Dave Van Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 If you are referring to the kit itself.....No insider info on this exact kit.....but I know often in licensing you get a blanket license.R2 had a license for the 3 Stooges figure kits. They then did the 40 Panel.....sold enough to warrant a Willys kit. Remember the tooling is long paid for. If they can get non model car guys to buy a model because it's 3 Stooges.....a win-win for us and them. I bought ONE.....may never build it.....I thought it was cool idea....and a free whoopie cushion??? I'm in! Called getting the most for your license fees.
DaveM Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I was going to buy one, but the whoopie cushion was out of tune.
b-body fan Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I agree with Dave, It's all about licensing and marketing to appeal to a larger audience. I recently sold a Kiss(the rock band) van from the late 70's for fairly substantial money. The buyer was not a modeler. He collected Kiss memorabilia. The tooling was just a Chevy van with a few extra parts and some decals. It is intelligent marketing.
Atmobil Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Looks like it got some cool decals for the fenders and bonnet. I bought the 40 Ford panel but not for the decals but for the subject. I could buy this one aswell, if I'm in the mood.
Belugawrx Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I think it has something to do with Curly's alleged flatulence problem.....
SfanGoch Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Soitenly! Three Stooges related items sell. End of story.
Tom Geiger Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) As Dave Van said, Tom Lowe has always been a master of product licensing and a big movie and TV memorabilia fan. These kits aren't aimed at us, although I've seen plenty of rants on the board here about the Three Stooges 40 Ford sedan delivery, Elvis Manx and Beverley Hills Cop Nova... Movie and TV memorabilia is big business, professionally run shows all over the country, with celebrity guest appearances and thousands of attendees, that make our little hobby look like a lemonade stand! Most of these kits will go to people who collect Stooges, Elvis and movie stuff. Most will remain sealed. Round 2 sells more product, we benefit because the company is stronger and will have more funds to release kits we want. Maybe the association will gain us a few more model car builders. End of story. Edited September 7, 2015 by Tom Geiger
Snake45 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Some will want to revoke my Man Card for this, but I never got the 3 Stooges. Never thought they were funny at all. Even as a kid, I thought Rocky & Bullwinkle was a lot funnier (and WAY more intelligent).
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Some will want to revoke my Man Card for this, but I never got the 3 Stooges. Never thought they were funny at all. Even as a kid, I thought Rocky & Bullwinkle was a lot funnier (and WAY more intelligent).I kind of agree Snake.I was never really amused by watching 3 adult men act like 4 year olds by slapping the snot out of each other for an hour. Joe Handley Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 The kit is pure licensing, love the execution on this one though! As for the show, it's mindless slapstick entertainment, no thought (especially of the deep variety) needed, just kick back, relax, and laugh.
Aaronw Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Some will want to revoke my Man Card for this, but I never got the 3 Stooges. Never thought they were funny at all. Even as a kid, I thought Rocky & Bullwinkle was a lot funnier (and WAY more intelligent). It's there with Beavis and Butthead for me, funny for maybe 5 minutes and then I'm bored with it. It might be kind of weird but I get far more amusement from the random, "Hey a wiseguy" or "Shut up Beavis" that people just throw out there in day to day interaction, than I do from actually watching them..
Chuck Most Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Round2 just wants to get maximum bang-for-the-buck with their 3 Stooges licencing agreement. No mystery here.
Aaronw Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 They were STOOGES!!! Not much to get. Good point, perhaps overthinking things.
scummy Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 There's a whoopie cushion in the the kit ??????
Howard Cohen Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I took part in a local television and movie prop show in July. These are people who actually make props for shows like 'The Flash' and others. They are wild about props. I brought out a selection of TV and movie model car kits and most of them had never seen any of the kits before. They were very interested in seeing them and I talked to several people who were interested in collecting them. From a vending point of view, I like new customers
Greg Myers Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 There's a whoopie cushion in the the kit ?????? Talk about windshield burn.
ZTony8 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Yeah,I outgrew the Stooges after about age nine. And I won't buy a kit just for a commercial tie in.
James2 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Perhaps a spin off from the Stooges 40 Ford Panel truck?
unclescott58 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) I've never outgrown the Stooges. I'm pretty sure I'll be adding this one to my collection. Even though I like Shemp even better than Curly. I know is heresy. I do like Curly. But, the more I see of his brother Shemp, the better I like Shemp. But, with Shemp vs. Curly's popularity, I will not be holding my breath waiting for Shemp related merchandise. Edited September 8, 2015 by unclescott58
SfanGoch Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Perhaps a spin off from the Stooges 40 Ford Panel truck? A Susquehanna Hat Co. delivery truck a la Abbott & Costello. Edited September 8, 2015 by SfanGoch
Harry P. Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Some will want to revoke my Man Card for this, but I never got the 3 Stooges. Never thought they were funny at all. Even as a kid, I thought Rocky & Bullwinkle was a lot funnier (and WAY more intelligent).Of course it was more intelligent. Rocky and Bullwinkle was adult satire disguised as a kid's cartoon show. The Stooges never aspired to be anything more than what they were–pure slapstick; no thinking needed (or expected). You either thought poking a guy's eyes was funny... or you didn't. There wasn't a whole lot of nuance in a Stooge's short.
James2 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 But the lack of intelligence is what made the Stooges funny!
