can maintain 75 degrees easily. I run a dehumidifier in the basement part closest to the outside door. Humidity levels stay a consistent 15% in the model shop. I'll be interested to see what some rain does. Do you think 15% is too dry?
  5. With that logic in mind, I'm thinking that warming the body AND paint to the same temperature is ideally what you want to achieve. Is there an optimum temperature when doing this. My drying booth is variable and I'd like to play around with some experimentation ideas. I shoot decanted Tamiya lacquers through a Paasche H but would like to experiment some and also take another shot at acrylics. Any suggestions?
  6. That's very nice! I'm starting on a resin 56 Customline soon.
  7. Nice. especially the 61.
  8. Welcome, James! I'm 72 and deal with the same things and I've found a few things that help. Ask away! PS Cataract surgery really lit up my work shop!
  9. You can use solder too.
  10. Thanks, Bill. I'll head to the store and get some. Have you ever tried this method of applying glue?
  11. I read a tip about using calligraphy pen tips to apply CA glue. My question is, what's the best way to remove the glue from the pen tip when I'm finished?
  12. Pete, the journal is a great idea. I'm going to try that and see if I can improve my work.
  13. I'm like Geoff. I use the big one which has 5 bands inscribed around it. For bodies, I decant Tamiya and Model Master lacquers, don't thin them and shoot at about 20-25 psi. The big one also works for spraying thinned craft acrylics which I use on chassis, suspension and engine parts. I have a nice dual action brush that was over $100 retail, but I never use it any more.
  14. What clears do you guys use?
  15. 72 as of last May.
  16. No, you're not the worst. I have yet to finish a model that I think is great. There's always a good side to photograph because there are problems on the other side. I haven't finished a model since January. Just haven't been real motivated but with winter coming on, I'm feeling the urge again. Work at it when you feel like it and don't when you don't feel like it. You'll get better.
  17. I am so sorry to hear about Mike. It's another sad story about cancer. Too many people are dying from cancer. When I first started teaching at a nuclear plant, we told the students that the cancer rate was 1 out of every 4. That lesson plan has been revised to reflect the new statistic. It's 1 out of every 3 now and on average, incrementally rising each year. I've had cancer all around me in my family and friends. Pure and simple, it's the environment. We're slowly poisoning ourselves to death.
  18. I decant Tamiya lacquers and spray them through a Passche H.
  19. I like it! Great out of the box concept, my favorite kind!
  20. I store my paints in small Mason jars and just stir with a plastic straw. The one paint that I do stir is craft acrylics. I use them on chassis and interiors. They tend to clump so I rigged up a little stirring station using a couple of pieces of wood and my variable speed dremel. The stirrer is just a piece of coat hanger that I bent at a 90 degree angle and flattened. The tip only sticks out about 1/8" and stirs the paint without throwing it all over the place.
  21. The Newhart car isn't even close to the one in the opening of Newhart. It even says The Bob Newhart Show on the box. That was the title of the 70s series. He walks to work in that intro. Newhart is the 80s series with the brown Olds 4 dr sedan in the intro. I have no idea why they'd issue such an incorrect model.
  22. Great photos. I've built myself a photo booth as well and need to re-photograph my builds. You have inspired me.
  23. Is this the '30 Model A and did the rear end come with it?
  24. Thanks for the link, Tulio. I watched this one and his video on applying his home made foil.
