James2 Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 May I suggest just removing the lower points first. Then see what you have. Just wondering!
mustang1989 Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Man you are killin' this thing! What great work this is! Can't wait to see this in paint.

My thinking was to have trim that ran from the top points, over the side and down the door, similar to a 56 Ford. But that rounded rear fender really conflicts with almost anything you want to do with added shapes. If you search, even 1:1 customizers seldom embellish extra lines. Thanks for all the comments folks. Edited May 2, 2018 by Lunajammer

Like many Monogram models of that era ('69 Camaro, '57 Nomad), the 53 is so disproportionate it welcomes body mods. The trunk is too long and I considered sectioning that but, nah. A scale 6-inches ready to be cut laterally throughout the car, which includes the interior bucket and engine compartment. Quarter inch tape demarcates well. Just enough room in the back to get away with it. I wanted to do this on a relatively low parts count kit. Fewer parts to cut and fewer headaches over fiddly stuff. The rounded rear fender will be the achilles heal. I'm also not going to try and preserve any side trim. There are one or two places that make sectioning intuitive, like in the interior bucket. The cut will be easy to hide. The deep draw of the lower engine bay also is forgiving of taking out a quarter inch. It seems obvious that whoever created the master for this body never actually saw a real '53 Chevy !
JollySipper Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 I was comparing my unsectioned body to your project........... Gonna have to get a razor saw now! Any progress on this?
Lunajammer Posted May 12, 2018 Author Posted May 12, 2018 Progress, slight. I've added trim and given it its first primer coat. Just haven't taken pics yet. Still some surfacing to be done. Modeling for me is seasonal and as everything is turning green, my summer chores and activities keep me away from the bench. Not much more will likely happen until fall.

NOBLNG Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) Any progress on this one Mike? Your thread helped inspire me to try it on a ‘51. Edited February 1 by NOBLNG
milo1303s Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Cool blast from the past !!! I like where it was going ! 1
Zippi Posted February 1 Posted February 1 All the mods are looking Super nice there Mike. I was just looking at this kit the other day along a 37 Ford Street Rod for my next build. I opted for the 37 Ford. 1
slusher Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I was liking this build, never looked at the date until it said 6years later!
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Missed this one earlier. She looks kinda Chrysler-ish proportion-wise immediately after the section job...

Regrettably, precious little. In primer, with the bodywork hidden, it does get a little more interesting. Your sectioning REALLY looks good on your '51 Bel Air. Proportionally much more compelling in my opinion. 1 hour ago, slusher said: I was liking this build, never looked at the date until it said 6years later! S-s-s-six years?! Geez time speeds up with age. I thought maybe just a couple winters ago. 1 hour ago, Ace-Garageguy said: Missed this one earlier. I still think I could take a quarter inch off that derrière and nobody would miss it. Edited February 1 by Lunajammer 4
