  1. If you build it, they will come. Wait, wrong movie!
  2. Stop what you're doing, go to the Oreilly's Auto Parts home page and type 121g into the part search. You'll love it!
  3. BTD, are you using Color Place or Home Shades? Out of the can or airbrush? Any barrier coats between the primer and the plastic? Is it compatible with other paints like MM or Tamiya lacquer? I use lacquers for the bodies of my cars. I love the nice thin coats that Tamiya primers put down but it is no cheap, even at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. Certainly not $1/can.
  4. The only comment I would add is that 35 psi sounds too high. I use the #5 tip with my Paasche H and shoot at 22 psi. What tip are you using?
  5. Thanks for the reminder, Bill. Just donated again. If any of you feel like I do, I hope you can give something. Never have met Harry but I've gotten so much knowledge from this forum and Harry is the main guy that makes it happen. So, please give.

  7. The Metalizer line of Model Master lacquer paints is pretty good if you want a quick easy solution.
  8. Thanks to BTD and 1930fordpickup, I get it now. I was thinking the extension was for the length of the body of the head and not attached directly to the tip of the head. I was able to get the head through the front and rear windows of the 510 but it was close. I'll be getting some extra ones and making up some extensions so that isn't an issue. I'll have to see if the better half is interested in nail accessories too.
  9. BTD, how do you pull the bristles out and not mess up the mechanism inside that makes it work? The extension sounds like a great idea. I could just reach the corners in the top of the 510 and thought at that time that some sort of extension would be useful. Can you take some pics and give a brief description of the extension? I'd thought about the hole punches but wanted to do one trial assembly and see how it worked. I'll probably get them. Your reasoning sounds valid. I did notice some areas that may have been caused by the irregular shape. What's the biggest size you use? I think HF has a set for about $10 that goes up to 1/2" which is just a little smaller than the toothbrush head (~0.56").
  10. I asked here on the forum about using an electric toothbrush with sandpaper attached so time ago. It didn't get much of a reception. But of course, that doesn't stop me. I recently bought an el cheapo at WM for about $10 and got some extra heads. I used a scalpel to cut the bristles off the heads. It was impossible to get them cut close enough to use the 2 sided tape by itself so I cut some small pieces out of .075 sheet stock and super glued them to the heads. You can use any thickness as long as it's flat. If you notice, I left one head with short bristles. It works great for removing paint around emblems and trim. I spray a lot of lacquer and I dip the head into 91% iso and scrub away. Does a decent job without getting too physical with all the detail on the car. I used a dremel to trim the excess sheet material off the head. To attach the sandpaper, I use double sided tape. It's about 1/16 or 1/8 inch thick and made of foam. I'm working on some ejector pin marks in the hood and roof of this BRE 510. It made quick work of the putty using 360. You don't need to use much pressure, just let the sandpaper do it's work. I put a couple of drops of water on the spot I'm working on to prevent the paper from getting loaded up. It doesn't work in every situation but it's another tool to make life easier.
  11. Daddyfink, you beat me to it but I'll give $15 and pay the shipping. It's so sad when people unload their worthless stuff onto unsuspecting hobbyists.
  12. I agree, be sure the coats you've applied are thoroughly dried and then hit it with a couple of more coats of clear and let that dry good. That's a pretty blue under the clear.
  13. I've read that many people do it and have no problem. I must have been thinking about chrome when I posted that stupid opinion above.
  14. I've heard several times that it dulls the finish so I've never tried it.
  15. I've had that idea run through my head a few times. I thought about building the truck to look like a beater and building the midget like a little jewel. Represents the idea that all the money goes into the race car. The truck is just a tool. I've also thought about using a southern dirt racer instead of the midget.
  16. Kevin, everyone has a story and a preference. I started out with an El Cheapo from Harbor Freight which wasn't much of an airbrush. I then bought a $120 Badger Patriot 105. It's a beautifully made precision piece of equipment. In the right hands, it could do miraculous things. But not my hands. I became pretty good at using it but never felt confident. A sage old racing buddy gave me an analogy that works for many circumstances. The more adjustments a race car has, the more ways there are to mess it up, if you don't know what you're doing. We're just talking about an airbrush but sometimes it's better to keep things simple. I read and watched Youtube and read some more and finally settled on a Paasche H. Cheap, simple, well made. I found extra tips on eBay but usually just use the #5, the largest one.
  17. I'll give that a try.
  18. Payday is Wednesday. I'll hit it again then. I hope everyone would give just a little, whatever you could afford. I've never met Harry but I'll tell you this, I've been back in this hobby for about 5 years now and easily 95% of the knowledge I've gained in that time is because of the MCM Forum. If you feel like I do about this forum, you've got to admit it's worth something.
  19. I always wound up with lots of orange peel. I was shooting with the large #5 tip on a Paasche H at about 30 to 35 psi. I'm thinning with a mixture of 1/3 isopropyl alcohol to 2/3 distilled water with 2 ml of Liquitex Professional Flow-Aid Fluid Medium and 2 ml of Liquitex Professional Slow Dri Blending Medium. I think I may be overthinking it. I'll try some more tests with 50/50 paint/alcohol and lower my pressure. Do the darker colors of craft acrylics have larger particle sizes than the lighter colors?
  20. I use the same airbrush as Chris, tried to imitate his methods and failed every time. Wish I knew more about the different types of craft acrylics. I've bought the cheapest that Michaels carries. Maybe that's the problem. Opinions?
  21. I wonder how the Craft Smart paints from Michaels compare to Delta Ceramcoat, Folk Art and Apple Barrel?
  22. Great job! I have one of those in my stash that I want to build some day but I've heard it's not an easy kit to build.
  23. I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. Sounded like he was an important part of the hobby in Puerto Rico.
  24. LA Totally Awesome is the brand name. They make several products for cleaning and maintenance of floors. I wasn't aware of the concentrated cleaner removing paint. It's great around the house. I wonder if it was lacquer, enamel or acrylic paint that it removed?
  25. I've watched all of Chris's videos. He has the technique down to get good results. His videos do need an update because the Future substitute that he recommended called LA Totally Awesome has changed their formula and it doesn't work any longer. I can verify that.
