Here's the reissue of the 308 in the Revell Germany box I did about 8 years ago. Built right from the box except for the aftermarket wheels. It was molded in white, not red that time. Builds easily into a nice looking curbside model.

Update: I have found and ordered the BMW635, the Ferrari 308 and the Porsche 911 Carrera. I also have a mostly complete MB 450SL that I am planning to start soon. I hope to someday be able to build the whole series and I promise not to play with, (destroy) them as I did when I was young!

I've got a Capri II in a rally racing boxing and the TR8 targa in a Revell box (assume reboxed Monogram kit). Also the Dodge Ram Charger which seems to fit in with the rest being a fairly simple kit.

I'd like to get the TR7, Land Rover and Mercedes SL450, and would be happy to see any of these re-issued. With the recent re-issue of the Ram Charger along  with some of the simpler Revell (Monogram?) kits like the Chevy Wrecker, GMC snow plow and Ford F150, I'd like to think we may seem some of these other kits in the future. While relatively simple they are not bad kits, and for many of the subjects the only kit we have.

While we are at it I'd love to see a pre-5mph bumpers '69-72 Capri Mk I, but I expect that is very unlikely.

You are better off watching eBay.

Little to no chance Revell/Monogram will release any of those anytime soon.
Only exception might be the 911 based simply on the fact that the 911 Porsche has been around for ages.

And... get off my lawn!

Those kits came out about the time I opened my own hobby shop The Modelmaker, and frankly they all laid eggs sales-wise.  3-4 yrs after they were droped, there were hobby wholesalers still trying to get rid of them.  Such experiences bode very poorly when reissue kits are being considered, frankly.

It's amazing what time and nostalgia will make one long for these days. Even bad kits are looked at fondly nowadays.

It's definitely not from Monogram tooling. Most likely it came from one of the Japanese companies like Aoshima or maybe from Italeri or ESCI if I had to guess.

Assuming the molds for a particular kit are still usable with little to no maintenance, I wonder how much it would cost a company to reissue it? I'm guessing that most of the expense would be in securing the manufacturer license, the packaging and such, but that's a guess.

I have been collecting these kits. I just got 3 more from Steve Kohler this morning. I recommend him highly by the way. The Porsche and the Ferrari are still factory sealed. The Toyota truck isn't one of the kits I ordered. I found that at my dad's house and just started on it. The Porsche is probably destined to be a Magnus Walker style car. I really love what is called the Outlaw style of Porsche.

Is anybody familiar with this story about the Monogram Land Rover?

Many years ago, I won that kit on eBay (and still have it).  A guy bidding against me sent a message after the auction. He said he had worked on the real Land Rover that Monogram measured to make the kit.  He said it belonged to an owner in Southern California - Burbank, I think. And the owner brought it into the garage where he worked.

If I'm remembering this right...and I'm OLD...he said, among other mods, they put a U.S. built 2-barrel carburetor on it. I'd guess that might have something to do with state pollution controls at the time. Courtesy of the ironically-named CARB (California Air Resources Board).

Anyway, here's Chuck Most's excellent article on the Monogram Landy. And why we'll probably never see it again:

Hopefully some or most of these made their way to Atlantis' HQ in Deer Park, NY, and licensing can be obtained so that they can be produced again. I'd be happy if only the 1/24 Monogram Land Rover could be produced again, but the non-racing versions of the sports cars would make for good mid-level model building, too.

I was getting my original kits together after I asked Revell about them. I purposed a 2 in 1 kit that had stock and alternate version in one box. Just as I was about to send them the info......we got the closed info.

Since I started this post I have bought 8 of the 911s, 3 924s and one each of the Ferrari, the Datsun and the Mercedes Benz. I also have a half-built Land Rover and BMW 635 which weren't actually part of the original string of cars. The only ones I've built are the Porsches and the Ferrari. I wonder who ended up with the molds?

I am attracted to odd and obscure models, and I did live in Europe from 1969-72, so those cars are pretty much in my set of experiences.

I would love to have the Land Rover back.  I don't have one and the last one I saw was way more than I'd pay.

I would love to see this series of kits reissued, but as I've already seen the company's do, they keep pricing everything at $30 no matter how old or simple the kit is. I guess they think "1/25 = $30, Cha-ching!"

At that price they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Why can't they give us a midrange price of old kits that we could indulge in without guilt? They'd sell more and we could afford to buy them for what they really are, old, simple kits that have been paid for since the Carter administration.

I wouldn't mind seeing the race version of the Datsun 240Z return, even if only for the American Racing Libre wheels. :)
