the basic rule of capitalism is sell high, buy low...but some of these guys are just stupid-how many viper kits are gonna sell for 25 bucks-none. the sellers that bug me are those selling one part for 25 bucks or more-they cant be selling much. my solution...I don't buy from gougers.

the other side of the coin: if we saw a 60 Plymouth wagon for 15 bucks(for example) most of us would buy it immediately-how many of us would offer to pay 50 bucks because 15 is too low? probably none.

and how many guys here would buy it for 15 and immediately try to flip it for 50??

You need to learn what the weight and box thresholds are for each shipping company. Use the smallest box that you can safely ship the items in.

I know that there is a big jump at USPS if the box has any dimension over 12".

True, and I talked to a nice woman at the Post Office about that a few years ago while I was shipping eBay packages. She said the USPS used to only charge for shipping by weight.  Then they started charging by weight plus size.

PO Woman told me the most expensive package to ship is one that's big but light.  That's accurate in my experience.  Something like an AMT or Revell triple-kit set in a big box will cost a lot to ship, even though it doesn't weigh very much.

On my recent eBay sale, a buyer on the West Coast (3000 miles from me) won a BIG airplane kit.  He paid $51.50 for the kit and the eBay Shipping Calculator showed the Priority Mail shipping as $56.45, so that's what I charged him.  But at the Post Office, the actual shipping cost was $47.10.  I refunded him the $9.35, as I always do when there's a big difference between the calculated and actual shipping.

BTW, as indicated by that story, the eBay Shipping Calculator is not always reliable, and sometimes goes totally haywire.  So if you see an outrageous shipping cost on your item, message the seller and ask them to double-check it.

We all have to take care of our brothers-right Mark.!!!

You got that right Marty...!   Too many of us have to try to get by on next to nothing for funds makes keeping busy or realizing any of our dreams very tough and sometimes impossible.   I always try to help when I can knowing how things are...just makes everything easier for everyone in the end.

I'm just about as ticked at the $12 to $15 shipping charges that are becoming "the norm". I recently sent 3 kits to people. The cost to ship was $7.95 for one of them and $8 and change for each of the other two. So I KNOW it doesn't cost $12.95 to ship a kit.

My beef exactly. There are some who charge that to ship a car  engine. I got a package with 4 truck engines , a box roughly 4" on all sides from GREECE for $8.

Revell will survive one way or another.   Panic ye  not!

Exactly.  I can't see the new owners looking at all these people waving money at them and not thinking, "Y'know maybe we ought to use some of these moulds we just bought...."

They'll probably cost more, which is annoying, but it's not like Round 2 hasn't been putting the squeeze on us.

Pile-on greed and Ebay Global Shipping have pretty much killed Ebay shopping for me.

I much prefer to buy kits from other modelers or outlets that offer reasonable shipping and sane kit prices.

A lot of Ebay stuff is moonshot-priced..."Well, somewhere out there, someone is probably willing to pay $400 for these dusty 90s Wal Mart kits; I can wait".

I recently scored some glue bombs, parts, and unbuilt kits for $20. And I sadly missed out on a garage sale of $5 MPC muscle car built-ups in '70s boxes...which apparently sell for $80-180 on Ebay depending on condition.  They're out there...it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Rare kits! Unless you leave them in your will to someone who knows their value, they will probably end up in landfill!

Build them and enjoy thsm! Life is too short!

if not cash them in and put the money towards a new tv or something!

I wonder how many have ended up at Goodwill or the landfill".

The irony about rare kits is that they are only perceived to be valuable if in the original boxes and in mint condition. The sad thing about plastic kits is that once started or built they are worth little no matter how well built! Auction houses tend to shun models made from plastic kits unfortunately. Even the big Pocher classics built well fetch  little more at auction than their kits on ebay!

How about the guy on eBay regularly selling his well-built kits for thousands of dollars?  There is a market out there for everything.
