Living someplace where the sidewalks are rolled up at sundown, or which would require driving miles to get something as mundane as a gallon of milk, ain't my church. Heh, that's chump change around here. According to the NYC Dept. of Taxation & Finance, $50-100K qualifies as the bottom end of low middle income. $170-200K barely puts one in the middle class bracket. Everything is expensive. One has to be either extremely wealthy or dirt poor to get along here. The middle class working slob is stuck in the middle, screwed out of every available dime that the alphabet agencies can pull out of his pockets. That said, I wouldn't trade places with anyone living in comfortable, cozy Culdesacia. In the past, I've looked into moving to LA, the SF Bay area, or Seattle as I love those those areas and the tech job market is great there. But the real estate costs relative to the salaries is insane. If I were still 25, I'd be happy w/ a 500 sq ft apt or condo..but approaching 50, I like my wooded lot and 2500+sq ft house in the Cleveland suburbs, and can live well on $150k/yr here and have a lot of medium-big city amenities close by. In the past, I've lived in rural areas, small towns, a resort town, a couple of college towns, in relatively big cities (Denver and Phoenix) and the suburbs, but where I'm at now works for me. People are crazy! Yeah, I wouldn't do that. I'll get $20 worth of tickets when it's big, but otherwise don't bother...not much of a gambler.
Deuces Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 The most I spend is 10.00 bucks.... That's my limit..... ??

Yea, that's a fool's errand. $20 or $2,000 worth of tickets doesn't really increase the probability of winning in any significant way. As I said in an earlier post, play and have fun with it. A few bucks for a chance to dream is not a waste for most people. I buy a couple of tickets on every drawing(Yea, I give up a cup of starbucks to do that) and don't change that because the jackpot is huge. For me it is a little entertainment twice a week. The odds I like are 1 in 300,000,000 if I play. Zero if I don't. Viewed from another perspective 10 times a year in powerball in California there are lottery payouts of over $1,000,000. The odds for someone winning is very high. It's fun and I keep it that way. Edited October 23, 2018 by Pete J.
Joe Handley Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 I may drop another $5.00 after work tonight, that's more than enough.
webestang Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Bought 2 tickets on the way to work, you never know.
NYLIBUD Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 A while back at one of my jobs,we all had a pool in my office.I think about 10 of us played.I decided a year later to find another job.But of course me being a pessimist,I was afraid that they would win once I left the job.I would've probably cried like a baby LOL..I still talk to a few people I worked with, who are still working at the office. And was told that they never did win any jackpots at all to this day,and that was about five years ago.Well I hope I win this jackpot.

I used to work in an office where the department played. Back then I was driving my grandfather's Crown Vic with 200,000 miles on it to work. The clear coat was coming off the upper surfaces and people would kid me about it. But the car was rock solid and 100% dependable. I car pooled with a guy who bought a 2 year old Volvo. Whenever it broke down he'd call me for help and he said he hated that seeing that Vic effortlessly coming to save his Volvo ass. So one day we were sitting around the lunch table and the lottery was especially high. We went around the table and people told what they'd do if we won. Most everyone would quit their jobs and buy an island somewhere. When it got to me, I simply responded, "I'd get the Crown Vic painted." Everyone laughed! But ya know, it wouldn't have been that far off for me.

I was at a NASCAR-sanctioned short track years ago, and they decided to run the Late Model Stocks clockwise for one heat. The track management claimed there was no rule that said they HAVE to run CCW, so they turned the starting grid around on the spot, and ran a race clockwise that counted for points/qualifying. It was pretty amazing. They didn't handle so well (lots of tire smoke from the RR tire, and way out of shape) and a bit slower, but no serious problems.
Tom Geiger Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Hey, the winner's demographic as being from a small town in South Carolina makes my point that it could happen to anyone! This guy is still in shock. I'm picturing some guy in a chamo baseball cap, week or twos worth of stubble... we probably will never know since SC is one of the states where you don't have to reveal your identity. But in a small town when someone starts spending big money....

But in a small town when someone starts spending big money.... The winner will quietly move an hour away in a nice house but not 10,00 square feet. They can just say they did well investments and just live like the neighbors and not outspend them. Of course they would get the best security system nad maybe even have someone watch the house while they are away.
