I Finally finished this one to my liking. Paint is Testors Gloss Black enamel. had a good time doing this build and I learned a lot.  Thought I would share some  quick pics. Thanks for looking and thanks to all the great builders on this forum who always help with questions I inevitably have.

P.S. the fender skirts on this one were a real PITA! Haha

It's nice to see a '49 Merc the way it looked from the factory on occasion.

Nice work John!

I'm guessing that your issue with the skirts has something to do with the rear wheels sticking out too far.

My solution would be to either shorten the wheel backs or the rear axle itself to draw the wheels in a bit.

Another tip worth trying to avoid any problems with gluing on the skirts is to apply them with a piece of standard masking tape on the inside of the body.

This will not only eliminate any chance of getting glue where it will be seen, but will also make it a simple operation to remove the skirts later on if you should decide.

I used tape to install the skirts on my '62 Ford.

ohhhh....my alltime favorite model near the amazing 58 Impala.  I like the 49 Mercury since i built it as a kid.

Your's looking beautiful. Stock, clean, shiny! Like it!

Thanks everyone for the great comments on the Mercury. This is a fantastic forum, I learn so much here. Modelers are a great bunch of people and I’ve never felt so welcome than on this forum.

Yes the biggest problem on this build was the fender skirts. Thanks StevenGuthmiller for the suggestion on shorteneing the axel and also on the masking tape trick. I’m going to do it as it was the one thing that was really bothering me, it just doesn’t look right.  John
