A number of modelers wanted to see the MPC '68 Coronet reissued in plastic, however I really don't think that's going to ever happen. Modelhaus did offer the '68 Coronet R/T for a long time in resin but builders wanted it in plastic and it's a really nice kit, so now we have nothing. Hmmmm?

YES..!  Please...!!!

Jimmy Flintstone offers a resin body with the fenders already mounted. He  includes the hood, bumpers, head lights and clear red taillights. The grill is molded into the body. The casting I bought has very sharp fine details and no flashing at all. This is based on using the AMT Nova SS kit that is even on the shelves at HL now.

I think if Round 2 could have found that MPC '68 Coronet body and put it out (even as a funny car), they would have by now. I think either the '68 or the '69 was announced by Round 2 about 10 years back, but nothing more came of it. It would be the closest thing to pure gold they could sell at this point! I believe that the '68 body became the '69 and then the '70 Super Bee body, each of these bodies having the same error where the fenders meet the cowl (no break lines), so unless they revise that '70 body heavily, Round 2 won't be doing a '68 any time soon.

I have said this before, and I will keep saying it: Revell should revisit the 1/10 master for their '69 Super Bee kit, and engineer a new '68 Super Bee in 1/25 from that body master. The proportions on their '69 are very good, I know of no sources whatsoever for a '68 'Bee in scale, and I think the sales would justify the effort.

With a new '68 Coronet tool, they could do Super Bee coupe, R/T hardtop and convertible variants (maybe a 500 Convertible?), so you'd have to buy them all in order to get all of the hood and trim configurations you want (flat hood, bulge hood, Ramcharger, maybe a Six Pack hood, hubcaps, Magnum 500 wheels, full wheelcovers, 383/440 and Hemi engines). That does seem to have been Revell's M.O. until they were sold.

The questions now are: 1) are the new owners of Revell interested in such a project and 2) do they have the 1/10 master or drawings they need in order to do it?

I would highly doubt that the new owners of Revell would be up for a project like that, however it is just my opinion. Hopefully someday I will get to build my Modelhaus '68 Coronet R/T kit or sell it, we'll see?

Bback in the 1990s, I developed a friendship with Ray Parsons of R&R Resin fame. Somehow I was able to get some decent resin pieces from him. In my stash I have both the 68 Coronet R/T and Charger R/T transmits from him, which I adapted the chassis and driveline from the AMT 68 Roadrunner/69 GTX, which I bought up when they were 5.00 kits. I have yet to complete either one, but I am thankful I have both, even though I would welcome a new tool 68-9 Coronet.

Yeah, I need to finish mine. A few years ago, I bought a Modelhaus '68 Coronet that was already painted and came w/ an AMT '68 Road Runner chassis and engine, just never assembled.   I also have rebuildable MPC '68 and '69 Coronet ht and convertible kits, an R&R '68 Coronet, R&R '69 Coronet, R&R '69 Coronet wagon also in resin..

IMHO, a project like this would be a better fit for Moebius these days, for all the reasons you state.

I would bet that the wood masters for the Monogram 1/24th Super Bee were discarded decades ago.

Obviously, I'd love to see a 1968 Coronet R/T and /or SuperBee as well, and I also agree that it is one of the more obvious holes right now in the model company kit coverage of the first muscle car era.  TIM

True- Moebius could rock this one.

Wish I would get off my butt and build a few Mopar kits for awhile. Although I like most all cars, I do lean toward Mopars.

I just love dem Mopars, and sometimes wonder why I build other makes? I have a a Pontiac, a Ford, and three Chevy kits started along with four Mopar kits started and I'm in a building slump right now also. I'm also trying to get my grandson into car modeling as he finished his first snap kit on the 11th of this month and I need to take him to the hobby shop soon so that he can pick out his next snap kit.

That’s great news and bond with your grandson. I work on a proshop kit when I get in a slump and it helps. I have an AMT Proshop Duster I am working on...

Sorry to say, but I may have to work on pre-painted kits as I recently had a lung collapse and don't know if I'll be able to spray paint at all anymore, we'll see?

I beleive we will see a reissue of the 68 Coronet R/T sooner or later.  As stated in a previous response,  this is one of those very obvious holes that needs to be filled by either Round 2 or maybe Moebius.  Round 2 has this kit in their archives.  Think about the different versions of this kit that can be done:  a stock car (#99 Paul Goldsmith car),  Dick Landy drag car, convertible and a  hardtop.  I remember about ten years ago Round 2 announced they were going to release the 68 Coronet R/T kit.  We were very excited about this news.  Even the model kit retailers listed this as a future release.  However,  it was cancelled.  Lots of modelers were disappointed.  This happened again back in the late 90's when Round 2 anounced the release of the 69 Coronet R/T kit.  It even was pictured.  But, that too was cancelled.  What we all need to do is contact Round 2 and Moebius and request they do a 68 Coronet R/T kit.  The more people contact the kit manufactures , the more they will listen.  This could even be done as a limited run of about 10,000 kits .    For example , the Model King (Dave Burkett) has done these ventures.

No, I don't believe they do still exist. They would have been updated yearly until '70, which was the end of the line for the Coronet kits.

Yes, they were release announcements but they were apparently either testing the waters or based on mis-labled moulds, depending who you talked to.

And, as others have said, obviously if they were out there they would have been reissued already. No one would have left an sure money maker like that in storage.

I should have clarified.  I never saw a photo of the tooling.  The photo I saw was a room full of kits.  You could see each and every subject in the archives. As far as tooling; yes, tooling was probably modified from year to year.  The archived kids could be a starting point for Round 2 if they ever decide to retool the 68 Coronet R/T.

They can retool every kit ever once released by Amt/Mpc/Ertl/Lindberg/Imc, by copy paste, but then you end up with a brand new old tech kit, IMHO the big question is the market waiting for this or is it more demanding in terms of detail.

Judging by some of their recent offerings, Round2 figures their market isn't that demanding.  It's more about reliving their childhood than creating a detailed model.
