Can-Con Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Still working on my new model room so I'm doing another re-post. Built this back in 2011. AMT Impala kit stretched a bit and the bed from the AMT '68 elCamino added. Rear bumper is the elCamino piece modified to look like an Impala wagon bumper. I also reworked the top of the doors to re-arrange the character line so it flows with the rest of the lines better. The back of the rear 1/4 panels were also brought up to look more like the station wagon 1/4s. I thought I'd do the interior in the factory gold color but I didn't like it when it was done. I should have went with tan or burgundy instead. Wheels and tires are from an AMT '70 Chevelle SS kit. This gives you an idea of the bodywork gone into making this look "factory stock".
StevenGuthmiller Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Very nicely done Steve. I see these Camino phantoms occasionally and they rarely look right. I think stretching the rear end is the key. Most look short and strange in the back end. Nice work! Steve
bbowser Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Now that is something the factory should have done. Great model!
TooOld Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 I was skeptical reading your description but seeing the first photo changed my mind . The work you've done getting the proportions correct really paid off , great job !
Snake45 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Different and therefore interesting! Well done and model on!
58 Impala Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Absolutely stunning build. I love Impalas, Chevrolet should have done something like that.
shoopdog Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Great craftsmanship, turned out spectacular!
DumpyDan Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Great work, that is an impressive build, looks like it should look.

bisc63 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Agree that many try to make "Faux Caminos", but few do it well. This is as nice as as they come; very believable and rather handsome! I would love to have seen a black interior and black vinyl on this! Do another one!
Geno Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 GM shoulda built 'em. That is way cool Steve. Great job.
espo Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Great body work, I'm glad you showed the picture of your body slicing. This body style , to my eye, looks better as an El Camino than a hardtop.
Koellefornia Kid Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Wow, that´s a very nice and believable conversion! And the color suits it very well!
Dragonhawk1066 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Very well done. I really like seeing these what-if cars and yours is one of the best.
Scalper Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Sweet,,, looks really good with that front end
