afx Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Haven't seen the whole episode yet, but GMG is doing a Hot Wheels themed Corvette build and they are cutting up a numbers matching 427!!

Daddyfink Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Gas monkey Garage, or fast n' loud lying cheating BLEEPing BLEEPholes destroying cars for a lame BLEEP TV showSounds like you watch it regularly
Erik548 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Sounds like you watch it regularlynope, just a roadkill fan, but a friends dragster was in it
Petetrucker07 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I don't like Richard, he's douchbag! But Aaron is cool, very creative guy.
espo Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 In this episode they use a numbers matching (which means it still has the "born with" drive train) '68 Corvette. It is a T-Top 435 h p 427 cu in 4 speed that is black on black and would be very easy to restore. In stead of finding even a base 350 automatic to make their Hot Wheels car, they destroy, no they commit a sacrilege, on the afore mentioned Corvette. What they do is cool and the car becomes everything they said it would be, it just seems unexplainable why they would spend $35k on this car instead of finding a basic car for around $10k - $12k since they were replacing almost everything any way. As time has gone by this program has started to go the way of so many good programs that start out with a basic good story line that each season has moved further and further into the absurd. While I still watch it, only if there is nothing else on or I'll wait for the reruns. The car does look great and I may even buy the Hot Wheel went it comes out just because.
Draggon Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I'd like it a lot better if it hadn't been numbers matching. There are some things I'd change, but it does look like a hotwheels.
Jantrix Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 to make their Hot Wheels car, they destroy, no they commit a sacrilege, on the afore mentioned Corvette. I agree. However we're just armchair referees here. To a businessman who is given a budget and a deadline, you gotta do the smart thing. Sometimes that means spending more for a solid starter with an engine that doesn't need replacing (I assume they used the 427) and decent running gear, rather than buy something cheap and wore out without a desireable pedigree.
mike 51 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Don't believe everything (anything) you see or hear on so-called "reality TV"....
Maindrian Pace Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Is it really that much worse than restoring the car? If it was restored and sold for 60-70K, it would end up in some guy's collection, only seeing the light of day 1-2 times a year, when he feels like taking it to a car show - where people walk by because it's another Corvette. He will get tired of it in 3-6 years, then sell it to another guy with a private collection, and the process repeats. Lots of nice classic/muscle cars are stuck in this near-limbo. "But we're saving them for future generations!" Future generations that will never see them...
blunc Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I have a hard time getting my panties bunched up for something like this.I suppose if I had OWNED the vette in question that I might feel different...
afx Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 The point is there is a very limited quantity of numbers matching original cars left and even fewer 427s. They could have used any '68 body and a crate 427 engine for what they wanted to build. Now there is just one less original car in the world.
louie Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Gas monkey Garage, or fast n' loud lying cheating BLEEPing BLEEPholes destroying cars for a lame BLEEP TV showx2
scummy Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Is this the same show that took a 210 57 chev in really good condition and just cut off the sub frame to make a gasser ??
Fat Brian Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Maybe the person this car is intended for wanted a numbers matching car used as the base, maybe he even already owned it and the story of how GMG got it is fudged a bit. It is tv after all. Richard is a lot of things but I don't believe stupid is one of them and if he could have built the car from a beater he probably would have. That being said, I rarely watch this show. The phony deadline "drama" is too much for me, I much prefer Counting Cars where they bring the car out when they get it done.
Greg K Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 if you don't like GMG, you'll really dislike Overhaulin. i cringe every time i watch that show. so i just quit watching it
ChrisBcritter Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Shoot, I'm still POed about the Foose/Trepanian Sniper, which was built from a cherry 40k-mile '54 Plymouth convertible - they threw away most of it; could have built the car from a junked two-door sedan shell with the same results!
58 Impala Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) What a crime trashing a numbers matching Vette. Don't watch the show, that guy Richard reminds me of the shady used car dealer who slaps some Bondo and paint on a junker and asks top dollar. I prefer watching Bitchin' Rides, those guys do some nice work. They do things the right way,not half way. Edited December 12, 2015 by 58 Impala
Howard Cohen Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 You guys sure spend a lot of time watching programs you don't like...are you all crazy? (rhetorical)
mikemodeler Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 haven't watched GMG in a year, I feel the "drama" is made for TV and Richard is an egomaniac. I think he has gone Hollywood much like the guys at Orange County Choppers did and it all went to their heads. I agree that Bitchin Rides seems to be more realistic and the cars seem to be engineered to perform and are not cartoon like. Not sure why a perfectly good, numbers matching Corvette had to sacrificed for the build, but I am sure someone had their reasons.
Petetrucker07 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I prefer Bitchin Rides and Vegas Rat Rods. The boys at Welderup do some amazing things with not so ordinary parts.
Daddyfink Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 We need Jesse James back on T.V.! At least the guy actually worked on stuff!
Petetrucker07 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 He doesn't want to be on TV anymore. He doesn't like the attention. Which is why don't care for the guy. Jesse James does like the attention, people standing outside his shop when West Coast Choppers was still in business. I mean really!?! The people are who made you your money, and your whine and bitch about people wanting to see you! Then he did have a show, whatever it was called with his Austin Speed Shop guys. I couldn't get in to it, because of his and his attitude. I'll watch douchbag Richard Rawlings butcher a Vette, before I give Jesse my viewership.
afx Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 Where all the current shows go wrong (IMHO) they make to show about the people. Me, I would much rather have a show where the cars are the focus. Find a car, tell the history or the significance of the car then show the restoration/build process in sufficient detail. A pipe dream - I know.
