Photobucket O' Trash!

Recommended Posts

Wow. Hearing about all the problems you guys are having with PB is weird. I've been on it for years and have never had a problem. I can't believe I've just been lucky all of these years.

O.K. O.K. My opinion, and it has a lot of validity to it. Harry is on a Mac, I'm on Linux. Windoz does an upgrade, applications need to make adjustments. Programmers work days and thus PB has to shut down to make adjustments. Some other applications may shut down in non high traffic hours. BTW, I have zero problems with PB. Nor do I have to run all these programs to detect virus and trojan invasion. Linus is the desktop version of Unix and Mac is a version of Unix.

Excellent. But a LOT of the world still runs TinyLimp and will for quite some time.

Those of us who use the operating-system equivalent of a Chevette with a Vega engine and as much useless trim as a Haitian bus or a Philippine Jeepney have to stick together. :D

And Photoimage.org appears to be gone. Go to the site and it says the domain is for sail.

Oops! My Bad!!! It's Postimage.org. And it's alive and well. Their in fund raising mode and money seems to be coming in at a healthy clip since they announced their issues this AM. Apparently they've been around since 2004 for the specific purpose of hosting images for bulletin boards, forums and e-commerce. Here's a screen image of their home page I just took, and here's the link: https://postimg.org/

Every few months P-bucket seems to have some problems. So far, they've always had them cleared up in a few days.

I haven't seen the logic in transferring hundreds of photos to another site that may have its own issues....and IF you transfer all your photos, everything that's om P-bucket NOW will disappear from all of your earlier posts.

Simply too much hassle for me at this point in time. I'd rather let them get their stuff figured out, as they always do, than reinvent a wheel that only fails occasionally.

I won't be moving or transferring anything.

I have a Photobucket account, a Fotki account, & I keep all of my photos on my hard drive.

If I need to add anything to my Fotki account, it will just come from my hard drive.

I may "try" to use Photobucket on occasion, but I think I'm going to focus my activity on Fotki from now on.

I'm just really tired of dealing with all of Photobucket's issues.

I understand your frustration. Several times this evening, I tried to get on PB to load some pix to update a couple threads. No dice.

It was up again a few minutes ago, but I'm over it for today.

Still, if PB doesn't get any worse than it's been for the last several years, i'll most likely keep on keeping on with it.

I'm just one of those guys who prefers to do business with the devil I know.  :D

I'm not a fan of Photobucket at all........and I have an account!

The worst thing about them on my end are those ads. AdBlocker notwithstanding, the fact that the ads are trying to load, and the blocker software is trying to catch them can make things slow on my PC or laptop. It's gotten to the point when someone posts a link to an album, and I see the Photobucket URL, I click away immediately because of the havoc they wreak.

Fotki is pretty much what I use as I find it to be much more user friendly as far as organizing albums and such, and I've not had a problem with them since they moved their servers.

I will again point out that you get 1 TB with a free Flickr account.

I have PBucket and Flickr, the main problem I have with PBucket is the spam I get from them now.

It's a rare day I don't get at least one email from them trying to sell me some junk with my pictures on it. Sometime I'm going to answer one, "When you can manage to get your website working perfectly for 30 consecutive days, then you can talk to me about selling me something."

Remember when Photobucket was fast, ad-free, and worked? Remember when MTV actually showed music videos and was commercial-free? Yeah. It's like that.

I have a Flickr account as well.

I've just never found Flickr particularly useful for the type of activity that we use photo hosting sites.

I have yet to find an easy way to post a photo from Flickr to a forum like this.

I have posted links and slide shows from Flickr in this forum without any more fuss than doing it from PBucket, it's just a slightly different process.

Inform us of the process.

I monkeyed around for an hour one day trying to figure out how to use it to no avail.

If it's more complicated than "copy & paste", don't bother.

I won't use it. ;)

:D  2 hours later, still working quick and clean. Updated the big ol' deuce thread with a lot of pix, no problemo.   :D

I just got the obligatory "apology" email from them a few minutes ago.

They're even offering a free "photo mouse pad" as a gift for my inconvenience.

Here's an idea for a free gift.

Keep the site working! ;)

I also have been using PB free account for few years, problem-free.  I moved there from Imageshack.us when they killed off their free accounts (and I lost all the photos there - but had a backup).
Today I got an email from PB apologizing for the recent outage due to some problem with a website update.  I am not on PB 7x24 so I didn't even notice a problem.

I do hate their user interface (after the "new and exciting" update few years back). The ads don't bother me (I use AdBlock Plus).  Running Seamonkey Browser (yes, you've read correctly) on Win XP SP3 and Win 7.

This photo was posted (pasted) using the BBCode option which shows up after choosing "share" while viewing photos in Flickr.

Ok, after clicking on the "share" icon, the "share 1 photo to" box pops up with the "BBCode" highlighted & the text highlighted in the box.

Then what?

Doesn't seem to be anything to click on to copy it & when I come back to this forum, I can't paste anything.

If you are on a Windows computer and you have text highlighted, hold down the CTRL key, press the C key the release both keys (this performs the COPY function).

Go to the Forum reply/post window, hold down the CTRL key, press the V key the release both keys (this performs the Paste function).

You can also do these functions on a Windows computer by using the right mouse button to highlight text then choosing the proper function from the menu that appears after you release the right mouse button.

If you are on an Apple computer, I believe the COMMAND and C or V keys do the same functions.

If you remember to have your photo website and this forum open in separate browser windows or tabs, it's very easy to copy/paste between the two browser windows/tabs and allows you to paste multiple items without extra navigation.

Try it now...   ( I usually open Forum threads in a new tab, then when I'm done with a thread, I just close the tab rather than using the back button and I'm back to the main forum thread menu.)

Doesn't seem to be anything to click on to copy it & when I come back to this forum, I can't paste anything.
