Scale I Build

  1. Here is my last build, a 53 Ford F100, from the AMT Diamond in the rough kit. I wanted a truck in a good condition, but weathered, for my garage and junkyard diorama. And that one has a tow bar, perfect for pictures with the trailer ! Some stuff in the interior... Flathead V8. And here is the new project of the shop ! Leave your comments !
  2. Recently I saw a built 1932 Ford Roadster that was a center steer drag car. It had a nice tonneau cover over the drivers area except for where the driver would sit. When I asked my buddies at my local model club. They said it is a AMT kit and that the parts for this build are included in the kit. Sooo here is the question to all of you are much more knowledgable than I am. Which version(s) of the AMT 1932 Ford roadster kit has the parts needed to build the center steer drag race version? Hopefully it will be a verily recent kit. Don't want to break the bank. Thank you in advance.
  3. Work in progress over here http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71981&st=0&p=896283 Introducing Mr. Sinister, he's a 32 Ford sedan with twin 426 hemi's. The entire under carrage was scratch built which was first for me. Because this monster is so long and the driver sits so far back I added a laptop which operates cameras mounted to the front of the car for looking left and right for safety. The headlights are in the skulls on the hands and the turn signals are in the eyes of the main skull. The skull on the front is something I modeled with a little program called blender 3d and sent the model to shapeways who then printed it for me. This is my main entry for this years cannonball cbp. I missed out on last years so this year I wanted to do something completly over the top, something that would make George Barris proud. Also my thinking for this years race was to make something so over the top that any cop would just look at it and say to the other "I didn't see that and neither did you." I wont be the fastest or the most practical cross country racer but it will should be one fun ride and in the end that's all I wanted to make. Thanks for looking, and also to everyone who followed the build thank you to you all as well.
  4. Hello everyone, this is a new build I started it's one of my entries for this years Cannonball Run cbp as the title says it's a 32 Ford Sedan Street Rod from Revell. I plan to build it as a custom Hot Rod that will house two 426 Hemi's, chop the top, and do a few other things that I'll keep secret for now. I haven't really decided on a color yet, I'm thinking about a nice candy apple red but it's subject to change. I just started to build the frame, I thought it would be better to build a frame rather than extend the original. So after some planing, burnt fingers and a few choice words this is what I got. This is also my first attempt at a custom frame so we'll see where it goes. That's where it's at right now, I'll start re-building a 67 GTX soon for the same contest, I just want to get this a little further along seeings how this is uncharted water for me. Thanks for looking!
  5. Hello, I'm sorta new around here so its nice to meet all of you. Although I don't post very often I enjoy looking around on MCM for ideas and love some of the creations I see. There is a lot of talent on here. This is my current project that I'm taking a swing at. It's the original 55 Jukebox Ford kit. On this one i'm trying to do a little more than just put it together. I plan on some wiring, seat belts, delay box, and all that good stuff. I've never got super detailed on any of my builds but I've always wanted to try. At this point there isn't much to report. I put together the Protech distributor and it is ready to put on the engine. Also glued in a few loops to the firewall to run wires. I have everything stripped and primed except for the body. Just waiting on a nice day to shoot some paint. Thanks for looking! Comments are always welcome good or bad.
  6. Hello, my name is Daniel mattera, I am trying to build a model of a truck I previously had it was a 1992, Ford F250 XLT, with the standard cab. I was looking at just removing the extra extended cab on a monogram 1990 F250 and going from there. I see others have made that truck but I have no idea what to expect, and don't know if anyone has done the same or has advice regarding this kit or if there is another that matches to correct year I need. Also what about a mild lift (the model looks a bit to low, I see others have lifted that I wonder how they did as well as if the kit comes as a 4x4) (obviously im a beginner with this stuff... im only in high school so anything would be a wonderful bit of advice) Thanks!
  7. Hi Guys, I want to show you my first build thread: It´s a AMT Ford Galaxie 1961 or something, Custom. So long, here are the pic´s: Ahh...what do you think about my sidepipe?
  8. Just got it today as a gift from a friend in the military. Its gonna be IH red and hopefully i can find some agressive tires for it. maybe off the revell jeep rubicon but thatd mean i have to buy the jeep just for the tires. who knows ill figure something out i wanna use the mags that came in the kit on the tires no low rider trucks for me. The bed is painted thats the only work so far.
  9. Hi there ! I'll post here some pictures of my actual building, a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500, for my junkyard diorama. This car is from an AMT kit. I like that one because doors are openable. I've done some scratches and holes on the body : I've put an Iron base paint, before painting. I often do that to see the rust come from under the paint
  10. 1:32 snap-tite ford aeromax,.thanks for looking
  11. My 56 Ford with trailer and demolition derby car. (1/25 scale)
  12. Finished this one today, I had no intentions of chopping it at first (i was going to build it like the box art) but after eyeballing it i thought the roof was too high, so i chopped it about 3 or 4 mm and put it back together. I didn't plan on smoothing the roof but after i brush painted the roof tan it looked bad. paint was uneven and i lost the texture of the roof so i block sanded it smooth and repainted it. the body on this was giving me hell, the paint kept going wrong so when i got it sort of good i settled with it so the paints not perfect. Anyway i like the overall look of it and I'm pleased with the final result. I made the mistake of using super glue during the final assembly and i ended up with the white fogging from it. I cleaned it up as best i could but I'm not sure how to remove it easily All comments welcome.
  13. Well I decided to play around with this kit. This is my 3 one ever and my first scratch built. Decided to ditch the nose hood front and rear fenders, chop the top and bagged. Lets see how it goes.
  14. And after several hours of agonizing over this and struggling and stripping and sanding and painting and changing my mind and.... wishing I were working on another kit as '56 F100's aren't really my bag at all... I decided to just throw it together and see what happens. It didn't turn out half bad and I tried alot of stuff I've never done before. Paint is all craft store acrylic, washed off with rubbing alcohol, and highlighted with some cheap oil paints. The rest of the build is documented (poorly) here
  15. While frustrated with some other builds, I changed gears and started work on the AMT '70 Galaxie police car. But I wanted to make it more like one we had back in the day. So, I found a green close to my memory of the Ford, made a vinyl top out of tape, and found some stock looking hubcaps from the parts box. BMF ended up a bit thick and too shiny, but you get the idea. I kept the interceptor engine, though, just for kicks. Enjoy!
  16. Here's my finished AMT 1/25 Ford Fairlane 427 in all her glory. BTW, this is the first kit I've built in 20 years.
  17. Here it is, the first kit I've started in more than 20 years! I picked up this beautiful AMT Fairlane 427 over 10 years ago; finally I decided to do something about it... Stage One, research. I went online and found the exact car at www.mustangandfords.com Stage Two, more research. What new tricks are out there for building plastic models in the 21st Century, anyway? Found this little gem at my local hobby shop; Stage Three, quite dragging things out and actually commit. So, step by step, I actually got on with it. Put a lot of time and effort into finishing the engine block and components. Since this was the first subassembly I had tackled in a very long time, I luxuriated over it; sanding, filling and primering. Of course, as the weeks wore on, other aspects of the finishing received somewhat less attention... The quality of the kit moulding pleasantly surprised me. The parts fit so well that I used almost no putty. The joins bonded nicely with Ambro Safe Weld and disappeared with light sanding and filing. The transmission was a separate component from the engine block. This allowed me to finish and paint each element separately, unlike the old days when the whole thing came in two halves. Shift linkages were also included, which is I found a nice detail element. Given this was a "back in the saddle" exercise, i decided to build the kit OTB, with the exception of the spark plug wires, which seem to add so much realism. I used yellow fine-guage model railroad electrical wire. The prototype wires are black, but given the simple black and white colour scheme of the original car, I made the creative decision to emphasize small hits of bright colour as realistically as possible. I was initially apprehensive about detailing the tires. I love the red sidewall detail but dreaded how to achieve it. Fortunately, there is a very slight groove in the vinyl. With patience, reading glasses, a 000 brush and diluted flat red Tamiya acrylics, I got on with it. I allowed the diluted paint to flow into the groove and wiped away the excess, giving quite passable results. I think I may have had a whiskey as well after completing this stage. I'll post more pics later today and tomorrow. As promised; Here are some of the detail components. The dashboard was dismal, but the streering wheel turned out nicely. I sprayed the base colour using Testors semi-gloss black and painted on the chrome trims. Again, using a 000 brush and a lot of patience. No whiskey required this time. Completed engine compartment. Hose clamps are made from strips of aluminum tape. The completed sub-components ready for final assembly The first disappointment. In a misguided attempt to save money, I used commercial spray enamel instead of a better quality hobby enamel for the body colour. The result was an orange peel finish. Using super-fine grit sandpaper and polishing compound, I corrected most of the defects. I then finished the window trims and windshield wipers using Testors Krome Foil. Unfortunately, the foil picked up some of the residual orange peel finish. Lesson: get the finish right first! Completed undercarriage and detail. The selective hits of colour are all reasonably accurate to the original car. And...the final result.
  18. The last model car I finished, 9 years ago in 2004. This one was such a pain, the parts didn't fit, the flip-nose was very hard to stay in one place...this kit got me out of the hobby for almost ten years. Thinking about it now, I have to applaud the model company for even trying to do a 1:25 flip-nose. I might even try to build another one.
  19. I built this Revell 32 Ford around 11 years ago. One of my favorite kits ever, I should have bought ten of them. Does anyone else think that even at 1:25 scale, the Revell 32 Ford visually look larger than other 1:25 kits? I opted for the fenderless version and painted the body a sky blue color from a spray can. The interior was done with a suede paint and the frame and firewall were painted flat black. I scuffed the tires with a sanding block to give it a more authentic look.
  20. Hey- I'm just now getting back to building model cars after about ten years. I thought someone might get a kick out of this story: Around 2002 I stopped at a yard sale and picked up this Revell '37 Ford Street Rod kit for 25 cents (I still have the round sticker that they wrote the price on). I think this kit was from 1987 or 88. It was so warped that you couldn't even sit the body over top of the chasis. I fixed it by placing the body in some very warm water, then placing the interior tub in, then placing it in cold water. That kinda "set" it to where it needed to be. It was sort of fun fixing that warp issue so I started imagining what a teenager in the 50's would have done to this car had it been an actual 1:1 car. To create this hot rod jalopy I scored the running boards with an exacto and removed them along with the front fenders. The radiator sat on a small piece of plastic attached to the front fenders so I trimmed that off and glued it in place. Then I cut the hood to fit over the radiator / grill. I gave the body a coat of red, the interior was painted suede and the engine blue (seemed like a good idea at the time). I'm a big fan of deuce coupes in any form, but the idea of other cars of that era being rodded is pretty interesting as well. When I was still going to shows, this model got some interesting looks and a few "hell yeah's" Looking at this 10 years later I realized that I needed to add the windshield wipers and paint the inside of the radiator.
  21. I built this '57 Ford some time ago. Liking the way it turned out, I dug out a very old Ranchero, and tried to make 'em twins. Thanks for looking!
  22. Hey everybody. This is my first true project since I've gotten back into building afer about 5 or 6 years from taking a break. I am building a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck that will be fully custom inside and out. I don't have any progress on it yet. I just got it earlier today and just opened it up. I am about to cut the doors open and get started on some of the easier things I can do first. Here are some of my plans for it. I know it is allot, but I want a big challenge. Without the challenge, I would get bored and quit. Fully custom frame with bags and 4 link. Convertible Hard-Top roof. Fully custom interior. Raised bed floor (Not sure about stock or smooth styrene.) Body dropped. Flat black with red accents here and there. Stock rims (unless I find something better). Openable "zig-zag" style doors. Openable reversed hood with 2" cowl. Not sure on engine yet (don't want to use the supplied I6). Shaved tail lights. Tubbed front inner fenders. Possible custom grille. License plate relocated to back window in custom frame. Possible sound system (most likely). Highly detailed all over. Feel free to give suggestions/tips and post pics of what you have done.
  23. Finished it here it is sporting my high school's logo.
  24. Just got this today as part of my Christmas haul. I have all of the tools that I'll need to build this correctly. Just need to buy a few jars of paint and figure out what to do with the grille assembly and I'll be on my way to completing this project as my triumphant return to the world of scale modeling
